Hello, Hello, Hello!

I've been lurking around the forum for almost 5 months now, quietly gathering feedback and industry insights. And for this I thank you!

But now it's time to bring in front of you the platform I represent: MyDirtyHobby.com

Since our launch, almost 10 years ago, our community has seen an amazing growth on the European market. Making it one of the most successful products in the Mindgeek family. At the time this post is being written the vast majority of our users are primarily from Germany, France and Austria.

To try and keep this initial post as short as possible I'll answer a few questions, I imagine some of you might have.

What options for earning money do I have?

- You can broadcast your webcam (there's no free chat on MyDirtyHobby, any member that joins your room starts paying a minimum of $0.99/min, private and voyeur will obviously be set higher)
- You can sell your videos
- You can sell your pictures
- You can get paid for texting with members via internal messages (we also have a chat app, cause we cool like that)
- You can also refer members to MDH and get a 25% lifetime revenue share from all their purchases.
- Or you can refer other models and get a 10% lifetime revenue share from all their earnings.

What payment methods do you guys have?

- Wire
- Cheque
- Paxum

How much will I get paid?

- 35% REV-share and a Tier System (available for the first 3 months) that can boost your revenue to 50% for all US-based amateurs.
- 25% REV-share to all non-US based.

The Tier System:
Tier 1: +5% - Produce and upload 3 "homemade" style videos each 2 weeks.
Tier 2: +10% - Produce and upload 4 "homemade" style videos each 2 weeks.
Tier 3: +15% - Produce and upload 5 "homemade" style videos each 2 weeks.

To conclude:

We want to ensure all of you that our ears are opened and we are fully dedicated to making this a profitable cooperation.

I will personally handle all incoming questions and feedback.

Why is it only 25% for non US models? Why is there even a difference between US and non US? Can't ever see me working on a site for a crappy 25% of what I have earned. ATM from my 2 main sites I get 64% on one and 50% on the other. Just out of interest why would anyone join your platform when there are other more well known sites that have high traffic and a better payout?

You only have 91 followers on twitter and this tweet in particular looks like you bought likes from bots as all of your other tweets don't have any likes. I can't seem to be able to see any of the "live" webcams on your site. Also it very much troubles me that you have girls put their zip codes in their profiles?! o_O

I worked there once upon a time. I don't remember what the maximum was, but I recall closing my account after learning I could only price my videos up to something like 1/3 of what I priced them on normal clip sites. Even with those prices members would still bitch about the prices being too high. My solo videos are only a buck per minute, so yeah...no.

Also I'd like to add that despite making money there, I couldn't receive it even after the year (normally sites will send the money to you after the end of the year even if it doesn't hit the amount needed for transfer) had ended due to them being in Europe, and laws apparently being different there. Thankfully it wasn't a ton, but definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

I Didn't know that MindGeek owns camsites.

XTube has camming functionality. I'm pretty sure most the PornHub network is rocking whitelabels too.

XHamster just developed StripChat. Really interested to see if that gains traction. XHamster isn't MindGeek, I don't believe at least, but on the subject of tube sites jumping into the camming vertical.

My twitter game is rather weak, isn't it? But in all fairness it is a new account, that just now started to get traction. And about those likes I do have to admit that I, myself, was surprised cause you can rest assured there was no likes-buying involved. Who knows, they might have liked the design.

The live webcams section can be accessed by simply clicking on the "WEBCAMS" button on the left hand side menu. Then all you have to do is click on the desired liveshow. However, since there is no free chat option on our platform, you will not be able to access it without creating an account and purchasing credits.

About the ZIP code. Yes, in the Profile Information section our amateurs have the option to put in their ZIP code. However it will never be shown in it's entirety and it is also not mandatory. Amateurs can choose to show it or not.

The maximum for amateur videos on MyDirtyHobby is 5 cents/second and the minimum is 1.5 cents/second. So for a 10 minute video the price can range from $9 to $30. The minimum threshold for receiving a payment is $50. I would be more then happy to clarify the situation and investigate the case, so if you'd be willing to PM me some info that would help me track down the account I will provide you with a resolution.

Should holler at right decision-makers with Cash4Members and see if they can't add Paxum as a payment option as well

We will be able to deliver your payments via Paxum even if the option is, as you correctly stated, not currently displayed. Please e-mail: support@cash4members.com and my colleagues will help you with it.

