Okay, so, I'm able to get a new (well, secondhand) desktop but I'm not thaaaat computer savvy, and I just want a second/third/fourth opinion on the computer I'm looking at getting. I've emailed Streamate but they haven't replied yet and I need opinions before Tuesday, basically.
I will be wanting to stream on Chaturbate and/or Streamate, hopefully in HD (especially when my net connection is upgraded). I've been basing my search off of Streamate's equipment guide.
I'll also be wanting to do video editing for 1080p 60fps which my current shitty laptop can handle if I have an external fan on it and the editing is very basic, and it's under 10 minutes long.

This is a screenshot of the chart Streamate has for their recommended equipment.

It's almost all a foreign language to me, but from what I can gather- it will be good enough.
Am I right? Or am I just totally overthinking everything and blegh. I just want to be able to make cool porn stuff without worrying about my laptop catching fire on me.

pls help

I've also gone with a desktop because it looks like I can get more power for a lower price, and there's no point in me having a laptop as my room is too small to move around much.

Those are great specs! You will also get better performance online when you connect with a hard wired ethernet cable instead of WiFi. Cheers

My advise would be go for a diy desktop custombuild it will be cheaper and easier to upgrade for the future and most of them time more bang for your buck

I will let other, more knowledgable people comment on what you need to stream effectively in terms of CPU and network speed, but two things stand out for me.

1. 8 GB of RAM seems kind of small for this day and age. I would recommend at least 16GB if you can afford it.
2. Same for the “hard” drive… a 500GB HD was sufficient a few years ago, but if you want to create/edit videos on this machine you might want to look at something larger. Storage is easy/cheap to add later so this is not a show stopper.

If you can, make sure you get a SSD (Solid State Drive) rather than a HD.

That's not possible for me to do right now, due to funds- this one I'll be paying off over a month but it will be sent out straight away. Trust me, if I could afford it, I would. Especially because Far Cry 5.

Due to the fact that it IS secondhand, I only have a select few options but yes I've found a better one with 16gb RAM which I could upgrade in the future. As I said, I was going off what Streamate was recommending & what the video editor I use suggests, and so far apparently I'll be fine. I've also been talking to other camgirls/content producers & they say what I'm getting will be fine.
I can always upgrade the hard drive at a later date, but from experience I don't use that much space. This is several month's of no cleanup & a bunch of movies, games, and my own clips.

I've got a kind of limited budget, sadly, but I want to be able to get the best I can as soon as possible because my laptop is literally about to shit lava while I'm sitting here on Chrome, nothing else running, 2 tabs open.

As soon as it was announced I cried because what I've been using lately hasn't been able to run Far Cry 4, which I own, and one day.... I'll be able to play it.. but that day is not today.
I can deal with lag, but my video card isn't nearly good enough so I just had the location text stuck over my screen & wasn't able to advance in the game.

It sounds like either machine you've listed should suit you. However, as counter-intuitive as it may sound, I always recommend people spend a little more than their budget allows. I don't mean break the bank, but even if the machine is upgradable it will likely be awhile before you will upgrade it. When you amortize the long term cost/benefit ratio spending a little more up front usually pays off.

A downside of that computer is because it is DDR3 ram memory you are not going to be able to use it in the future if you would want to upgrade. But a core i7 is a good choice for video editing because it has 4 cores and hyper threading which helps with CPU intensive tasks. You are probably going to need to upgrade the amount of hard drive space pretty soon after you get into 1080p 60 FPS editing because the file sizes tends to be quite large. I don't know what your budget is or how urgently you need to upgrade your computer, but if your laptop is running hot perhaps you could get a cooling pad and then you could save up some money and get a computer with a AMD Ryzen 5 1600X processor and DDR4 memory which will give you more bang for the buck.

2nd hand computers are often priced high. And usually there is no warranty & no support.

What's your budget?

I'm going to be doing a laybuy-type deal that I pay it off weekly, but get it immediately. I'm already stretching my budget to it's max to buy this one, which is NZD $600 + $15 for delivery. Trust me, a cooling pad will not help- I've considered it but even with an external fan it still overheats. Considering I spend on average, NZD$190 on a secondhand laptop, this is a big upgrade for me.
For example, my current laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L650 Pro, and as I showed in an above post at under 500gb of hard drive space I've barely used half, and I do have an external hard drive.

Just for clarification, are the specs you just posted for your current laptop or the machine you are thinking of getting? If that is your current machine you should be pleased with the upgrade and notice a substantial difference. If those are the specs of the machine you are thinking of getting... Don't!

Getting some sort of financing to get the machine immediately is not a bad idea either, particularly if you can pay it off early without penalty. Suppose you took the payments and saved the money. You would be able to buy the machine for cash in 6-12 month, during which time you'd be limping along with an underpowered, ready to die at any minute machine that would likely affect your ability to make money (low quality streams, unable to do much video editing etc.). By using the financing option you may pay more in the long run, but you get the machine right away and have 6-12 months of usage that you wouldn't have otherwise to generate higher quality content.

