Chaturbate and free tokens scam

Someone else posted about an offer of 250 free tokens on Chaturbate. I've seen it myself last night and i see how its being done.

How it works is free users (exhibitionists) account are created and broadcast a video that look like a regular models on cam performance. The scammers just put a clear but slightly blurred overlay graphic over top of the whole page. The clear overlay has a graphic text and looks like a popup its offering 250 free tokens to users signing up to chaturbates new "dating site" which of course is a fake site trying to get traffic.

I saw 3 different rooms in 20 minutes , the fake dating signup "popup" image itself appeared to be hosted at a russian site. I must point out chaturbate was reasonably fast in banning them and they didn't last much longer than 5 to 10 minutes

I have a Facebook page and from time to time I buy ads ... the content is related to Chaturbate and MyFreeCams.... the fb page was a constant hit with messages promoting the above scam... so I've took a look at it and ... surprise... another fake.
I even posted the code on pastebin (here) but some people are way to stupid and I don't try to educate anyone, I'm no genius ether but at least i try to think a bit.

what's the scam behind the 'token generators' (keyword I've seen prompted in google). obviously CB would be all over that shit and prevent their currency from being devalued, it's literally their income. But what happens to people who fall for it? just malware or something

The dangerous "scams" related to token generators are stand-alone desktop clients... The ones which the victim downloads from the internet (hoping to get tokens for free) and installs it on their device. In Visual Studio anyone can create such "token generators" which basically are a keylogger. After tutorials I've tested such "generators myself and I was surprised to see how good and fast they work.
The keyloggers are simple... add your CB or MFC username / type your password to let our algorithm to fill your account with tokens. Generate > and all your input goes to an email address giving away your login credentials to 3rd party scammers.
Similar versions can be found on the internet too (web app)... so be aware.

The only MyFreeCams token generator which I know it worked in 2011 was created by a team of developers and released on dark-web . ... and it looked pretty nice too. Since then MFC has evolved a lot.
My advice... don't use any of them... sooner or later you'll get burned and not rich.

but it only steals your CB info? (I guess for some people that could have identity theft potential, but wouldn't CC info still be unavailable, and wouldn't most guests use a fake name/etc.?) or does it work as a background keylogger for everything?

Let's say I have your login credentials to your CB account, username and password.
The first thing I'll do is to change the payment info and disable any email notifications.
I am sure when you login you will not check and see if the payment details are changed... it's not a daily routine. So yes i think it is enough.

Another virtual possibility.
If you have a pretty "nice" amount of tokens I'll tip some models (collaborators to my scam) and quickly do all I can to delete or determine CB to ban the account.

PS: Don't worry I always play by the rules, even if things goes bad.

Good keyloggers work in background and "records" all you type on keyboard or even copy from clipboard ... some of them are browser-based and with little help can be used on phishing...
(phishing and keyloggres are not the same, two different actions, two different type of malicious "things" )

There is no such thing as 'free tokens'. You will pay for it anyway. And I rather have my money go to MFC and Chaturbate so that they can pay their models than to criminal hackers somewhere.

Personally, if someone has been foolish enough to try these 'free token' apps, and they get burned.. I'd say they had it coming.

some one will read this and think there are free tokens.

The funny thing is you can install a crypto currency miner on your computer. And given enough time, you might actually make a few bucks. And if you hold onto those bucks for a long enough time; you might actually cover the cost of the electricity spent making them.
