Hey all! I'm starting to teach myself to code, and am looking to purchase a domain for myself to practice on and eventually use as a functional site for cam business. I was wondering if anyone has experience with this - I imagine Amber would with Ambercutie itself, hehe.
I came across this website, which looks quite promising - https://njal.la/ - but would love to know what options are out there and hear about other peoples experiences!
Cheers everyone ^_^

You won't need a real domain to practice on -- you can host a website on your own laptop by using the address http://127.0.0.1/ or http://localhost/

When you're ready to publish for other users, look for a service that will do domain registration and cloud hosting as a combined service. Amazon's AWS services are probably more powerful than you need, but fit this bill perfectly.

I like keeping my domains and hosting separate and recommend the same when I work with clients.

As mentioned above, Namecheap is strong domain registrar and their free first year Whoisguard is an added bonus. Their product portal is efficient to use and their support is top quality if you ever have an issue. I have 20 domains registered personally with them as of right now.

In regards to web hosting, if you wanted to keep everything with one provider, Namecheap's web service is very reliable. The upkeep is at 99.9% consistently and have good security. If you don't mind going separate, I would recommend a2hosting for your web service. The upkeep is also at 99.9% consistently, have stronger security and the overall response time of support is stronger.

You need a domain name registrar with a "Whois Privacy Service". As I am hosting a few websites myself I have the domain registration and web hosting separate, too. But if you only have one website it will be probably easier if you get everything from one service provider.

On the other hand if you just need a domain that will link to your web cam profile (or Twitter / Instagram / any other social media profile) you don't need extra web hosting, just go for a domain name registrar. There are quite a view so it took me some time to do the research when I needed to register my new domain recently.

Namecheap: is still good and trustworthy and seems like quite a view ACF members are using them
Porkbun: quite new and great customer support, I personally preferred them and I'm happy with my choice
Google Domains: seems to be a good option as well
GoDaddy: definitely avoid please - they don't have good reviews

Noticed you registered your domain (jessebangs.com) with namecheap. Congrats. That's the registrar that I was going to recommend. Not sure if you know this but NameCheap last month decided they'd give free WhoIs guard protection to every new domain registered with them. Free for life. Here's the article they wrote about it: https://www.namecheap.com/blog/free-whoisguard-forever/ - So you've got nothing to worry about when it comes to your domains from now on. :)

If I may ask you a quick question: You said you're learning to code, my question is, what type of website do you hope to create?
