Why doesn't MV offer models the option to make their vids rentable?

Renting is a blockbuster era thing.

I feel like renting clips would just open up more opportunities for scumbags to record & upload content to tube sites. Which is/was already being done with memberships.

So, streaming-only? We have an option to set our videos to streaming-only on MV during the upload process. I don't use it, because most people want to download and keep their porn.
Also, I've seen members complaining about how absolutely shit the streaming option is due to the lag. It pausing every 5 seconds or so despite them having great internet, etc.

I rent movies from Google Play now and then, and it's a file that's easy to watch for 48 hours. Maybe that's because they're proper movies hosted by Google, I dunno, but it's something I do...

I’m confused by this complaint because there’s also a giant button that says Stream Full Video rather than Buy Full Vid. Don’t they have to click on that to be charged for it? I mean I know a lotta men don’t read when they have boners, but that’s kinda NOT MV’s fault. What does he want? A pop-up notification??

When I buy digital comics, I have to check a box saying I know they’re digital and not physical copies. Not that unreasonable tbh.

That's a good catch (that was my tweet). When you have have not yet purchased the video, the button says, "Add to Cart", which is the same thing it says when it is downloadable. It is only after you buy it that the button says "Stream Full Vid".

Ahh, then I can understand the complaint. The screenshot is a misleading illustration of the point. :p

So, I think one of the main reasons piracy has effected the adult industry so much is that porn hasn't adapted like other entertainment industries, combined with Google favoritism. The notion of renting being obsolete couldn't be further from the truth, and I think it's a really good example of beating piracy by making the paid alternatives easier and still affordable.

If you type "Watch Star Wars" into Google the first results (right after ads) is a link to rent The Last Jedi from both Google Play and Youtube for five bucks. Unless a show/movie is really old/obscure (*cough* Peacekeeper Wars *cough*) this is gonna be what you find. But if you type "Watch Star Wars XXX" or really any other porn, the first results are tube sites, and there's definitely no official rental results for adult vids.

There are definitely still VOD sites if you look for them, but I think the more current/indie porn sites would benefit from offering it as well. As a consumer I would absolutely rent videos from places like c4s/manyvids/etc. Especially when you consider that porn has an unguaranteed end-game, it makes it hard to justify spending 10+ dollars on a video you'll have forever but may never watch again nor even be the last thing you watch that night.

I...really wish I could offer my videos as rentals on any of these indie sites. That would be amazing and I really wish the industry would embrace the modern rental culture.

Edited to add: I think a lot of porn piracy is due to the free stuff being EASIER to find then the paid stuff. This is on Google's SEO.

Initially, I did have a downright "wat" reaction to the thread title. Yet, the more I think about it, the more I'm liking the idea of a renting option.

I actually rent films myself via amazon and never once thought of it being applied to the modern day adult industry.

I think it'd encourage more people to pay as it would be a cheaper option for a limited-time watch for something they might not be sure they want to buy in the first place, and to me, that would be a great middle finger in the face of our biggest competitor yet: stolen porn.

Being able to rent videos for a lower price will result in a lot more of them being recorded and posted to tube sites. Heck, people were/are already doing it with memberships on Manyvids.

That is the risk you are going to have to be willing to take.

Same goes for anybody offering a cheaper alternative to entice more curious people to buy them (like other video sites allowing rentals, or sites like bandcamp artists letting you listen to their songs for free for a limited amount of times before being required to buy. You can torrent them at a lesser cost that way, after all).

Anybody looking to torrent/steal your content will be doing so anyway, regardless of the hurdles you put in front of them.

I don't think a renting option should be mandatory; I would appreciate it being an option. You shouldn't have to offer a rental service if you didn't want to.

Don't think it works actually (not for me anyway). Most of the excitement is seeing something for the first time and its sexy that first time around but it's not something I want to watch again, My HD is littered with great videos that have been watched once. I think it's purchase rather than rental.
