Taken from several articles, each is a quote directly from the horses' mouths.

From The Rooster.com
1. They earnestly think you want to see them

“No, I have never sent a dick pic. I've learned from various friends that no matter how secret you think something may be, if it's on the Internet or shared digitally, it's pretty much out there forever. Of course there are egotistical types that I feel have self-image problems as well as communication problems. But there are also caring boyfriends/husbands that want to "share" with their significant others reluctantly or not. Some guys self-project the idea that since it’s a female and he's a male that they want to see that regardless of the scenario. I guess the goal would be to score? If not, it’s to not be ridiculed which I think if the picture is sent unwarranted that will surely happen.” Male, 33

“Any guy who’s watched porn would not be fazed by random boob and vagina pics. So, why are women so offended by a random dick pic?” - Male, 21

2. Because they think people like the attention

“Well first off, my dick isn't big enough or pretty enough for me to go around sending it to chicks thinking that I will gain anything from it. Honestly, I have heard of a lot of guys sending girls pictures of their dicks, and I am guessing that they must have got some positive feedback on certain occasions. When it comes to any kind of human behavior that involves physicality we don't seem to be much different than dogs, we learn by reward. I think a lot of girls, even though they outwardly voice their disapproval, love the attention and are horny sick fucks just like men. Even if my dick were more photogenic I still think that I would refrain from sending dick pics because it seems animal, mindless, disrespectful and degrading to both the recipient and the sender.” Male, 26

3. Creative self expression

“There is an art to taking one, if you want it to work you have to take a picture of you holding your dick and it has to look too heavy for your hand to hold it.” Male, 27

“I used to send dick pics to basically anyone who would have them… It's definitely an expression of power in some sense. It's the epitome of your masculinity; it's what makes you a man — what good am I but it?” - Male, 30

4. The harrasment aspect is weirdly hot to some dudes

“I think that 'lashing out' towards women on online dating sites, whether harmless annoyance or genuine harassment, is caused by being ignored so thoroughly by so many women. After a while, women on these sites aren't people with feelings; they're just thousands of profiles who all seem to dislike you for completely unknown reasons. Dick pics are, I think, a very specific form of this harassment — probably from guys who are more on the narcissistic side and perhaps overly confident about their bodies... The end goal of this little game is to elicit some kind of reaction — good, bad, or otherwise.” - Male, 29

5. It's free porn

“I’ve mostly sent [dick pics] after a few flirtations back and forth with girls I’ve met online who seemed to want to hook up. Who wouldn’t want to be sent free porn?” - Male, 30

6. Guys think they're being thoughtful. Aww.

“I like pictures of vaginas from women. Why don't women like pictures of penises? I don't get it.” - Male, 24

"Tommy, a 32-year-old from New York, used a more literary explanation: "Anais Nin once said, 'We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.' I would be over the moon if some woman sent me a picture of any nudity whatsoever, so I assume that women feel the same way.” - Male, 29

7. It states their intention pretty, pretty clearly

"Sending a dick pic is the same thing as saying "I want to fuck you." I'm not gonna send one to a girl I wan't to date right off the bat." - Male, 27

"If you send a photo of your penis to someone, it's because you want someone to do something with that penis. The picture makes people think about what that would be." - Male, 25

8. They think you'll return the favor

"If I want see a girl naked, I'll send her a dick pic. It's just common courtesy to send one back." - Male, 22

9. Because someone asked for one

"I've had a lot of men ask to see pictures of my cock. They were polite, so I sent one." - Male, 24

"Especially with online dating, girls want to know what you're working with because they can't see it in person. A lot of times once you start talking to them on Tinder or something, they'll ask for a dick pic so they know you're not a robot or there's no deal-breaking thing about your penis for them." - Male, 29

“Dick pics? Yeah bro… who hasn’t. Well, my deal was I was hooking up with this married chick who was divorcing her husband. They lived in the same house but in different rooms. She was very catholic and he was the only guy she had ever been with so things started to go along and I started to ask her to send me sexy pics of herself so she did and it really started to turn her on to do that. Then she sheepishly asked if I would send her pics of me. So I did and she REALLY liked that. I did it before with another girl but it was the same deal, she asked me first after sending me pics of herself. I have never just sent one on my own or was ever the first one to ask. I think it has to be the girls request but I guess you could nudge her a bit and if she is not into it then it won’t work. It’s all about what turns her on. – Male, 46

10. Because they don't know what else to say

"When I see a hot girl, I just send a dick pic because I have no idea what to say to her." - Male 27

"It really is the best pickup line." - Male, 19

From yourtango.com
1. It’s about pride…

"When I used to do it, it was often a mixture of pride and ... pride. I only ever rarely did it unsolicited but I'd never gotten a 'Why did you do that?!' And I occasionally got a couple of "do that again, please," responses.

