I've switched back and forth with my focuses but I think one reason can be you don't have to do any interaction on cam with members. Sometimes I like just zoning out and filming -keeping to myself if I'm feeling super antisocial

It's less draining to me. I don't have to be social/interact with anyone. Plus I can film anything and film whenever I want (don't have to worry about "when's the best time to cam")

Money. It's easier for me to film whenever I like and pop a clip up and make money from that then dealing with a room full of people who will never tip me.

Time is money. I do not have to sit for however long in an online room waiting for someone to be enticed enough to tip me or take me private. I can instead spend less time making a clip that will sell and is worth more to me. No teasing involved. I found teasing exhausting.

I don't have to bargain or make deals. I don't have to negotiate with cheap asses who constantly try to get the world for 10 tokens. They will either buy a clip or not and I don't have to deal with them hemming and hawing away. If they try that shit for customs in emails I can just ignore.

I can also mess up in clips and it's not a big deal. I just redo it. Whereas live I can't do that. No redos and sometimes mess ups can be boner killers. I don't wanna mess up boners.

You're often expected to change at the drop of a hat into characters and I need more time to do that realistically. I'm not someone who can pop into characters at the drop of a hat basically. This is easier for cammers who have distinct personalities of course but I was more open to playing the field with them. I just can't be a dom one second though and a sub the next second that quick. With clips I have time to prep, dress the part, mentally prepare, and then just film. Much easier for me and I'm better at it that way.

One of the main advantages of video is that it becomes an annuity stream and produces income over time without your doing any new work to support the future income.

One thing I am curious about is how does the income for a new video divide over time? How much of the revenue comes in the first 90 days? The first year? Year two, three, four, etc?

For me, it was time management. I left MFC when I had my 1st child because I thought I was too tired to compete there. (Looking back, I didn't know from tired at that point ). MFC was so all over the place $ wise and Streamate was a reliable $/hour. I only cammed when my babies were sleeping. So, being able to know that if I gave up sleep, I'd make money was worth it. At some point, Streamate started to fail for me. With clips, any time I put in pays off. I have so little time to put in that I need that. I'd like to be able to supplement with a cam site, but clips are so much simpler for me at this point.

The first 36 hours are when a video sells the most. After that usually they will only sell a handful more times. The first 3 days are when it's going to either sell a lot of be worthless pretty much. People can and do buy older clips, but less in comparison to the first days it's live. I can only speak for C4S though as I'm not on other sites. I cater to fetishes there exclusively.

@Teagan for me, that would be false. My videos never start selling until days later :haha:

But what is the pattern you see over time? And which systems are you distributing through? Maybe the difference in sell through is tied to how the distributor advertises products?

I've only been a clip maker for a couple months so I can't give you "over time" information

I have the end goal of doing mainly clips for income by the end of the year. I have a school aged child, I go to a lot of festivals and camping trips, and I have a lot of fun making clips. It will fit into my life better. Plus I feel like my clip making now from when I started has gotten so much better. I'm sure that with a bit more work I can make them even better. I also love editing. I really wanna invest in some fun outfits and a green screen. I've also started writing scripts so I can make longer, smoother videos and that's even been fun.

It really depends on what categories you go for. If you put clips in categories that are already saturated and you don't have something different to offer, your clip might not sell more than once or twice. But, if you have unique attributes to put out there, especially in a smaller niche, they'll just keep selling. The more you put clips in one category, the more clip regs you pick up. The great thing about clips is that once you have a whole catalog, someone who buys a new clip and digs it will usually come back through and pick up the old ones too. It's not something you can completely leave alone and keep making the same money, but the money does keep trickling.

It was like that for me at first too. After I was more established and trusted in categories though it changed. Once members took that first chance to buy from me, and liked what they saw, they felt more comfortable buying straight away when I would upload instead of waiting. A lot of the buyers, though not all, like regular uploads from their favs and stay away from newbies. They don't want to get attached and have you bolt basically. If you stick around and show you are serious sales change after a bit. It's why when new clip makers struggle it's always said to them to keep at it and keep uploading. Just like on MFC guys like routine and being regular and you build on that.

I've had issues involving my faulty wiring in the walls of my old apartment making it impossible for me to cam, and I've had times where due to health reasons I couldn't cam (but I could say film a short clip.)

Most of the time you don't get many offline tips if you aren't on cam. Even when you are it isn't likely. Clips however tend to be able to sell at any time of day including when the model's asleep.