The one I posted recently is my own laptop, and no I can't get any financing, I've looked into it. And as I said in another reply earlier, my laptop is ready to shit lava. I've got 2 chrome tabs open, absolutely nothing else, and it's on the brink of overheating. It definitely wouldn't last another 6-12 months.
With the weekly payments, I pay $75 a week but as soon as I enter that contract I get the desktop shipped to me immediately. And it would be here in days. It's paid off within 2 months, easy.

I7 and 8GB is enough for your needs,
If someday you need more, you just need to change the RAM to something bigger.
If there is any lag, it will be from a software or from google chrome, use any other browser it will eat your RAM and the CPU, If your PC heating a lot! give it to IT guy, they will clean the dust and put new thermal paste that's will help a lot..
Also use Ethernet instead of wireless, more stable, that's what I found in my experience

I'm getting 16gb instead of 8gb now, should be ordering the desktop tomorrow, and so I can use it right away I will be getting a WIFI adapter but I will be getting an ethernet cable extension (only one port in the house and I'd need to run a lead along the roof to get to my room)

Thank you so much for all of the advice everyone! Hopefully if my payout arrives tomorrow or the day after I'll be ordering it then & I'm so so excited :h:

Before you get rid of your current laptop take it to a repair shop and have them clean it. This will usually fix the overheating issue. Once thats done you may be able to use it for gaming or storage. It could possibly buy you more time while you save up for a better computer. Like a desktop that can be be upgraded as you go.

Since you're not computer savy I wouldn't recommend taking it apart and cleaning it yourself. It could be disastrous if you arent careful. Last I checked it cost around $35 to have a laptop cleaned.

As for the computers you listed, those are more than acceptable for Streamate.

I disagree with this simply because custom builds are really easy to mess up, if she finds the above language difficult she's going to have a hard time building her own pc from scratch.

I recently built my own, and it was very difficult for me. (now it's a breeze, but before i was fucking clueless)

Building your own pc is DEFINITELY ideal, but it's difficult unless you have a trusted person to help you out with the technical stuff and putting it together.

It's really intimidating and easy to mess up if you don't know what you're doing. I think what you have should be good enough, but a couple tips would be always use ethernet, and check your "placement status" when you get online. I can't remember exactly what it's called, but they have a tab where you can see all your placement information and it makes it really easy.

Also, use SM broadcast and pay attention to your CPU usage. If it's too high your feed will lag, I had that issue on my old laptop that had similar specs to the ones you do.

Getting into the models only section will help out with this information a lot because we have whole threads dedicated to getting the best possible stream you can have. :3 Good luck.

Thank you!!! and once I'm camming again I will definitely get verified for models only :3

Yes- Would only add to not over-clutter hard drive, use a back-up for unnecessary items. Fast is about only having in your computer what you really need and good computer care.
I would expect most models who can afford to, to have a laptop/ desktop purely dedicated to just camming. Take care of business before anything personal when it comes to online activity.

I agree with you but many shops make the diy systems you only have to tell them what you want in it or the famous i want a system for twitch streaming

I've been there and done that and I've only had bad experiences either being told I didn't "need" what they thought I did and them going way over my budget.

They also have probed me over questions that were really none of their business. It really depends where you live though, I live in nowhere land so it's hard to find anyone reliable.

I have no input regarding streamate and their software, but if you're using OBS (which works on chaturbate), then that computer can handle 1080p very easily. Intel's integrated graphics has a chip for encoding video, so you don't even need to worry about CPU as long as the software you're using allows you to use hardware encoding (SM Broadcast did not last time I used it, which was a while ago). However, streamate also didn't do 1080 at the time either, so my laptop did 720 just fine. That desktop is 2.5x faster than my laptop (HP Elitebook 8570p with an i5-3320M) and my laptop easily handles 1080p when using hardware encoding (Intel QuickSync). I actually just bought an older version of that desktop so I could do 4k. I bought an hp elite 8300 (a generation older than the desktop you're considering) for $100, threw in an NVIDIA GTX 1050 in it, and I can now stream at 4k on a computer that cost around $250.

The only downside to using hardware encoding is it's lower quality for the same bitrate as using software encoding. However, I looked at many side by side comparisons between hardware and software encoding before buying the GTX 1050 and I couldn't really tell a difference.

Due to something that wasn't told to me on signup for the payments, I wasn't able to get it- but I did get a laptop that is at least better than my current, so even if I can't cam on Streamate, I'll definitely be able to cam on CB and work my way to something better :) Thank you so much everyone for the advice, I really appreciate it!
