Howdy all,

Despite the 'headliner' of this bill *ostensibly* being something we all agree with (I'd venture to say nobody is cool with sex trafficking!), like all bills, a plethora of little tidbits were thrown in that have turned our industry upside down. Once again, a good cause has been abused as a vehicle for instituting multiple agendas/vendettas against the adult industry. Unsurprising, but disconcerting nonetheless.

This sort of thing has happened before - we face an unprecedented amount of stigma and unfair practices in our industry. Compared to many of you, I am still a newcomer to the industry, so this is really my 'first' hands-on experience with watching my livelihood come under fire by way of yet another means.

Thus, I want to be educated about this as much as possible. I'd like to hear how the bill has affected each of you so we can all better understand the myriad of ways in which FOSTA-SESTA has hurt our respective businesses.

For me, I've already experienced a few issues. Some sites I used for promotion have banned me because they are afraid of the litigation that could follow by allowing posting by members with pay-to-view sites (understandable - not the fault of the sites in question). These sites were pretty instrumental in my networking.

Twitter is looking scarier by the day. A lot of models now avoid any sex-related tags which could be immensely useful in promotion, networking, and outreach. I've seen dozens of models shadow-banned or completely 'disappeared' in the last week alone. I feel that a new 'culture of bypassing' could emerge in the adult sector of social media - this means less concise and clear information.

I've been on hiatus from camming (while all this stuff went down, coincidentally) and am a bit curious about how things might be different when I return later this week. We'll see.

Anyway, I'd like to hear from y'all. How has this affected you personally?

I'm in Canada so besides a couple payment processor hiccups (which I've solved now) it hasn't really affected me very much.

Friends of mine however who work at a local escort agency lost back page because of it and they have had a hell of a time as that was there main source of advertising.

See, this is where I feel like it gets especially dangerous. What are they going to do? Just drop their livelihood? Most escorts are going to relocate to places and means more dangerous than BP...it's sad. This is just like the War on Drugs - 'censorship' (in all its forms) just compels people to take more clandestine routes and empowers less legitimate entities e.g. the War on Drugs essentially fuels the Cartel.

I hope they do OK :/

Luckily most of the girls at the shop had regular clients and they are working on new forms of advertising but it was definitely a big hit and just hurts the people trying to make a living the most. Its silly.

Aside from payment processors, changing adverts to say I offer things like discord instead of Skype, and finding backups in case "the next big thing" closes down...I've noticed a drop in tippers (could be tax season but it's been quite a dip in my paycheck. I imagine many guys are paranoid. I've had a spike of guys looking more and more for models wanting to hook up as if they are on CL. Heck, I've had several who straight up told me that they were asking for that exact reason.

I'm really not looking forward to the annual summer slow down either.

It's worrying me to the point where I've started looking for part-time work. The only time I've ever done work outside of camming in the last 6 years was when I moved to another state. I was having to get everything slowly set up, find a decent place to stay, make sure my internet was good enough, etc so I wanted to make sure I had steady income no matter what. That job was maybe for 3 months. Turned out with what I was earning on cam I didn't need it, but I would rather be safe than sorry. I don't plan on quitting camming, and do plan on being online in any way shape and form I can be it camgirl, clip maker, doing discord shows or something else entirely.

My heart definitely goes out to those who lost so much when things like BP closed down. I can't imagine how hard it must be for them.

Seems my Twitter has been shadowbanned for the first time ever... glad I made a switter account as a backup.

  • Sorry to hear that.

I have not been affected at all, fortunately. I’m just plain and simple a cam girl. No Skype, no date raffles, no meet ups.

I do not feel this forum will be affected either, though it seems some people are paranoid that every single adult site in the US will be shut down or the owners hauled off to jail.

@AmberCutie Yeah, I doubt this forum will have any issues. For a person trying to sell through multiple sites who can't promote through their camsite it's a bit different. It's hard to ignore when those multiple sites that I'm on have to make new paranoid changes like this and users are unwilling to take up new platforms. I never had to promise I won't do meetups before I logged on before this bill but now...

^I now have to verify that every before time I can go on cam.

I get why but it sucks so many feel pressured to make these changes at once.

I'm not a very exciting camgirl/clipmaker. Just had to switch from FCP. My streamate account (collecting dust) was under aw daily pay. So, I have to move it and make a new. Also, it affected my Bernie Sanders boner knowing that he voted for it. :bag: Not feeling so much Bern.

Hasn't yet thankfully but I'm curious about Xbox Live after May 1. I doubt much, if anything changes but won't be taking any chances at first. I like swearing but not enough to lose digital rights or accounts. All those gamesaves in the cloud would be lost, like tears in rain. I joke but I get the seriousness for some and feel for those dealing with it. Will be pretty salty myself if Live gets neutered in the process.

Interesting to hear what could be affected, what probably won't, and what we just aren't sure about. One of the worst symptoms of all of this is indeed the paranoia. In fact, a lot of the sites I was using most likely would have been fine, but shut down pre-emptively, out of fear that they would meet some sort of litigation. I have no doubt ACF is fine. Sometimes I wonder if all the paranoia on Twitter will become a self-fulfilling prophecy though - I've seen some pretty crazy posts lately..

I still think that members should ALSO have to agree not to arrange meet-ups, not ask for contact info, etc.

I might take a break from Twitter. Seeing so many Tweets about FOSTA/SESTA is now preventing it from being enjoyable for me :(

You should go to gab.ai Guy.

The only step I'm taking to ensure all is fine will be making adjustments and deletions to the Advertise Here section. Pretty simple, no biggie.

I hate to say it but the abundance of it on Twitter is putting me off, too. The majority of people I follow are fellow cam girls so it's incessant.

There's an option in settings to mute keywords, you can make it disappear from your timeline entirely if you want!