Hello BustyBonniex,

Our standard offer is 25%, however since we would like to attract a bigger number of amateur models in the US we decided to run this 35% + Tier System Promotion. Which we feel serves a double purpose:
1. Allows us, as a platform, to be a little more competitive on the US market.
2. Shows the amateur models the benefits up uploading videos on a regular basis.

As for why would anyone join our platform, we feel it is because of the whole concept of MyDirtyHobby. We give you all the tools to create the best available user experience for your fans and get rewarded for it at the same time. Allow me to get into more details on this.

On MyDirtyHobby you can:
- Keep a blog for your fans
- Share fantasy stories
- Charge members for sending you private messages (works on mobile too for iOS, Android or Windows OS). We give three options:
  • Allow users to contact you for free.
  • Charge users for every private message that you replied to. (from 10 cents/message to 100 cents/message)
  • Users that already purchased your pictures, videos or visited you in your chat room can contact you free of charge and members that didn't do anything of the mentioned must pay for every message sent to you.
- Upload a photo gallery and sell it to the members, prices per picture can vary from between 10 cents/picture to 100 cents/picture.
- Upload videos and charge from 1.5 cents/second to 5 cents/second
- Stream your live show and earn money each time a member joins their room with the three available options. (there is no free chat on MyDirtyHobby)
  • Public: Can be set from 99DC/min to 399DC/min.
  • Private: Can be set from 199DC/min to 599DC/min.
  • Voyeur: Can be set from 99DC/min to 599DC/min.
  • Everyone gets 50% payout from the TIPS received from members.

Our broadcasting solution doesn't involve any additional software and it allows for HD streaming directly from the browser.
- Write Scripts and get funded by the community to turn them into videos
- We also let you run your own promotions:
  • You can push your profile and buy a slot for your desired time-frame in our "Featured Amateur" sidebar slot visible to all members.
  • You can also run a "Profile Bonus" promo and give rebates for your content.
  • You can run a "Video Bonus" promo where you can revive some of your old videos by giving a discount for them and pushing them to the VIDEO SALE page.
More then everything we believe in fairness, so you are at all times in control of your content so you can delete it at any time with no fine print to it.

To sum it up, while we do agree there are other websites that do a great job, we also believe that our high member value and longevity in terms of site usage constitutes an strong selling point for amateurs willing to build an audience and monetize it.

25% is low. $30 max for a ten minute video? That's cheaper than what I charge.

I agree with what @Serenity_Tam said: using "hobby" in the name makes me feel weird.

And the fact that an option to insert a zip code in your profile exists AT ALL is troubling. Some newbie sex worker isn't gonna realize what they're doing and make a terrible mistake.

All the reasons you say your site is great is nothing better (and in fact most of it is worse) than every other clip site. I don't see anything that sets you apart as being worth it.

(I have other issues but these few are enough to make me say "hell no.")

Sorry bub, but I'd rather just cut my losses. If your site is seen great by others than I'm sure it'll make a turn-around and blossom. There are too many cons vs pros, and the fact that I couldn't label my clips easily the first time (what should have been a simple thing to do) along with the percentage and frankly everything else mentioned in this thread...I feel I'm doing better without MDH.

You should be offering the same to all your models regardless of where they come from 25% is pathetic at best, and even more of a slap in the face when some girls can potentially get 50% just based on location. I repeat what I said earlier why would anyone join. There are no benefits that I can see and your payout is well below the norm.

It always surprises me that people are constantly trying to recruit us for their cam sites, studios, adult start-up, etc, but no one has ever actually asked (at least not that I've ever seen) what it is that we would like. Or how we, your potential employees, feel about what it is you are making.

If I was making a business where camgirls will be making me money, I'd do a ton of polls, open asks, or at least something that shows I take camgirl needs and expectations into consideration.

For example, I feel most cam girls would object to having "Hobby" in the title as it really sends the wrong message and kind of belittles our work. This could have been avoided by using us a focus group early on. This is the most active cam girl forum that I know of and I feel we could be a great resource to developers if anyone ever bothered to ask.

Side note: I only ever see your pop ups on my non-porn laptop. They are the only pop-ups that break through my pop-up blocker and only appear when I am doing really normal boring vanilla stuff. So, on the one hand, I've heard of your site, so yay name recognition, on the other hand, I don't think most people enjoy random porn pop-ups. I know I don't.

Am the only one that hates the use of the word 'amateur'?

I mean... I've been in this business for nearly 2 years. Yeah... I'm not brazzers level but I'm certainly not a fucking amateur. And I don't want my camsite to call me that either.

Probably just me tho...

That's all... carry on....

I mean, I hated it at first. I've been a sex worker for four years and around year two I had the same sentiment.