Now, as an older, rational man, I frown upon unsolicited dick pics because it's just wrong, even if the only reason most men do it is because they hope you'll show your tits in return. All that said, if a woman asks, it's a request that should be fulfilled immediately because more often than not, it's a test."

2. It’s nice to get a compliment…

"Either I was asked for it or I knew that the person would respond positively. It feels good to have someone compliment your junk or tell you that they want it."

3. I was hoping to get a photo of them in return…

"I've always thought of it as tit for tat. If I send it, even if they don't ask for it, I assumed it would get me a naked picture of them. But I would like to point out that I haven't tried that since I was 25 or so … so it's been about five years."

4. So she knows she gave me an erection...

"It has always been in the middle of some dirty texting and it made sense to share how hard she made me."

5. I thought it would be an honor for her…

"Let's pretend I might have considered it in my teens. Those years predate mobile phone cameras (or even digital ones) so honestly, teenage me would have probably considered it an honor for the woman to receive a large oil painting of my trouser business."

6. It’s usually after I’ve been drinking…

"I can't answer this because I don't know why I've done it. It's usually after I've been drinking and for some reason it just makes sense. The next morning I always realize it was a stupid and childish move but it doesn't stop me from doing it again when I've had too much to drink."

7. I was asked for it…

"Because I've been asked. Plain and simple. If someone I'm into wants a picture of my dick, then why wouldn't I oblige?"

8. I’m just a guy…

“I’ve yet to meet a woman who has said that dicks are nice to look at it. So maybe subconsciously I’m trying to change that thought with mine? It’s either that or I’m just a guy.”

9. I assume it might be erotic…

“Since it’s erotic for me to get a picture of any part of a woman’s body, I assumed it might be erotic for her, too. But my wife put an end to that after I tried that once when we were still dating. She still makes fun of me for it.”

From The Daily Beast via Aurora Snow
I asked my Twitter followers why guys send such graphic photos. Here are some of my favorite responses:

@MissAuroraSnow It is the only thing we have physically that we know a woman wants. Especially if we're not Brad Pitt or his money.

— RealBulletHead (@RealBulletHead1) July 26, 2013
@MissAuroraSnow they hope you swoon and call them! They think that's gonna make you want them. It's lame

— Blake Brick (@blake_brick) July 26, 2013
@MissAuroraSnow At daycare this week a 2 y/o boy asked my 2 y/o girl if she wanted to see his penis. She said no. Some of us never grow up.

— Chris Szymanski (@CASzymanski) July 26, 2013
@MissAuroraSnow bombs, missiles, rockets, bullets, planes, trains...all shaped like docks. We're obsessed. We have a need to project it. :)

— Alan Smithee (@alansmithee461) July 26, 2013
@MissAuroraSnow I think it's because they don't have any clue how to handle real women. They're so used to the instant gratification of porn

— Dave VanVranken (@DaveVanVranken) July 26, 2013
@MissAuroraSnow Srsly? I'd say it's a dumbed down LCD reproductive response. "Here is my Masculinity. Please bear my offspring."

— Michael Varian Daly (@TheRealNebris) July 26, 2013
@MissAuroraSnow Some men are so sexed-up and over-porned they don't see the difference between reality and fantasy.

Look: We live in an age of rampant narcissism where very many people believe that they are better than they are, sexier than they are, and that people care about them and want to know all about them, regardless of the level of personal familiarity. The digital saturation of d*ck pics is a symptom of that. Some guys out there are really into themselves and their phalluses, and they assume that you will be, too. It’s kind of like how girls who take duck face selfies don’t realize that practically nobody wants to see that.

02-d-ck-pics_0.png

Many of us men don’t understand that our hormonal desire to see pictures of breasts and/or vaginas doesn’t often translate equally to the other side of the sexual spectrum. Some guys just assume that a woman will start salivating when she sees their package, like we salivate when we see a nipple.

03-d-ck-pics_0.png

As, like, gratitude or something.

