Am I the only one who sees the similarities here? The reason I am almost exclusively interested in MFC as the site I want to cam from is because of the way I view it as a social, brand building platform similar to YouTube.

I’ve been thinking of this for awhile now but I was just watching a video someone I am subscribed to uploaded and a lot of the language used about how to even get started on YouTube and what you need to do to stand out is SO similar to the advice for newbie threads on here. I love the sex work industry but I have been absolutely enamoured with the personality aspect of building a brand around yourself since the dawn of YouTubers so when I first discovered MFC and it’s general “climate” I knew that’s what I wanted to do.

I honestly believe it may be beneficial for more new girls to come at it with the same mindset. The YouTube climate now is very over saturated with a lot of people making identical content, people making absurd content just to try and get noticed for a while as well as a “recommended” sorting algorithm that is generally not enjoyed by the community and makes it very hard for new creators to flourish. YouTubers will tell you over and over that if you don’t genuinely enjoy creating content and are just looking for a get rich quick scheme that you will not have much long term success. The only way to make it now is to get into because you love it and just work and work and work and sloowwwlllyyy build up an audience through consistency and quality content with a personality people resonate with.

That sounds exactly like everything I’ve seen seasoned models say about MFC in recent years.

I’m sorry this is so rambly I’m just curious if anyone else has given this a thought and if you haven’t before, what do you think?

YouTube pays per view while MFC is tip based. YouTube’s algorithm favors bland content while MFC’s algorithm is average tokens per hour on a 60 day period against the site’s average. This makes it so people on YouTube end up eating tide pods while MFC models please their whales.

Hmm maybe I wasn’t clear in what I was saying? I wasn’t comparing them one to one by any means whatsoever. The only comparison I was trying to draw were the exact things I listed, the vague general sentiments towards vague general similarities. I know when you get into the nitty gritty they are obviously VERY different platforms that operate differently. Also the tide pod comment kinda leads me to believe (and obviously correct me if I’m mistaken!) that you might not be really in the YouTube space? The tide pod video trends of the YouTube world (which... wasn’t a YouTube thing at all but I am operating under your example) are the equivalent of the crazy trends from back in the day that I’ve seen looking through the silly models screencaps thread. I think a more accurate comparison to draw (since the tide pod thing wasn’t a YouTube trend) would be the fake prank trend that happened on YouTube a few years ago to the fake pizza delivery men of MFC many moons ago. Obviously yes, when you break it down into semantics there will also be differences between the two scenarios but as I said I really am just trying to make a very general comparison.

IDK maybe my opinion on this should’ve just been an interesting thought I pondered to myself, I enjoy finding and analyzing patterns all around me and maybe that is something I should just keep in my own head :sweating:

With regard to the idea that you shouldn't expect to be rolling in dough on either site without putting in tons of (perhaps unpaid) time and effort first, and should have other means of supporting yourself while you try to get it off the ground: Yes, they are similar. No one should get started in either industry expecting to shoot to the top overnight, and should be aware that they might never be "successful," depending on what their personal definition of success is.

I apologize if this thread was ill conceived and is being interpreted as a diss to how I view MFC, and the models who perform there. I thought I made it relatively clear that I absolutely revere MFC for the personality driven, social aspect of the site and that I would never say anything to it’s detriment and that I think the work ethic and talent involved on the models parts is absolutely astounding.

Please delete this post if I came across insenstively or as if I was trying to insult the models on MFC whatsoever, that was not my intent and I apologize.

Yes this is really all I was trying to get at! I figured since most new models are fairly young that this comparison might be something they have more personal experience and exposure to that they can grasp more easily so they can break the mindset that if they sign up for MFC (or any site to be fair but the social aspect was a factor in my comparison) and work for an hour they’ll walk away with hundreds without putting much effort in.

Hey nobody is being mean to you or invalidating your opinions, we are simply exchanging ideas... I do think the way a site orders their content is KEY in the culture it develops and how important creativity or even being constant is. Think about how different MFC and CB are and they are both camsites with a token based system! The difference lies simply in what they give priority to in terms of visibility and functionality.

As of whether I am familiar with YouTube, I am, I was a content creator making daily blogs for a couple of months in 2015 and then I stopped but I am trying to start again with a different type of content. I understand the ice bucket challenges are not the bread and butter or most creators but I was trying to explain how every person is trying to make their way into the trending section and the recommended vídeos through making viral content with little substance simply because that is what is deemed safe and worthy of promotion by YT, which creators need because it pays per view, content creators that focus on discussing controversial topics are demonetized so it penalizes differing opinions. On MFC models need to hook people who tip them high if they want a high camscore and viewership takes a backseat to pleasing said high tippers, which changes the dynamic entirely.

Hey nobody is being mean to you or invalidating your opinions

I don’t think anyone’s being mean or invalidating my opinions, your reply and seeming disdain for the quality of content on YouTube had me genuinely concerned that I had inadvertently insulted all of the models on the forum by comparing them to the morons eating tide pods. I wanted to make sure it was completely clear that was not my intent and if my true intent was still unclear to simply remove the post. If a thought I share comes across as genuinely rude and inconsiderate to a large group of people I would prefer to have that thought removed from the public space because I am really not here to offend, demean or diminish the work anyone puts into being a model! I am still going to hold my opinions; my thoughts and feelings aren’t so fragile that the discussion (that I asked for) would make me feel “invalid”.

Clearly I just misinterpreted the tone of your reply as to indicate offense being taken from my post!