But it was when I learned to detach "amateur" from its common meaning that I realized it's not a "bad" word. It's a descriptive word that says I run my own business and do everything on my own, and I'm proud of that.

Learning to separate the "amateur" we think of as "inexperienced" from the "amateur" we mean in porn (aka us clip makers who do indie porn by ourselves) was really beneficial for me.

However, I will never be ok with calling it a "hobby." lmao no this is my career and i'm a professional and damn good at my job

Good point.

I agree that we are amateur in a sense that we do our indie porn thing. And I kinda seem to understand the meaning in this particular industry...

But if I end up on a cam site and they have the 'Become an amateur' button to the right hand side, my immediate reaction is: 'How's about you fuck off, take your 25 amateur hobby percent and shove it deep up your arse?'

Looks like a no show girls. As per answer pointless questions we don't want answers to. Lurker for 5 months bb? You obviously learnt jack shit a wasted 5 months if I have to be honest

If he had used those five months to ask us questions while developing his product rather than just lurking and assuming he knows what we need, we'd all probably be having a much more positive talk right now.

Looking at this from a customer perspective since I like buying videos as much as live streams, unless I'm understanding this incorrectly, I don't see the appeal of your site.

1) 25-35% model revenue, to me that says I'm paying out the ass so that a model can get a decent payout, also means I'll be falling back to external payment systems to reduce the gap
2) Yes videos are lower priced but this tier system sounds like its encouraging production of lower quality content just to pump out 3+ vids every 2 weeks, also hampered by the price per time constraint.
3) No way to see a model without paying for chat. Combine that with the fact that a lot of profile pics seen on your front page look like they've been ripped from elsewhere, I'm wary of another streamate botting situation. Then there's the increased possibility of being the only viewer in the room (no that doesn't appeal to me)
4) Related to #3 and it pisses me off, but while briefly browsing your site I saw that one of Rosbunny's vids is uploaded for sale under a different unknown model. 100% sure since A) I've been following Ros for years and B) I'm watching the original vid right now. By encouraging this whole video upload tier scheme and members not seeing a model live until they log in and pay, what kind of verification measure do you have for stolen videos/live streams as well as reporting fakes accounts? I left streamate because they did zero to stop stolen streams while I was there, how do I know it won't happen here as well?

I know you say you've been around for 10 years now and I've seen your name via annoying popups, but like the others have said, its like this site was built with no feedback to improve the design.

Never seen you before (even in popups) and I don't know why you would promote at a message board that wants models to achieve the maximum profit for their work.

I just don't understand how lurking for 5 months didn't give you that impression. Your lurking didn't tell you this? If I was a model I would not want to be with you because you seem dense (but you look cool with the beard and hair and the shirt).

Ok answer me this why would anybody work for you with a 25% payout and most likely far less traffic. What makes your site so good that models would work for a 25% payout as opposed to the standard 50%?

Hey CutieHasBooty,

I get your point of view, but to be honest – there are some pretty good reasons!

On top of the standard payout you can easily access additional lifetime percentages:
+25% revenue share for members you bring in – LIFETIME. Meaning you earn every time they purchase content, ever!
+10% for every amateur you recruit – LIFETIME. Meaning you earn on every content they sell, ever!

Also let me clear up why we’re going with a small seeming percentage – it’s really easy, but makes total sense:
25% of A LOT is MORE
than
40% of way LESS ;)

Please let me put this into more perspective, besides the following benefits: With only a 25% at MyDirtyHobby instead of higher percentages elsewhere - amateurs that managed to build their audience earn between 15k and 20k on a monthly basis!

So, our platform does not only has tons of traffic, it’s actually the world’s biggest amateur community for a reason:
- You get paid for every member interaction
- Members are very dedicated, we have sensational member life spans
- All amateurs receive 50% rev-share from the Tips they receive
- You have outstanding opportunities to promote yourself within the community and become recognized – not just relying on lick or some algorithms (All content is treated equally and everyone has a fair shot)
- While we’re global - you can sell your content to a mostly European based community (primarily from Germany and Austria) with a very high member value.
- Again: These are high value members which you can't really find anywhere else.
- (See above) You have tools available to market yourself and not just rely on luck or placement algorithms, all content is treated equally and gets the same fair shot.

Also: We cater to all types of amateurs. If you only want to build a passive revenue from your video content, if you only want to chat via text with users and earn money (works on mobile too: iOS, Android and Windows), if you only want to sell your pictures or if you only want to do live webcamming we offer some of the easiest tools available out there and an unique market.

