Hi everyone,
I have been reading this site for a few months and only recently signed up, so here is my first thread!

How much outside marketing do you do for yourself?

Do you market your camsite/room? Market to your video sales page only? Combo of anything and everything?

Im just very interested in your marketing angles.

Happy camming!!

When I want more indie shows I will write Seo keyword rich blogs, tweet more, and hit up niche forums, use Reddit, second life etc. But for the most part I rely on the big box site internal traffic, just making sure I'm on enough of them to bring in the £.

I'm just gonna copy this from what I posted in another thread. I'd link it, but only this bit truly has to do with the topic, and it was a long post. ^.^;

As I hop on cam I post a pic on Manyvids, MyPornProfile and Fetlife letting everyone know I'm on with a link. I try to do Snapchat when getting on too.

I connect SkyPrivate to my twitter and they RT me when I log on. I work there the same time I cam, and dip when I get a Skype (since I don't use a cam there until then I don't get lag.)

I use CamModelDirectory the same way as SkyPrivate but don't have them connected to my twitter (they don't have the option).

I use Niteflirt while on cam (though dip for calls), though haven't really made much there...it's some publicity when they send out the tweet I'm on at least I guess.

SM 5 days a week 6am-1pm CST

I try to film right after I get off cam for about an hour.

When I get out of paid chats on SM I try to tweet a clip related tweet, to direct people to my clips, and let them know I'm out of paid chat.

Extralunchmoney, ManyVids (vanilla only), iWantclips (femdom), Amateurporn, MyPornProfile and Clips4Sale (full list of all my clips) all get uploaded to at least once a day (normally at night since I tweet in the day RT's of these clips) if possible to drive traffic.

I have a ModelCentro account for my member club, which I upload to each Sunday with new content. This makes me make vanilla content as I have a harder time with it hah. I take down the content of the previous week and upload those to clip stores, so they constantly get new content, and no one thinks they'll just get all the content for free all the time either. I put all my Snapchat pics there as well.

Writing blog posts is an interesting way to get the word out, for sure. I didn't see your blog linked to your MFC profile, but I assume you link to your cam rooms/sites from your blog?

I make really heavy use of social media and networking to boost my exposure.

Do you use any of the scheduler utilities for twitter / facebook or anything like that? Do you get good response from your tweets, as far as conversations or clicks to your website(s)?

Wow, thats quite a schedule.. Dual purposing your content like that makes so much sense! With your ModelCentro site, do you get like a messaging platform for your paying members? Or do you maintain an emaillst of them yourself?

Thanks to everyone so far with the replies. I am no expert, but very interested in the marketing world. Seeing the different ways that everyone uses the different platforms that are out there is fantastic!!

ModelCentro has a messaging platform, yes...but I usually don't use it to email them. I like to email through C4S (since it is a full list of my clips) to previous buyers on occasion, letting them know of new videos, but mainly I blog on ModelCentrol, and make sure anything important (announcement-wise is on Twitter, so that the majority see it.)

My member club so far is predominantly photos, videos, a few blog posts, and membership discounts.

Blogging is one of the best ways to market - wordpress is picked up highly by the search engines as are the free platforms tumblr and blogger. Good, interesting content, filled with keywords your target market are interested in, will appear frequently on search engine results and bring new traffic to you.

I have affiliate links on my site but prefer to keep people on it for shows and sales as I already get plenty of custom while on big box camsites, so I don't direct them elsewhere.

Yes, I use them - though less heavily day to day camming. I use them for camgirltoolkit tips of the day on twitter. When I'm busy or going away I use them more heavily to post things.

I don't use facebook - its pretty not-adult friendly.

I get a fantastic response to my tweets. It's a huge networking tool for me - for models and members, and helps me keep in touch with regulars too.

Very interesting stuff so far. Seems like twitter is one of the better ways to get the word out.

Do you get into a lot of 'conversations' on twitter with fans, regulars, etc on twitter? Do you have to send the same promo type tweets out multiple times per day for exposure?

I assume that ModelCentro and C4S 'owns' your email lists then? Or do you have direct access to the buyers email addresses?

Whats the name of your blog? I was going to ask you a few simple questions about it, but it would probably just be easier to look at the blog myself then ask better questions later ;)

Thats certainly true for facebook on the adult friendly (or lack of it).
Not to pull anyone a way from this great community here but, have you considered doing a closed group though for your fans/regulars to hang out in?
Doesn't necessarily need to be any un-facebook-friendly pics or anything in a group like that.
A lot of good marketing demographic info to be had from a facebook group, i would think anyways. Or maybe you do already have a forum or something else for that.

Thanks for all the info so far, hopefully its helpful to someone, it is selfishly feeding my curiosity at least !

Neither site shows email (though c4s shows most of it (ex: my email is annsolo42@gmail.com, and it would show as annsolo42@********). I never even look at them though, since emailing people from C4S individually would just be weird and spammy.

ModelCentro does it like a private message/twitter dm. I've members message me there, but I never message there first, since it's just not as reasonable to use as say a twitter dm, email (if I have it) or other thing I know the member from.

Most ModelCentro members for me are guys I've know for quite a while, and have chatted/messaged with on another site. Maybe if someone who I only knew on ModelCentro joined and I felt compelled to message them...but I'd probably refrain from bugging the guy, and just let him relax and enjoy the site,

I also feel I do a lot of outside networking. Twitter is my main spot to advertise and keep in touch but I also have my own website, blog, snapchat and tumblr.

