Usually somewhere between flippant and glib.

Caught in a disaster? You'd better hope you're wearing the Emergency Bra. Simply unsnap the bright red bra, separate the cups, and slip it over your head -- one cup for you, and one for your friend.

Dr. Elena Bodnar won an Ignoble Award for the invention last year, an annual tribute to scientific research that on the surface seems goofy but is often surprisingly practical. And now Bodnar has brought the eBra to the public; purchase one online for just $29.95.

It sounds silly, but Bodnar, a Ukraine native who now lives in Chicago, started her medical career studying the effects of the 1986 Chernobyl nuclear plant disaster. If people had had cheap, readily available gas masks in the first hours after the disaster, she said, they may have avoided breathing in Iodine-131, which causes radiation sickness.

The bra-turned-gas masks could have also been useful during the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, and for women caught outside during the dust storms that recently enveloped Sydney, she said.

Wonder if I can find a report that also covers the usefulness of it AS A BRA. Because how useful is an emergency bra that is never worn because it is so uncomfortable?

"Damn! Left my eBra at home because it is so terrible to wear. Right now I sure wish I had some sort of mask for this situation, though."

That's some awkward strap placement on that thing. Reminds me of some of the female Raider armor in Fallout 3. :tongue3:

They may not be made of clouds and marshmallows, but they don't look like they'd be that uncomfortable. And even still, I think they could do well to be a bit more utilitarian, considering the dual purpose. I mean, wouldn't the lace tickle your nose? ^_^;;

Those straps better be movable... how in the world would someone with boobies my size be able to wear that if the strap doesn't go on both cups?

Would they make one in your size if it's to use as a mask? And what would they call it? The family bra? "Save 3-4 members of your family for the price of one!"

This. lulz.

I played with one of my (normal) bras for a bit to figure out what they're did, and from what I gather, it's just a regular bra, with straps from each cup, over the shoulders, and down to the back strap. The difference is, there's ALSO an eye on the inside-top of the cup (where it's shown attached above) for the hook in the shoulder strap, for when it's worn as a mask--each cup is its own mask, and the back strap and shoulder strap of each can re-attach to itself on the other side, to wrap around the back of your head. I don't know how well they would work in practice, but I think the concept is actually quite brilliant...

...and if you still don't get it (I know my description is a bit flaky), you'll only need to play with your own bra for like two minutes to figure it out for yourself. *thumbs up*