Obviously our model is different and can look off-putting at first – I totally get it – but please understand we genuinely feel with the aforementioned advantages and benefits – MyDirtyHobby has something in store for nearly all amateurs out there!

Amateurs that manage to build their audience? That doesn't sound great. Sounds like that's a very small percentage of your models if even any that get that. And 15k to 20k a month sounds a little far fetched to me. A lot of sites say things like that and we ALL know that it is a tiny amount of people that manage that never mind with only 25%. I would love to see the hard evidence of your claims. If you could show us that instead of just words then it would be a lot more beneficial. How many adverts for cam girls or content producers do we see on a daily basis that make it sound like this is something that a lot of us earn. In reality it's not. Your pitching to seasoned cam models here, not girls or guys that know nothing about the industry and can be fooled by the hopes of earning that a month.

As a company we understand there is no such thing as negative feedback therefor thank you all for interacting and letting us know what you feel.

We do try to adapt to the international market and it's the community that will show us the road to get there.

Because of the size of the company, change will be more come at a slower pace but it will surely come.

And the percentages we are offering now are not like this due to ill-will or miss consideration for your hard work, there is a whole analysis behind them based on cost of member acquisition and profitability.

I would now like to address some of the issues expressed so I can make you rest assured.

ooking at this from a customer perspective since I like buying videos as much as live streams, unless I'm understanding this incorrectly, I don't see the appeal of your site.

1) 25-35% model revenue, to me that says I'm paying out the ass so that a model can get a decent payout, also means I'll be falling back to external payment systems to reduce the gap

There’s no other aspect to percentages on our end but to cover running costs. There are a lot more factors then one might think – it’s not simple as 25-35% for models and the rest for the product.
Pricing is completely up to models themselves and from other member feedback in general it’s deemed fair.

2) Yes videos are lower priced but this tier system sounds like its encouraging production of lower quality content just to pump out 3+ vids every 2 weeks, also hampered by the price per time constraint.

This is a rather subjective view. Take Youtube for example – 1 or 2 videos per week is a given standard, not to loss of quality. It just keeps uploaders relevant or rather gives fans content regularly.
We encourage amateurs to run with this best practice as it helps them make others aware of their content. From feedback and experience there is not quality content ensured nonetheless.

We do encourage members to point out “fake profiles” – there are however very few as every model has to upload verification documents which are proven by our team one by one. Once the documents are manually approved models can start uploading content. Even for any other person that appears in the pictures, videos, livestream along side her, the model is required to upload verification documents. This is what is commonly referred as being "2257 compliant".

4) Related to #3 and it pisses me off, but while briefly browsing your site I saw that one of Rosbunny's vids is uploaded for sale under a different unknown model. 100% sure since A) I've been following Ros for years and B) I'm watching the original vid right now.

Please simply give feedback to us so we can shed light on any issues or take care of them.

What you are referring to is a paywall – a very common tool which you can see in the gaming industry for example. From our tests it did not hurt members joining our community so there shouldn’t be issues here. If its not to your personal taste however it becomes a subjective matter again :/

As for security in terms of authenticity let me say again with more detail:

We here at MyDirtyHobby, not only that we take security very seriously but we have an entire Compliance Department running 24/7 that screens and vets manually every piece of content that goes online.

Every model uploads her verification documents, this also includes a Shot-ID (a picture where the amateur holds her ID in one hand and a piece of paper in the other hand that writes "MyDirtyHobby + Selected Username + Current Date), once the documents are manually approved the amateur can start uploading her content. For any other person that appears in the pictures, videos, livestream along side her, the model is required to upload verification documents.

The account holder needs to be present in all uploaded videos or pictures, we do not allow video content to go online that does not depict the verified account holder.

We can’t prosecute any illegal uploaders outside of our community as we don’t own the rights to the models’ content. However, if we’re asked, we can give advice.

3) No way to see a model without paying for chat. Then there's the increased possibility of being the only viewer in the room (no that doesn't appeal to me)
It's like constant group/private show. For me it's less fun, 'straight to the business' type of chat.

As Adrian wrote, you have to upload your ID and photo of you holding sign with your name. As I can recall, 4 years ago photo was published on the profile page (without ID, of course).

It was my first site, I still have my profile up but I want to delete it as soon as I get paid. During those 4 years I made payout once

Trying to figure out why you're marketing a site meant for "amateurs" to a forum full of people who do this for a paid living already.
(Amateur would most often refer to someone who does something on an unpaid basis.)
