Today in my newspaper I saw this article on Only Fans and I don't want to hold it back on you people. It gives a pretty good insight of what is going on in the world of sex and commerce. Because it's a newspaper article I had to include the writer and buro. The article was written in another language so I had to translate it, sorry if it sound weird sometimes. At the end of the article I have put some questions.

The site Onlyfans became very rich with sex, but now wants to get rid of that image. Sex and commerce, it remains a dirty combination.

The lockdowns have also produced winners. Onlyfans, for example, which registered 1.85 million new subscribers last year in the five weeks following March 1. The site provides content creators or providers with an online platform to meet their fans. Read: To sell them exclusive photos and videos, or strip or play a role at their request. Those fans pay a monthly subscription for this, usually between five and thirty euros. That rate is determined by the provider, who gives 20 percent to Onlyfans.

There are famous people on the site like Chris Brown and Cardi B. Or the actress Bella Thorne, who was making $ 2 million in a week when she announced she was opening an account. There are chefs and personal trainers. But the vast majority are sex workers; those were also the first providers on Onlyfans in 2016. The joke was that Onlyfans is the Instagram Live where nipples were allowed. The site has now grown so explosively that it can indeed launch itself as a competitor to Instagram Live. Then those sex workers have to go.

With the commercial growth, Onlyfans is being followed more critically. When Bhad Bhabie announced this month that she would open an account on her eighteenth birthday - the minimum age for providers - she raided a million dollars in six hours. (If you've never heard of the "rap star," she made her debut as an unruly 13-year-old with Dr. Phil , making her one of the many " celebs " on Only fans who are known from reality TV.)

That sparked the discussion whether Onlyfans should not raise the minimum age for content creators to 21 years any better. To which that discussion immediately went beside the point: you can legally also go into prostitution at the age of eighteen, or join the army, or take out an unfavorable student loan. It was also about that million dollars. But not about the unease that had led to the discussion: that tens of thousands of men have been horny for a young teenager on Instagram for years.

For the sex workers on Onlyfans, Bhad Bhabie is just unfair competition: she doesn't need the site to survive like she does. But they don't ask unfairly about celebs promoting their Onlyfans account on Tiktok. "That is an app for and by children," says one of them in Rolling Stone . "I'm not ashamed of what I do, but I don't know if minors can estimate how this work might affect your future jobs and relationships."

Once again it becomes clear how little the sexual revolution has really changed. Young people are allowed to use their sexuality as they please, but unless they were already famous, they will also be skewed about it

Nudes4Sale , a BBC 3 documentary, also found underage providers on Onlyfans. Some were blinded by the reports of Bella Thorne and the vast sums being talked about. But an average content creator on Onlyfans - that's 700,000 now, 350,000 a year ago - earns $ 180 a month. 75 percent of the money goes to the top 10 percent of the accounts on the site. Onlyfans tightened the rules: providers must submit a selfie of themselves upon registration with proof of identity that shows that they are eighteen.

The better kind of pervert

"I knew it was a porn site," content creator Claudia tells The Spectator . "But I thought I'd find a better kind of pervert on Onlyfans than on Pornhub and stay pretty anonymous." Some providers nevertheless got stalkers after them, or their private details were disclosed. One of Claudia's 'fans' posted images he plucked from her screen on a porn site. She filed a complaint with Onlyfans, but the site did not respond.

For a long time, Onlyfans' position has been that they enable 'safe' sex work that you can do from home. And that Onlyfans does not interfere with the content of your account, such as Instagram, where the terms of use became stricter again in December for everything that concerns nudity. Onlyfans gave providers, especially women, full power to use or market their sexuality as they wish and reap the profit themselves.

The joke was long that Onlyfans is the Instagram Live where nipples were allowed

A prostitute or call girl is indeed more physically at risk, but she can stop her job if she wants to. Not a nude model, experienced the former topless model Jess Davies. In another BBC3 documentary, When Nudes Are Stolen , she tells how she has had to explain to a duped man about a hundred times that it was not she who asked him for money, but a catfisher using ten-year-old photos.

The practice of bundling and selling photos of a woman online for catfishing, blackmail, or pornography is little subtly known as e-whoring . Davies finds in the documentary one of the suppliers of such scammers: a high school student who, armed with some facial recognition software, scoured the internet at the age of fifteen. "Revenge porn was the easiest," he says casually. Or camgirls - like the providers on Onlyfans. Many countries do not yet have laws against this abuse, or only laws for photos taken without permission. The cam girls and boys cannot start another life, their bare bodies are sold endlessly.

Onlyfans tightens up the rules after every reveal. But that's probably less for the controversy than because it now makes more money from TV, movie or music stars than from porn stars. The highest earning provider at the moment is Blac Chyna. The ex of rapper Tyga, who is the first man in fourth place, is said to earn 16.6 million euros a month on Onlyfans. In the top three are Bella Thorne and Cardi B, the top ten is closed by fitness instructor Jem Wolfie. It's a feast of pumped-up muscle bundles and breasts sprayed on, but it remains soft. Mia Khalifa is the only porn star in the top ten.

While the sex workers, who previously had to leave Snapchat Premium or Tumblr, turn to alternatives such as Just For Fans, it shows once again how little the sexual revolution has really changed. Young people are allowed to use their sexuality however they want, but unless they were already very famous, like Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion when they made 'WAP', they will also be viewed skewed on it. The fact that more men's bodies are being sold now than before is probably not the emancipation that feminists and sexual advocates had in mind. You can show the nipples that you have to cover on Instagram on Onlyfans - for money. That goes to media companies, and then to shady figures and fifteen-year-olds monetizing your old photos.

Here are my questions:
do you notice anything of the fame of Only Fans in your daily business?
do you now have less fans or just more fans due to the popularity of OF?
did you experience any kind of abuse about your photo's, video's published on OF?
does this article scares you to post anything on OF or does it just encourage you?

Feel free to put as much as comment , it can only serve as information for newcomers .
thank you.

I read this article and personally having no success with my OnlyFans so I am not that interested in the platform. I think more people are like me and not profiting off of OnlyFans than the few that are doing well and having some sustainability on the website. Those that are threatened by celebrities have legitimacy but I also feel that many of those individuals have other platforms that they could earn on so that only being on OFs is not smart for any of us ... better to be on multiple sites than just one.