How I do things:
  • Twitter is my main place to keep in touch with others, share random happenings and advertise random services, blogs, wishlist, videos or any other promotion.
  • Twitter, snapchat and tumblr - these are updated every time I do a cam show with a summary of how my session went.
  • Snapchat is similar to Twitter with random pictorial updates about random happenings and also as an additional way to alert others when I'm online.
  • My blog is updated once per week and also advertised through Twitter.
  • My website is a central hub for all of this.
It's a lot of work to keep up with this, for sure. However, I just feel it goes along with the territory and part of my job as being a cam girl :)

Yes, my twitter is highly interactive. I find it really easy to do because honestly, I usually enjoy it. the 'same promo type tweets' multiple times a day would be ... potentially negative. The last thing I want to look like on twitter is a spammy account. The idea on twitter is to make yourself look like someone who YOU want to know better... and spend $$ on. Not a spam bot. That doesnt mean I dont necesssarily send the same thing i want noticed a few times a day but I will tend to .. reword the tweets etc.

On twitter I focus on being
- A real person and sharing my life
-Sharing visual content (pics, video previews)
-Asking or incentivising retweets
-Interactivity with members or potential members
-Networking with models
-Enjoying myself.

As far as facebook goes.. No. Not really. Facebook outed me due to a setting I didn't know existed. I deleted everything, and I pretty much wanna vomit whenever I think of that site. EVEN if that hadn't happened their privacy policies, policies to adult content and general... crappyness would make me steer clear. Many of my fans value discretion also and use their facebook with their real name, information and have their family and jobs linked to it. Facebook also lends itself to people sharing religious and political opinions. My fanbase is VERRRRY diverse... and this could cause more problems for me than good.

I've used a forum - as an offshoot of my old set up for my membership site (content was hosted on a forum) - it was never busy enough to really feel like a good community. When i changed the model of my membership club we did away with that.

My room did inform me they have a secret chatroom to plot shenanigans against me?? last night ..mother fuckers.

Great conversation so far!

Have any one tried using email marketing type strategies for promotion or upsales from existing customers? With sales funnels and auto-responder messages and things of that sort?

That all makes sense. It definitely would come off as spammy from the C4S site for sure.
On the ModelCentro message platform, leaving them alone to enjoy the site makes perfect sense too, unless you had an upsell for them or something.

Thanks for your input as well!
Do you find that your messages on twitter get a good amount of activity/clicks to your site?
I assume you use your site analytics to gauge you traffic numbers and sources?
Do you use any scheduler apps/robots for sending your twitter and blog updates?

Thats a very good point on the diverse audience thing for a facebook group. Different values, views and the anonymity situation all point towards staying away from there for any type of group setting.

I am not surprised to here that like minded fans of yours do have their own community though, people seek other people for sure.

What is it your collecting all this market research for?

Zero since I disabled my twitter . I used to have over 20k followers on there but I guess I was bad at it since I was trying to advertise my MV account and had almost no video sales . I was posting pictures and saying when I'll be online on the website I cam on and I didn't see much traffic improvement so I decided to delete it . Now I'm spending more time online , not having to worry about going on twitter and struggling to make sexy pics for it and seeing guys tweeting me cock pics ( ew! ) and I am much happier ^_^ .

Yeah, I'd like to know this too. Seems more than just a friendly question?

I am just very interested in internet marketing as a whole. I find it specifically interesting to see how people in the adult industry work their marketing plans.

The main reason I find it to be so interesting is because the nature of your content basically excludes you from a lot of the typical internet marketing tools (most automated email services, facebook and a lot of other ad services, etc.) Not to mention the fact that there is literally decades worth of free porn already on the internet, yet you guys are creative and hardworking enough to still carve out your niche and support yourselves, whether that be fully or partially, in such an environment.

I spend all day at my cubical job listening to different business and marketing podcasts and if any of those marketers and business gurus had to do their thing in your market without their usual tools, I feel like there are plenty of them that wouldn't be able to do it as well as many of you.

I have a great deal of respect for all those in the adult industry that have the courage and entrepreneurial spirit to be successful.
Plus, I figured that an open conversation about marketing may lend some help or ideas to passersby.
If I am prying too much with my questions, then please accept my apology and thanks for everything you have contributed to the thread so far.

The free porn is not a threat to us. People enjoy cam models because we offer a completely personalised 1 on 1 service and tgere us only ONE of us ;)

Facebook is not a great marketing tool anyway, I have used it to promote various vanilla things and I've always gotten a far greater response simply from my own friends rather than using sponsored posts or event pages.

We have many traditional advertising routes open to us like back page, Craigslist, dropping business cards etc. Even those things which don't allow adult we can still usually get away with short term.

Basically marketing helps to bring in some new customers, and certainly helps find targeted or niche customers, but the traffic is there for us anyway. There is no beating live, interactive porn, that's why we're the biggest grossing part of the adult entertainment industry ;)

I disagree that facebook isn't a great marketing tool. When I was running our shelter's facebook page .. it was crucial. We did so much networking, fundraising, and adoptions starting from that page. I think it depends on the types of business but for non-profits at least... we couldn't survive without it.

I certainly agree that live and interactive is the best there is. Also the traffic is already out there for you for sure. Its the getting them to come back or buy more stuff that I feel like the marketing can help out with though. Do you have an email list for your blog at all? Do you get a lot of comments or email responses for your posts?

Just wanted to say how awesome this thread was and how I enjoyed it's content.

As a newer Model I have used Twitter as my main marketing, but I'm trying to start utilizing Fetlife and Tumblr more.... I have spoken with my studio who said they tried like the devil to utilize Fetlife but it never did anything for traffic - though I feel they may have not been using it to it's potential, especially since I had a personal Fetlife that I used for years with great success (though I deleted it once I started camming to protect my identity)...

Any models using Fetlife specifically, can I ask what you do/use on it for marketing?

what does "seo keyword rich blogs" mean?
what are a few of the niche forums you speak of?
and can you elaborate "etc."
new to cam world and really could use this info
thank you love! :)