04-d-ck-pics_0.png

You know how some people will use trickery to make themselves look bigger or smaller or altogether better-looking? Well, you can do that with a schlong shot, too. There’s no size scale in most of these pics unless it’s intentional (like posing your shaft next to a soup can). Also, I've heard the camera adds 10 pounds.

05-d-ck-pics_0.png

The online dating world is completely insane for women. I get maybe one OkCupid message a month from a girl I haven’t messaged first. My roommate recently opened an account, and she got more than 100 messages in a single day. She also says that once she gives a man her number, he’ll often get drunk and send her some package pics without her ever asking for them. What I’m saying is that dudes are #thirsty, women have many options due to technology, and so online dating can be a frustrating practice for a guy. So some men lash out in horrible ways. You don’t answer their message? They start talking down to you or being outright mean. Or they send you a picture of their penis. Because that’ll show 'em what they’re missing!

From Glamour

    • "Guys send d*ck picks because they fundamentally misunderstand how most women feel about d*cks."

    • "I think it's pretty plain and simple; he thinks it'll work. If you notice, this is not fundamentally different than anything else a guy would do or say to get laid; because he thinks it will work."
    • "Nothing makes a man happier than sending a d*ck pic and receiving a tw*t shot in return."*

    • "Heavy question for noon on a Wednesday."

    • "I think the only time I've ever actually taken a picture of my d*ck was from below it, so I could understand what my d*ck looks like from an bug's point of view. Because I'm a scientist."

    • "Most women are instrumentalists about d*cks. They like it but they like it for the things it can be made to do, like get them off."

    • "I'd actually bet that a lot of guys send such pictures because they've been asked to by girls they met online, and after doing it once, they think it's appropriate sexual behavior."

    • "It depends on the degree of sophistication and how far up the hierarchy of experience he is."
    • "There are very very few women who like d*cks as objects. The way you like paintings."
    • "Because we either are insecure about our d*cks and want approval, or we are proud of our endowment and are hoping you leak the photo to all of your friends."
    • "Taking a picture of a penis makes it one-dimensional!"

    • "The flaw in this entire line of thinking is not understanding the fact that women do not need to trick a guy into having sex with them. I don't mean anything dastardly. By 'trick,' I mean a normal guy has to essentially talk his way into sex by being funny or charming or whatever, in a way a normal woman does not. By sending a d*ck picture, he is trying to give away d*ck in the same way, he imagines, if he was a woman, he'd give away [vagina]."
    • "It's all about escalation. First some cute 'LOL, this is mah face' pics, then undergarments, then body shots."
    • "I mentioned this to [my girlfriend] and she suggested that it might be because some guys are insecure about their ability to articulate themselves. They're uncomfortable saying they want to have sex with a girl, so they send a picture of their d*cks instead. I think this is a very wise answer, but I can't take credit for it since [my girlfriend] came up with it."
    • "Guys like upskirt shots because, in addition to liking the women they are attached to, we like vaginas as objects of art."
    • "Guys might genuinely think that it's a sexy thing that girls would want. There is some logic there, although this is a prime example of why logic doesn't always work."

Yeah unfortunately for these guys it's mostly about the feel, and not at all the visual at all for most women. Women learn pretty quickly that no matter what the dick looks like...it can be great or terrible feeling if he doesn't know what he's doing.

Question is how to get all guys to understand that, and how though I wouldn't want just random pics thrown at me...literally ANY other body part is generally more attractive to most heterosexual women.

Dick pic sent- resting bored face, maybe accompanied with an eye roll.

Pick of sexy broad shoulders-might actually get a positive reaction of some kind.

Try to keep this relatively bounded. This thread is to do with the reason guys who send dick pics... send dick pics. Not why guys send dick pics - there's a significant difference, but you would never guess it from the posts in the thread.

So... not all guys send dick pics; not all guys want to send dick pics. Guys who do send dick pics don't represent all guys, or even all guys who send dick pics either - so not all quotes of guys who do send dick pics are applicable to the set of guys sending dick pics.

There's a fuck-ton of guys who don't send dick pics - but apparently "guys" (implying all?) need to *understand* something about sending dick pics. I don't need to understand anything about sending dick pics.

So whilst you probably do enjoy "understanding" why some guys who send dick pics... send dick picks, don't mistake that for all guys. We don't all send dick pics, we don't all want to send dick pics, we don't all think there's a good reason to send dick pics, or care why other guys send dick pics.

