Isle of the Dead (1945) is one of producer Val Lewton's horror films made for RKO Radio Pictures. The movie had a script inspired by the painting Isle of the Dead by Arnold Böcklin, which appears behind the title credits, though the film was originally titled "Camilla" during production. (Another of Lewton's films, I Walked With a Zombie, has the painting hung in the main room of the movie.) It was written by frequent Lewton collaborator Ardel Wray; directed by Mark Robson, the fourth of five pictures he directed for Lewton; and starred Boris Karloff, the first of three pictures he made with Lewton (although the second released).

In tirn? Either I don't know wtf tirn means or turn is misspelled and every revision since the original (9 versions total) has included the mistake.

An apeirohedron is a polyhedron having infinitely many faces. Like an ordinary polyhedron it forms a surface with no border. But where an ordinary polyhedral surface has no border because it folds round to close back on itself, an apeirohedron has no border because its surface is unbounded.

Solar eclipse of April 19, 2004

A partial solar eclipse took place on Monday, 19 April 2004. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between Earth and the Sun, thereby totally or partially obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth. A partial solar eclipse occurs in the polar regions of the Earth when the center of the Moon's shadow misses the Earth.
It was largely visible over the south Atlantic Ocean and north shores of Antarctica, most prominently the Antarctic Peninsula. The eclipse was deep enough to be seen from a large portion of southern Africa, with over 50% totality at Cape Town, South Africa approximately 4:10 PM. However, the eclipse remained visible to cities such as Harare, Maseru, Durban, and Bloemfontein, although to a much lesser extent.
The greatest eclipse of the Sun took place over a nigh inaccessible strip of ocean off the Antarctic coast; the maximum point displayed 73.5% totality, as compared to Cape Town's 51% totality.

Midtown Madness is a racing game developed for Windows by Angel Studios (now Rockstar San Diego) and published by Microsoft. A demo version was released via download on February 1, 1999, and the entire game was released on February 27, 1999. A sequel, Midtown Madness 2, was released in April 2000, and the final addition to the series, Midtown Madness 3 was released in June 2002 for the Xbox. Set in Chicago, the goal of Midtown Madness is to win street races and obtain new cars.

Unlike some racing games, which restrict the player to a race track, Midtown Madness offers an open world recreation of Chicago. This setting was developed by Microsoft and described as offering "an unprecedented degree of freedom to drive around in a virtual city".[1] Players can explore the city via one of several modes, and can determine the weather and traffic conditions for each race. The game supports multiplayer races over a local area network or the Internet. Overall, the game received positive reviews from gaming websites;[2][3]

Taxi zum Klo is a 1981 film written by, directed by, and starring Frank Ripploh. The story of a schoolteacher and the contrasts between his public and private lives, the film documents gay culture in West Berlin in the period in which it was made. Ripploh has stated that much of the film was autobiographical. The name literally means Taxi to the Toilet (or "Taxi to the John", etc.)

Heimatfilm (German pronunciation: [ˈhaɪmatˌfɪlm], German for "homeland-film"; German plural: Heimatfilme) is the name given to a film genre that was popular in Germany, Switzerland and Austria from the late 1940s to the early 1970s. They were usually shot in the Alps, the Black Forest or the Lüneburg Heath and always involved the outdoors. Heimatfilms were noted for their rural settings, sentimental tone and simplistic morality, and centered around love, friendship, family and non-urban life. Also, the polarity between old and young, tradition and progress, rural and urban life was articulated. The typical plot structure involved both a "good" and "bad" guy wanting a girl, conflict ensuing, and the "good" guy ultimately triumphing to win the girl to the happiness of everyone and the children.

"Heimat" is a German word that can be translated as home, homeland, home soil or fatherland (each having a different emphasis and connotation).

English-language features that could qualify as Heimatfilme include Lassie Come Home, Spencer's Mountain, and Where the Red Fern Grows.[citation needed] In a broader sense, it is possible to view the Western-genre as the American counterpart to the German Heimatfilm.[citation needed]

The genre originally came to life following the devastation of Germany in World War II, suggesting a whole, romantic world untouched by the hazards of real life (i.e. war damage and subsequent rebuilding); this remained popular from the mid-1940s to the 1960s. The Berlin-based studio Berolina Film was the driving force behind the cycle of Heimatfilm.[1]

The trilogy of films called Heimat by the German director Edgar Reitz (1984, 1992, and 2004) are partly an ironic reference to this type of sentimental film.

