So I log on to Chaturbate today and an anime/hentai broadcaster is in the top 3 list. Begs the question of wth they verified. Different strokes for different folks I guess. But, given that Chaturbate has become a "bot" site I'll tip my favorite broadcasters in Amazon gift-cards rather than tokens until their management can fix their image.

For me the point is who has access to broadcast this way. You have to be educated, tech savvy, with access to appropriate technologies (good bandwidth, computers, etc). It is not about the threat of the digital but more about gentrification, if you ask me. The people that built the space get excluded.

How is this even gentrification? There will always be a need/desire for real people.

Mom and pop shops being replaced by super store chains.
Communities being priced out of their own neighborhoods.

I could see how people could have similar concerns about technology taking away jobs.
Or job being corporatized, and their wages being driven down.

But i'm not sure if this is this is the same thing, I mean any one can run VRChat. But does requires a gaming computer, and vr headset.

I know what gentrification is. But, there is no comparison. Like any job, they evolve. There are many jobs that existed 100 years ago which have been replaced by better methods, or outdated and disappeared. Usually those workers either retired, or learned a new skill.

Also, gentrification is not necessarily a bad thing. It's part of the lifecycle of a community.

Well, we can disagree here. Evolution is, in my opinion, very different from exclusion. Gentrification is a problem bc the people that lived there, the people that gave that special vibe to the area, can't longer afford doing so. In the case of camming, true, real people will always have space. What I find not only problematic but simply bad is when people jump in the wagon where things are already settled with more resources and clear advantages. And it's that old thing that it is ok for women doing cheap labor but when it is real money, men take that place: the difference between a person that cooks (generally a woman) and a chef (a man), a person who sews and a fashion designer, etc etc

How is a virtual cammer causing exclusion when there's already male cammers? Women outrank men both in numbers AND income when it comes to sex work. This is more of an evolution, moving from animated cartoons, comics, games to streaming. I serious doubt this will take a significant amount of money away from a real woman cammer. This is filling a niche market.

People only focus on the potential negative aspects of gentrification. What about the flip side of turning a run down, crime ridden area into a nicer community? Also, no one seems to think of evolution of cities. I've known more than a few people who have had to move from their homes because in the 10, 15, 20 years they owned it it went from a quiet neighborhood to increased crime, murder, etc. So, not only are they losing their "special vibe" of a neighborhood and community, they are also taking a hit on property values. Again, it's the lifecycle of populated areas.

What I find not only problematic but simply bad is when people jump in the wagon where things are already settled with more resources and clear advantages
This is called business and marketing economics. Men are not solely responsible for this, as women have done it too.

You said you came here wanting to study sex workers for a student project as I recall? Perhaps you need to not have such a biased view when doing your research, as it may very well skew your outcome. Don't know where you're from (nor do I really care). But, if you're only familiar with studios, then you should look at the number of women and men who are independent as well. Compare the numbers of all aspects of camming, again without bias.

Not sure what ignited this. I will check my biases, maybe you can check yours as well

I think it's HILARIOUS that ya'll are whining about this but ehotlovea is acceptable because going to work as a pilot and saying you'll take off when you feel like it but since you never feel like it, it's fine that the plane is full of passengers who paid for a flight, and anyone who disagrees should be removed from the plane by force or leave by choice but EITHER way, no refund or stay on and MAYYYbe she will lift off or MAYYBE she will just get off the plane and go home, likely the later, but regardless of your choice, since she's done this before, as the customer YoU ShOUld KnOW b3TTer is the consensus here. Pretty braindead hot takes.

Evolution is LITERALLY exclusion.

interactive cartoon porn has been a thing on the internet for a loooong time. imo any model who feels threatened by any other broadcaster no matter the gender is insecure and needs to step their pussy up.

independent models have their male significant others in the background helping in some way or another. same with studio models. there is usually someone in the background helping, usually its a male studio manager. i dont see an issue with project melody if a male is also apart of the conception.

You're terrible at comparisons lol.

Yes, sitting on a boarded plane that you have taken a huge part of your day to get on, and a huge chunk of money to board is the same as sitting in a cam room waiting for a cam girl to "do something".

Totally on point. /s

What I don't get are those that complain the most about (insert broadcaster name) keep returning to (insert broadcaster name) room.
Find something else to complain about like, I don't know.... The weather?

I read their post and it made no sense, just as their other post in ehotlova comparing an egg painted tan to a potato or some shit. WTF?

Honestly this tech could extend the life span of an adult entertainer. I mean get yourself digitized, you can look like your in your 18 to 25 for decades.
Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you can't be in your primate at any age.

It's not a comparison, it's an analogy. You're terrible at reading comprehension.

Regardless of your gaslighting effort, that's not at all what I said.

There are many cases where she would agree to do things for tips then simply never do them once tipped.
You're attempting to say she simply sits in the room silently, never interacting, never saying she will do certain things, never having a tip menu, just doing her thing while guys amass and tip her.
False.

I realize you are a reactive and defensive person who believes themselves an intellectual but are you delusional, under-informed or are you simply being purposely dishonest with the facts?

On the topic of gentrification:

Gentrification is an effect of economic forces harming the marginalized. It's predatory, and it's generally (rightfully) seen as negative. And make no mistake, gentrification in digital realms is rampant. Social media is the gentrification of the internet, and it has largely served to marginalize people in favor if what suits The Algorithm which is just a watchwordy way to describe silencing anything that can't be consolidated, cleaned up, and made marketable. Internet porn isn't immune to that at all. It's a huge industry, and it's run by a very small handful of massive media empires that couldn't give two fucks about your individual livelihood or your creative erotic expression (Mindgeek, anyone?)

I don't know if virtual camgirls in particular is an instance of gentrification, but I feel it's the opposite. If we were to find out that it's all been a plan bankrolled by Big Porn, to push out independent performers, I'd change my tune, but to me it currently feels like the kind of innovation that is responding to gentrifying forces. People who do not otherwise have a place within this world might be able to find stable entry into it, find a niche that is currently underserved, and do so without a huge startup investment.

A very good point, indeed.

My counter (or just complementary) argument is related to who has the means (education, tech skills, etc) for doing so and who does not. If this is a big trend, also, at some point you won't need humans but just a lines of code.

It is not about nostalgia or being against innovation, but to be wary of what we understand by that. Why innovation has to be always about the survival of the fittest (meaning: the richest or already privileged)? why innovation can't have a different agenda?