It's really hard to read tone on the internet, I think we have all fallen victim to assigning it on our own where there might be none at one point or another. Don't stress! @LaylaRae
remove the post
I did also want to mention that here on the forum, you only have a short window of time (15 minutes) to edit or delete anything you post--unless it has been read, then you may only edit. After that, it's there forever, with few exceptions. You can read more about that here, scroll down to the fourth section. Other important forum stuff is mentioned in that thread as well.

MFC made me a beggar sometimes and I put social pressure on guys to give me money. When you look at room topics around the 15th and the end of the month, you will see what I mean. Room topics are full of "xy tokens needed, help me guys" and I'm sure many pms will deal about it too. This is something you don't see so often on other camsites. On chaturbate a non tipper is still helpful for site placement, on mfc he is a waste of time. From a money point of view social pressure will work however, who says no to his favorite girl?

your reply and seeming disdain for the quality of content on YouTube

Don't read things that arent there, it was just a joke, I was not commenting on the content quality on Youtube as a whole or saying that you were disparaging MFC models by comparing them to Youtubers ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

YouTube is the MFC of Sugaring... sympathy style of interactive porn.

It kinda seemed that way to me, it came across a little "how dare you"

Except that youtube screws most people over when they try to monetize while MFC pays what you've earned. :haha:
I'd say Chaturbate is more the youtube. Ban happy, full of rules, tons of "fans" and not, necessarily a payout unless you really know what you're doing and also have a bit of luck.

That's a bit of a mismatched argument. If models where using 'borrowed' content to the extent of the average youtuber does it would appear no different on MFC. If a model was on MFC 'reacting' to other models on the site in her room I'm pretty sure shit would hit the fan quick. The rules that get broken on youtube are the same as MFC if they weren't models wouldn't be using MFC. I've never seen a camsite model support a 'fair use' argument when it comes to their own work.

It wasn't a super thought out statement. Just a flippant, cheeky comment. My experience with Youtube is that they are ban-happy. My husband has had his music removed several times for being infringement (or whatever they call it) even though he holds the rights to it. He's not a famed musician. Just a working/publishing one. There's no reason for his work to set up flags. They also took de$$$ed his account when one of his videos received a great deal of views in a day. The way they flag things is counterproductive to creators. So, yeah, Chaturbate more than MFC. Standing by it. Hehehe.

When I read the title I thought it might be a diss post (YouTube is currently in a total state of shit and people hate it lol) but once I read the content of the post I understood your comparison.

I agree with your comparison. The two main sites I browse in my down time are youtube and MFC. Although mfc is more fun because I can actually interact with the person and tip her :D

Yeah unfortunately the only time YouTube can feel sorta similar is if someone is doing a live stream, but I actually really love that live stream tips on YouTube stay at the top of the chat so people can more easily respond to whatever is written in the tip note without it getting lost in the chat!

I would compare youtube to pornhub.
And MFC to Twitch.

But if we're talking Twitch, I would compare it to CB. Just because CB lets people stream regardless of gender.

It's also kind of interesting how cam sites are starting to catch up with streaming sites. I'm talking about OBS, better video resolutions, Tip overlays, subscribing.

Who knows, maybe next they'll start offering safe to stream music as a service for models, sticker packs, voting. Or maybe give models a way to make money through advertising.

The future is here, Streamate has their own library for performers to use on-stream and in recorded uploads for sale on their site.

And MFC to Twitch.

I probably would’ve mentioned this but I honestly didn’t think many people would be aware of Twitch, but I am really out of the loop in terms of how mainstream it’s becoming! I also have literally never been on the site so I don’t know about the experience on there hands-on :p

Free income for no benefit to the person paying... YouTube outdoes MFC any day of the week for girls selling the same thing.

That's not what it means at all.

@dark_mermaid sugaring means being a sugar baby, a mutually beneficial arrangement in which a (usually old/older) rich man pays a woman (usually early-mid 20's) for time/companionship/sex, kind of a paid-for trophy girlfriend.

Twitch is huge. Beyond that, many cam performers also stream on Twitch. I'd say we (the online adult entertainment community, and this forum in particular) are generally pretty aware of streaming platforms and content sites, as it's wise to keep an eye on potential developments that we might be able to use ourselves.

If you think about how Youtube started and how Mfc started, and how the two have now changed, the op kinda makes sense. Both are now over saturated with performers, many of whom just appeal to trends. Youtubers are pouring ice on themselves and cam girls are sitting around with a pink toy that hardly ever even works sticking out of their puss. But those ones don't really stand out. The ones that stand out either combined the gimmicks with having a personality, and other things of value, or just stick to their guns and take the long hard route of building a presence solely on their own thing, which may or may not ever work out.

There does seem to be some similarity between to youtube and MFC. I mean both platforms are primarily made up of entertainers. And it's usually about being able to come off as genuine, like able, while also being entertaining.

I don't know if the youtube revolution has really made it to pornhub. I mean sure any one can upload porn. And there are probable people making decent money off the platform. But I don't know if there is a PewDiePie of YouTube, Ninja of Twitch, or Ambers of MFC.

I mean a real personality, Some one making Videos on Pornhub around their personality, sharing moments, making people feel like they're hanging out with a dirty friend. Some thing that feels authentic, and relatable.

Well done on getting this; others here completely missed the point. Being a sugar baby is amateur hour compared to 'sympathy' porn (not to be confused with sympathy fuck porn); the Trad/ Cons tend to do best at this and can do it for far longer than a sugar baby. They are just starting to get into tokens and clicks (fast views) like porn does so that the income can come to them faster.

Sugaring is not mutually beneficial; this is a sugar baby myth....but other than that, close enough description.