An ocean-bottom seismometer (OBS) is a seismometer that is designed to record the earth motion under oceans and lakes from man-made sources and natural sources.

Sensors at the sea floor are used to observe acoustic and seismic events. Seismic and acoustic signals may be caused by different sources, by earth quakes and tremors as well as by artificial sources. Computing and analyzing the data yields information about the kind of source and, in case of natural seismic events, the geophysics and geology of the sea floor and the deeper crust. The deployment of OBS along a profile will give information about the deep structure of the Earth's crust and upper mantle in offshore areas. OBS may be equipped with a maximum of a three-component geophone in addition to a hydrophone, and thus it needs a capacity of more than 144 Mbytes, which would be the minimum for an adequate MCS profiling. In a typical survey, the instruments should be operational for several days, which requires a data storage capacity of more than 500 Mbyte. Other experiments, such as tomographic investigations within a 3D-survey or seismological monitoring, demand even larger capacities.

May I also suggest posting a link to the wiki page you got to, that way if anyone wants to know more about a subject they can get to it easier? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocean-bottom_seismometer

Robert Stirling Newall

Robert Stirling Newall FRS (27 May 1812 – 21 April 1889) was a Scottish engineer and astronomer. Married to Mary, daughter of Hugh Lee Pattinson, FRS; father of Hugh Newall, FRS, astronomer. Born in Dundee, he was befriended by civil engineer L.D.B. Gordon. In 1838, whilst studying at the Freiburg School of Mines, Germany, Gordon visited the mines at Clausthal, and met Wilhelm Albert. Impressed by what he saw, he wrote to Newall, urging him to "Invent a machine for making wire ropes". On receipt of Gordon's letter, Newall designed a wire rope machine, consisting of four strands and four wires to a strand. On Gordon's return to the UK in 1839, he formed a partnership with Newall and Charles Liddell, registering R.S. Newall and Company in Dundee. On 17 August 1840, Newall took out a patent for "certain improvements in wire rope and the machinery for making such rope."[1]

Bacterial vaginosis

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) or very uncommonly vaginal bacteriosis is a disease of the vagina caused by bacteria. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), risk factors for BV include douching and having new or multiple sex partners, although it is unclear what role sexual activity plays in the development of BV. BV is caused by an imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora and is often confused with yeast infection (candidiasis) or infection with Trichomonas vaginalis (trichomoniasis), which are not caused by bacteria.

The most common symptom of BV is an abnormal homogeneous off-white vaginal discharge (especially after vaginal intercourse) that may be accompanied by an unpleasant (usually fishy) smell. This malodorous discharge coats the walls of the vagina, and is usually without significant irritation, pain, or erythema (redness), although mild itching can sometimes occur. By contrast, the normal vaginal discharge will vary in consistency and amount throughout the menstrual cycle and is at its clearest at ovulation - about 2 weeks before the period starts. Some practitioners claim that BV can be asymptomatic in almost half of affected women, though others argue that this is often a misdiagnosis.

Dick Offer
Richard Frederick Offer (1909 - 6 February 2007) was an English rower who won Silver Goblets at Henley Royal Regatta and a silver medal at the 1938 British Empire Games.
Offer was born at Hampton Wick, the son of Henry John Offer and his wife Vera Jennie Burgoine. His maternal grandfather, Alfred Burgoine, was a boat designer who built one of Queen Victoria’s Royal Barges and a motor launch that held the world water speed record. He was educated at Tiffin School where he began rowing. He joined Kingston Rowing Club in 1929, where his brothers Tom and Jack Offer were already members.[1]
Offer excelled at sculling, in particular partnering his brother Jack in the double sculls. They also took part in skiffing, being members of The Skiff Club. They won the Gentlemen's Double Sculls at the Skiff Championships Regatta in 1930, 1931, 1932, 1933 and 1935. In 1936 the pair won Silver Goblets at Henley Royal Regatta.[2] Two years later they were selected to compete in the 1938 British Empire Games. Offer worked in an insurance company in the City of London and had to take unpaid leave to be able to compete. In spite of the difficulties in maintaining training during the six-week sea voyage to Australia they won the silver medal in the double sculls event.[3]
Offer was also a sailor with a boat on the south coast, and later at the Thames Sailing Club at Surbiton where he owned a Thames Rater which was designed and built by his grandfather. He also played rugby for the Old Tiffinians and at County level in the winter months.[1]
At the start of World War II, Offer was a volunteer fire-watcher on the River Thames until he gained his Commission in the Royal Navy and was employed on convoy escorts. At the D-Day Normandy landings he was a commander of tank landing craft LCT708,[4] and lead the landings on Gold Beach.
After the war, Offer returned to rowing at Kingston RC, where he competed until the 1950s. He then began coaching at Kingston and at Tiffin School, where he inspired successes in regattas including Henley and coached future international rowers. He played a major part in developing Kingston RC's headquarters at Canbury Gardens, Kingston and helped in the running of Kingston Regatta. He became president of Kingston Rowing Club in 1993.[5]

