I'm new to being a Cam Model and need everyone's advice on what social media to open for my model self? Twitter seems to be popular but what about FB pages and IG? And tumblr? What do general posts look like from Cam girls? I'm super curious!

Go with Twitter. Most of the cam girls who do use Facebook use it strictly for their personal life outside of camming (friends and family...people who know you and your REAL name and all) and do not want their Facebook accounts connected with their camming/adult industry activities. So no, I do not think you should use Facebook for your cam girl stuff. Use Twitter for that.

Twitter, tumblr, instagram and snapchat are great for camgirls. I'll break it down as my opinions as to what to post on each one..

Twitter: Times when you're coming on cam, typically including a picture and link to your cam.. Status updates on your life, sharing deals, and what I would consider essentially a Facebook.

Facebook is not very sex friendly, and can give you hell because of the way they operate. My personal Facebook was reported and basically deactivated because I didn't put my REAL full name on it. I just had my first shortened name on it. They do not allow you to use fake names and if you get caught they will try to force you to change it and submit your ID to prove who you are. Also if people report you they don't even pay attention to what they're doing and it's just a mess.

Tumblr: It's awesome. Basically you post things like your own advertisement for your videos, photo sets, items on sale in your stores AND re-blogging things that you find interesting, especially sex and promoting your sexual art is the key. In my opinion.

Instagram: Kind of like Tumblr, but less advertisey more artsy. And good for you to express your own artsy side through photography. Some girls use it for promotion, but I don't think it's super productive. On my personal instagram no one ever reads my captions, they only compliment me or beg for nudes in DM. And that's just me posting my real self.

Snapchat: typically bought, would be the more sexy alternative to instagram. Although I hear they are not sex friendly (MMMMMMMHMMMMM) be careful with that one. But definitely sell it if you plan on posting sexy stuff.

And YouTube is a good one for promotion, but not the greatest because people will use it for a quick fix, so gotta be a bit careful not to post too sexy of videos. (But you can also monetize those videos ^-^)

Another thing I've seen girls do with tumblr is have a promotional tumblr, then a private tumblr people buy to view exclusive and sexy ass pictures. But it doesn't have to be that way, I'd just recommend that. BUT, people can remove your captions to use your photos for personal gain, which is scummy, so watermark your photos and make a statement saying you will block someone if they remove your caption.

I hope this helps. I only use twitter, snap and tumblr. But I've observed a lot of other girls using the others. And if you need any in depth examples of these, just check out the girls in this forum. Most of us have view-able Tumblrs and twitters and such. :) Take care.

Thank you this actually helped a lot ^^ I already have a snapchat and had two or three people buy it already sometimes I don't know what to give them but I try and tend to get a good response. I made a twitter but now I guess I know what to put on there. Thank you so much for the help!

No problem! I love helping people. Also don't feel obligated to allow people to direct msg or private msg you whatever it is on snapchat because you can get spammed bad. A lot of girls just allow members to view their stories or whatever. I don't hardly know how snapchat works I'm just told this by other camgirls. Also, you should get verified on this website. Models only section will help you out tremendously.

Facebook isn't sex work friendly. And you still have to have an account attached to the fan page. I'm sure she wouldn't want that to be her personal. @Guy

I use a lot of social media!
Twitter is definitely #1 for most sex workers.
Tumblr (You can check out mine! carmitabonita.tumblr.com )is very useful and promo stuff and gaining new customers.
I had a facebook fan page but never used it much I'm not even sure if it's still active. I think men prefer their facebook to just be family/friend and their porn social media separate.
Instagram is more just for fun for me since it seems on there to be mainly gawking dudes or trolls and not so sex worker friendly. (Photos getting reported, more strict nudity rules etc)
I think the only social media I would say that's been really helpful is twitter for camming and tumblr for video sales.

Cool Cool thank you for all your help ^^ Twitter is definitely the way to go then and tumblr as a second

Reddit is a good one. But Facebook makes it blatantly obvious that they are not supporters of sex work. And they state in their terms and conditions that you are prohibited from sharing pictures that are too sexual. People do it, but people report it so much that it's not worth the risk. I've been reported for sharing a photo that had part of my bra in it. I only have a total of maybe 7 pictures on my Facebook. It can be that bad. @Guy Not going to lie, I've seen really, really bad shit on Facebook, like child pornography and they wouldn't remove it. But I know girls who've had their photos removed for petty stuff, like cleavage. Facebook is like the chaturbate of social media.

A social media peripheral is ask.fm where folks anonymously ask personal questions and the model answers them. I think most models who do have an ask.fm account use it for personal enjoyment more so than an actual marketing tool, if publicity stuff is what you're asking about.

What LunaTuna said. FB is not sex worker friendly. And besides that, it's just a little too close for comfort to be advertising camming/sex-related stuff on the same platform where your super religious grandmother shares posts thanking Jesus for blessing her today. :)

Next thing you know, one of your Facebook friends is getting recommendations to add your cam girl account, or your cam girl account is showing up for them in the "People You May Know" list. Screw that. FB gets all up in your business. Save all that adult work stuff for Twitter.

I was stunned the day I realized that many of my FB friends' phone numbers were stored in my iPhone's contacts list. These are people who I KNOW for a fact never gave me their phone numbers. I was like um...why do I have a phone number for such and such, and do they even know that I have access to their number???

Ive read about Facebook removing paintings of naked women.

Another problem with Facebook is their facial recognition software and suggested friends system. I made a separate account with a completely different email address and I'm guessing it caught my IP and started suggesting my cam profile to my irl one! I dislike Facebook in general and deleted even my personal irl one.
Edit: I see Shelly beat me to this! D'oh

I am also newer and I really prefer Twitter. Camming isn't full time for me yet so its I don't have a ton of the to devote to social media. Its quick and easy plus you don't have to worry about censoring anything. Ive had trouble keeping up with Instagram because my following isn't very big yet and I have to be careful with my cam related posts. Snapchat is my other go to but I sell that.

Imo the biggest reason why models should avoid Facebook is because Facebook is a privacy nightmare

TWITTER. Twitter is great for networking and does not censor bodies or sexual images/gifs/clips.

AVOID FACEBOOK. If you're at all concerned about your privacy, don't touch FB with a ten-foot pole. Facebook, especially if you already have a page for your real life and name and friends and family, likes to grab and share information without your knowledge. It would be TOO EASY to have a mix-up and potentially reveal more about yourself than you mean to. Additionally, FB severely censors the female body.

Ive read about Facebook removing paintings of naked women.

A couple of my female friends have had mysterious people on FB reporting their photos for nudity when there's absolutely no nudity in the photos (looking sexy in a dress that shows a little leg isn't nudity). They're both attractive women, so we figured whoever's going around reporting their photos as inappropriate for nudity is probably some chick hating in silence. It just sucks knowing that someone on your friends list is reporting your photos on the sly.