Either way it's a good investment to put some effort into clip stores.

Consistent money, less stress.

I'll post a new clip in a category, and some goober will buy all the old ones. WHY?

I've been doing clips for 4 years and have yet to see a pattern. For some people, there just isn't one.

I make more money

More creative freedom

I get to make artistic, visual stunning stuff

I love filming

Way LESS interaction// less members that are asshats (most clip guys are super amazing)

I now am hiring models and producing for the last 2 years - which means more $$

I make money on videos I made YEARS ago

I get to work and collaborate with badass woman and create amazing content.

Literally all the time :haha:

And for me it depends on the category too I guess. Like the majority of my videos don't sell until at least days later, but I had one video start selling like an hour after I posted it and it continued to sell constantly for a week straight. Issa gamble. And I've been selling a lot of old videos this week too

Have any of you had any problems with the tube sites stealing your content? I guess you could fight against that by distributing lower quality versions of your stuff as promotional on the tubes, and then point back to your site for the high quality version.

For the stuff you produce, do models make similar rates to what porn actresses get? I have heard day shoots can run $500 to $1500/day depending on what is being done and how well known the model is.

I had my mind blown recently when some porn actress said few porn actresses make money from porn. Most of them view the porn as a way to get famous, and they make their money from other products.

I don't make porn (not that there is anything wrong with this; its just not what I do)- I make clips on clips4sale and I mostly content trade with other girls. When I hire ladies they are normally college students or girls just getting in so I pay them a fair rate. I produce fetish content and femdom content- I don't make vanilla content it doesn't sell for me and I am a fetish model and it just shows in my clips. As far as tube sites I have a DMCA company and do not have many issues since they handle everything. I also search myself and will file stuff on my own as well. I don't normally have to do this since I pay someone.

I'm not going to tell you how much I make but I'm pretty successful and I live very very comfortably in one of the most expensive states in the USA.

I would never ask what you make. Sorry if that even sounded like I was asking that. I was asking - for *producers* of fetish content - what is your typical cost on a day shoot for a model? I am just curious if the models that are hired on a fixed fee basis are making about the same rate as similar kinds of work pays.

I don't hire models for the day. I pay them per hour and normally hire them for an hour of nude work and an hour of non nude. I get about 10 clips which is perfect and I am super happy with. I don't shoot hardcore or masturbation so it depends on what they are doing for pricing. I pay industry standard rate for amateur models but again it depends on the shoot so its hard to say an exact pricing.

I can carefully say, that models may also wish to have passive income when they're not online. Just like every other mainstream online merchant. This allows them to produce unique content that can be sold in unique market places, without loosing bounced traffic. For instance, imagine yourself working so hard on funneling traffic to a chat room, and the visitors find out that you are not online, and this is just one example.
It's a blessed diversity in my humble and limited opinion as a payment representative. *This is coming from a general freelance perspective, because I am not versed in the dynamics of what happens in the video market places themselves.

Clip making proved to be a much more profitable enterprise for me, and I get to be way more creative than I can during shows. Clips are rarely boring because there are so many different fetishes to explore, while doing your sixth cum show in one day can get pretty repetitive. I don't have to try to hustle freeloaders or answer a ton of silly questions (though a few will find their way to my inbox). I can film for three days and have enough clips for a month - and spend the rest of my time editing, doing admin work, or writing (my main hobby). I have a lot more freedom - I can pick up and leave for a week or two at a time, and my income won't suffer because I've prepared everything ahead of time. With regular camming, taking that long away from your work can be pretty hard to recover from sometimes. I can spend a lot more time with my loved ones because I don't have to organize my day based on when my regulars will be online - I can film whenever I want, and sit around in PJs and edit.

Plus, it's super fun to make money while you're sleeping, to wake up and realize you've already made your goal for the day and you haven't even had your coffee yet! ^_^

This is not my experience either with C4S. I have clips that still sell, years after posting. I usually get a few sales (like 2 -10) in the first few days then over time, I'll get more as time goes on. Especially when i post to a catagory i already have a lot of clips in.

Oh I definitely get sales after that time but the bulk of them happen pretty quick for me. Guys will go back in the catalog to look for more always though.

Are you sending out a notification to your existing customer list, maybe by a mailing list or by Twitter? It might be that you do an efficient job of marketing to a strong customer base, so you get a strong surge in sales up front.
