Hi All

I Wish MFC (and many other sites) would beef up their Geo blocking like ModelCentro... Not only by state or country but they allow a more narrow focused block like cities. So If someone has family or lives in X city of Colorado or Florida or California they can block all the cities around the sensitive areas. So whole states dont get blocked just to prevent family or friends or work or ??? in 1 or 2 or 10 cities from easily seeing a MFC webcammer. (I know that there are workarounds to geo blocking but it sure helps) Just my 1.5 cents :kiss:

Unpopular opinion but geoblocking is not effective anyways. I think it gives models a false sense of security.

On mobile data my IP shows as being anywhere from 3-5 provinces away. My home internet places me as being in a neighboring municipality frequently despite the fact that I reside in a major city.

If I wanted to stop people in my area from discovering me I would need to block my entire country.

Ohhh! So mobile is different than a home computer! I see! That sucks! I appreciate the info!!:kiss:

Like pointed out, it's not accurate at all. Your lucky if it gets the right state.
Also if your blocking say one city, and no where else, That that really narrows down your location. I mean much more then blocking a whole state.

I dunno, I find geoblocking to be effective in that I don't want people from camsites finding me in the real world. A good geoblock will not have you show up on a site at all if you are online and they are accessing the site from an IP from a blocked region. A bad geoblock informs the member that they cannot view a profile due to location.

There was one site where I worked that had a really awful geoblock like this in place. I had a regular who was one of those sorts that was fine in the beginning and got more and more obsessive. Through that really faulty geoblock, he managed to find out where I was from and somehow managed to find my IRL social media in spite of giving him no personal information, never sharing the same pictures, etc.

I agree that there is always a chance that someone you personally know will find out, but good geoblocks could help reduce stalking at the very least.

How is it effective when so many mobile providers are known to show ip addresses that aren't actually accurate for your real area?

As well as how many people use vpns?

This is interesting in that I went and looked up my IP on my phone and it shows a different state (F@#$ Mobile carriers) soooo that does not help. The VPN thing is a whole other story. BUT for the casual user surfing porn / cam sites from their HOME computer OR a phone/tablet on a WIFI it is very effective (no VPN) at blocking areas. That is why I wish I could narrow it down instead of blocking 6% of the entire USA.

is it possible on mfc, that models can block or ban guests? I asked mfc support, but they say, the model should contact support in this case.

I have always wanted this feature ever since my first day on MFC because I live in a very large state. I sent an email to mfc support about this a while back but I never received a reply ):

That would be super convenient! Have you tried reaching out to support to see if they are able to do more narrow blocks on their end? They're usually pretty good about getting back to models in a pretty quick amount of time. :)

The way geolocation works it is not really possible to do it that accurately. It happens that geolocation providers such as MaxMind can get an entire IP-range wrong so the IP-adress shows up in a different state or even worse an entirely different country and the risk that it will be wrong on a local level is even higher.

I think it's better if they hold off narrower blocking. It would really just give a false sense of security. I'm not on mobile right now, but if I check my location based on IP right now it still doesn't report the correct city. Hell, if I go to pay my cable bill, I sometimes get a pop-up before logging in that says "we don't provide service in your area". I'm on an IP you guys provided yourselves, ffs! I live in Arizona, and websites frequently place me in California. I don't think it's fair to expect MFC or any other site to make city-level blocking an option. I can only imagine it would result in a headache for their support team when it doesn't work quite as expected. And it wouldn't, the accuracy just isn't good enough.
