So I need four songs. two to play before service, and two at the end. It's gonna be at a church, but it's just family (and the pastor). I knew exactly what to play for my husband's memorial, but I don't know what I should choose for my mom's. Sound of Silence is gonna' be the first song, it's her favorite, and the lyrics and tempo are defiantly appropriate for the situation. I need 3 more... her favorite stuff is hippie music. I need some ideas before this Friday. Anything good to come to mind???
Anyone???

You could go with more Simon & Garfunkel if that's the type of music your mother liked. There's Bridge over Troubled Waters, Scarborough Fair, and perhaps something by the Beatles like Yesterday or Let it Be would suit as well.

I'm partial to And When I Die by Blood, Sweat & Tears, but that might be a little too up-tempo.

Huh, The Beatles... can't believe I didn't even think of them. My mom used to tell me how when she was a kid, she had posters of The Beatles ALL OVER her room. So much in fact that the "eyes" started getting to her, and she started to feel embarrassed undressing in front of them, so she ended up changing her clothes in her closet after a while. LOL Yeah definitely must add a Beatles song to the list. Let it Be is a good one, but still undecided.

THANK YOU EVERYONE 4 all the help. I think my brain might be on overload or something, cause the creative brain cells don't seem to be functioning right now.

^^^ Exactly what I had in mind when I saw the tittle.

This would be a great story to tell if you are doing a eulogy. It's the memories likes this that will keep your mum in your heart forever.
Stay strong Poker_Babe, my mum passed on the 02 Oct 2010.

She is a gorgeous woman Poker_Babe, you look a lot like her. I wish I had a chance to meet her, if she was anything like you, she must have been a lot of fun to be around. I am sorry for your loss.

Thank you. Yeah my mom was quite a character. Tough as nails, and didn't take no shit from anyone.
She was a single parent and raised my older brother and I all on her own w/o any help from either one of our fathers. She knew how to work on cars and motorcycles, was a long haul truck driver for a while. She was a talented artist, could draw, sketch, & paint beautiful pictures. She was even a board certified cosmetologist in her younger years. She even did hair and make up for a few stars back in the early 70s. AND ALSO USED TO BE A TEXAS HOLD EM' CARD DEALER!! <---- My personal favorite. LOL

Sure will miss her.

Kind of late, but a few suggestions, some on the cheesy side, others not so much, I think:

Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks (yeah, pretty high on the cheesy side)
Spirit in the Sky by Norman Greenbaum (kinda obvious, and maybe only appropriate if you're particularly Christian)
Morning has Broken by Cat Stevens (especially touching if you've seen Harold & Maude)
And You and I by Yes (All or part of it, since it's kind of long)
Onward by Yes (Shorter and slower, and really a love song, but still appropriate)
Ripples by Genesis (Also a little on the long side)

Several Beatles options if you wanted to go with something other than Let It Be (which is a good choice, I think):
The Long and Winding Road
Across the Universe
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
In My Life
Free As a Bird
The Inner Light or Within You Without You (both a bit more psychedelic)
Tomorrow Never Knows (Also psychedelic, though I would suggest the Phil Collins cover, since it's slower and feels more spacey)

Hey guys, sadly I need some ideas for some appropriate memorial songs again. My best friend passed away from scleroderma last week, and I've been asked to put a a slide show together on dvd to play at her memorial service. I need a couple of songs but my mind is drawing a blank. I've googled "songs about death" and "songs to play at funeral" but I still haven't found anything I like. Anyone have any ideas??? She really liked country music, so I'm thinking that genre would be the best.
thanks guys.

won't play... :(

Whoops, this should be it!

Also, this one is kinda sweet. My mom played it for my sisters and I after telling us that our great-grandmother had died.