Brawl respectively. It was released on the Wii and the Nintendo DS handheld in October 2009, and is the first official video game of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.[1]
Mario & Sonic on the Wii and DS is a collection of events based on the Olympic Winter Games. Players can assume the role of a Mario or Sonic character while competing against the others in these events. The game features all of the playable characters that were present in its predecessor, as well as four new characters.[1][4]
A third installment, named Mario & Sonic at the London 2012 Olympic Games, was released for the Wii on November 13, 2011 in Europe, and it was developed for the Nintendo 3DS. The 3DS counterpart was released in February 2012.[5]

The Fuld-Gilad-Herring Academy of Competitive Intelligence is a first of its kind global educational organization solely dedicated to bringing professional training to the then fledgling field of competitive intelligence (CI).[1] Established in 1996, the Academy has expanded its training to thousands of managers from 58 countries and six continents at its campuses in Cambridge, MA and Brussels, Belgium. The Academy is the only CI-dedicated institution to be externally accredited by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET).[2] It grants the Competitive Intelligence Professional (CIP) certification based on a 9-course program, including a course in ethics and a pioneering course in business war gaming.[3][4] To be certified, managers must complete the required coursework and pass a certification exam. To accommodate managers whose main interest is in using CI tools and managers working as CI professionals, the Academy offers two levels of certification: a basic CIP-I, and an advanced CIP-II. The Academy is currently the largest training institute in its field.[5]

im sorry im breaking the stream ignore me.

 It is very common. If you have a vagina you will most likely have this at one time or another in your life. It generally will clear up on its own even if untreated. The picture is just epithelial cells (skin cells) that have bacteria adhering to them. They are called clue cells at that point and they use that as a diagnostic tool when those are seen. Most times when you get your pelvic exam the doctor will collect a little sample to look at under the microscope to look for this and other possible problems. The more you know. :thumbleft:

Area codes 240 and 301

North American area codes 240 and 301 are telephone area codes for the western half of Maryland. They serve Maryland's portion of the Greater Washington, D.C. metro area, portions of southern Maryland, and all points northwest of Washington. This includes the communities of Cumberland, Frederick, Hagerstown, and Gaithersburg.

The main area code, 301, was one of the original area codes established in 1947. It originally served the entire state, even though it is home to two very large metropolitan areas, Baltimore and the suburbs of Washington, D.C.. The North American Numbering Plan Administrator wanted to keep the number of "clicks" to a minimum for densely populated areas given the rotary dialing technology in use at the time. Though codes as short as 5 clicks were possible for area codes covering just a city or portion of a state, area codes covering an entire state always had 0 as the middle digit, for a minimum of 13 clicks. Maryland was assigned one of the shortest full-state area codes, with 14 clicks (3+10+1).

From 1947 to 1991, it was possible for telephone users on the Maryland side of the Washington metropolitan area to dial any number in the region with only seven digits. This was possible because the Maryland side of the metro shares an LATA with Northern Virginia (in area code 703) and the District itself. Every number on the Maryland and Virginia sides of the metro was also given a "hidden" number in the District's area code 202, essentially making 202 an overlay for the entire metro. This ended in 1991, since this arrangement meant no prefixes could be duplicated in the Washington metro area and exchanges on both sides of the Potomac River were running out of numbers.