For me in general it reeks of a really off-putting narcissism, the same when a guy randomly sends you a picture of their abs or something. But the dick pic is worse because it's quite vulgar and so directly sexual that it's presumptuous.

In general though I like a good ol' fashioned courting. So no nudes or dick pics, no sexting unless we're in an actual relationship.

The guy who said his dick was all he had that women would want the because he didn't look like Brad Pitt & wasn't rich made me sad. Maybe he just meant sexually, but still.

I think anyone intelligent enough is able to understand this on their own, without having to be told that not all guys send dick pics. I believe the ACF community is intelligent enough so i wouldn't stress it

@GenXoxo I personally think women have a lot more in a guy that they like, even sexually, than just a dick. They also got fingers, hands and tongues like come on.

You know I wouldn't mind it as much if guys sent tasteful SEXY pics of them nude, like women send (at least cam girls.) But most guys just think a quick upclose snap of their junk will suffice. It's not the actual penis that gets people off. It's the guy that's attached to it. That'd be like girls sending just pics of their vaginas to guys and nothing else. Whose vagina does this belong to? Is she cool? Is she even hot? Guys would probably be like wtf too! Another example I can think of is this girl once was trying to sell her underwear and had a picture of a pair crumpled up, laying on the ground. It's the same concept...just like people aren't wanting to buy any pair of underwear without knowing WHO was wearing them, girls aren't going to get off on seeing random pics of a guy's dick without at least seeing his face or the rest of him in a tasteful manner.

Great attachments to read, I agree some are sad and some funny! I also wish guys would send more tasteful things...if you want me to talk to you than I want to see what you look like! Be cute or funny but DONT start off with dick pics, its such a turn off.

Very few guys are going to be unhappy about getting random vagina pics.
Actually, I've had the occaisional vag pic sent to me. I"m not complaining, but it's certainly been a bit of a shock to open [insert social platform here], and find the model's nether region in all it's glory. I guess I'm strange that way :) If they asked for a dick pic from me, I'm not sure if I'd be able to do it being how shy I am. That's not to say that I wouldn't do it. Just that I'd be hessitant knowing it's going to be on the internet permanently afterwards.

Guys sending dick picks are shooting blindly

Hoping that someone will be positive about the picture
All you need is one

Yeah, similar to guys I've known who approach strange women and hit on them--they get nothing but a sour look 99 out of 100 times, but they figure if they do it often enough....

Yeah I think they missed specifying "unsolicited"

Neither of these are unsolicited or random though. That's the big dick pic mystery

That's the thing. I only send nudes or boob or pussy tease pics IF the context is right! Like, if we're overtly flirting about sex or I ask, "Hey, do you want to see my tits?" OR in my paid snapchat for camming.

But those are all specific to the right context of the conversation/snap/photo. That, I think, is the problem with many dick pics - they are sent unsolicited or in the wrong context.

Edit: One of my favorite examples of "you did it right" here is silly. I snapped a pic of my tits and sent them to my subscribers. One guy sent a snap back of him pulling his shirt up in exactly the same angle and pose as me, showing off his nipples and added ";)" to the snap. It was a funny returned pic, even if not a dick pic.

Madeline Holden, creator of Critique My Dick Pic reminds us that "dick is abundant and of low value."

Ouch! Supply and demand, I guess. The market is just FLOODED with dudes wanting to show off their cocks.

I thought a lot of the replies were kinda sweet, just in a sort of misguided way XD
I mean, male sexuality tends to be a little more straight forward than female sexuality; for a lot of people of both genders it can be a little difficult to see the other side of it. I try to take dick pics as a compliment, the guy either wants me to return the favor, or he's trying to turn me on in the hopes I'll wanna touch his dick (I already knew this from my SO). Lets face it, there are much worse things we could be sent to us as cam girls >_<

This reminds me of the pussy pic case in Orange is the New Black.
OT: I utterly dislike dick pics. Unless it's a black dick and I had requested the pic.

“I used to send dick pics to basically anyone who would have them… It's definitely an expression of power in some sense. It's the epitome of your masculinity; it's what makes you a man — what good am I but it?” - lol well obviously no good...
Some of these made me laugh really hard though, funny not just to see responses but to imagine what they feel when they write them... like... really, why DO I send dick picks?

I almost posted my own thread about this but I figure it would fit nicely here.

If your going to send dick pics and least make it look nice. Some grooming, also no one likes a flaccid penis that's disappointed for both parties
Along with that some spaz goes along way.
