So I just bought the new macbook air today and when I logged in to cam tonight it has the same issue my Imac had in that I can't get the camera to be "open" like my logitech......what I mean is, my logitech I bought and plugged in my imac plays all the noise in my room, users can hear the music, can hear me talk, can hear everything in my room whereas everyone tells me there is no noise until i talk with both the imac and mac air built in cam. Is there any way to change the settings on my new macbook air to allow the built in cam to do this bc sadly my logitech doesnt fit on the macbook air bc its well too thin......any help would be greatly appreciated haha Im online now and my users really wanted a shower show and kept asking me to get a laptop so I finally gave in!

I'm not sure if there is a setting to get the mic sensitivity up in the new MacBook Air models. Looking at my iMac's system preferences, and the sound option. Hitting input does look like it allows you to up the sensitivity of the mic (the slider says input volume), at least on my iMac. Perhaps you can try that and see how it goes? Also note, I am ont on Lion, I am still on Snow Leopard.

My last Mac notebook was a G4 iBook, and that thing had a horrid mic that picked up everything from breathing to my AC unit.

From the sound of it, Apple may have changed the mics to not be as omnidirectional and picking up every little thing in the general area and more focused and only turning on when there is sound moving more or less directly at them. Which, when using iChat, is good. But in your case, as a cam girl, you don't necessarily want everyone to hear silence when you aren't speaking directly at the computer.

Otherwise, I would suggest getting something to put you logitech cam on to use in the meantime.

I understand that the Macbook Air is very thin but I don't understand what you mean by too thin to put your Logitech on it. Doesn't it use standard cable jacks? USB? Can you use another cable?

I have a mac book pro running Lion, as said above, there is an option under Sound in your System Preferences to adjust your input level on the mic, as well as an Use Ambient Noise Reduction box. I would suggest unchecking the box, as you want ambient noise.

Hopefully this works for you.

She means the clip on the logitech won't clip to the screen of the Air, because it wasn't designed for something so thin.

Would it be possible to put something in between the clip and the pooter to hold it in place? Anything with a little bit of grip would surely do it.

Put your logi on a tripod, much better for stability anyway

:-D Okay, I understand now. And yeah, seems to me that clipping the camera onto the computer goes against half the reason for having a separate camera. Tripod! Yes!
