THIS IS IN PROGRESS

I am posting this how-to for both models and members, so that anyone who wishes to use knows exactly what anyone on both sides can and can't see.

I will be taking screen shots, and putting lots of text up, so there will be double and tripple posts, since I don't want any one post to have too much information. Any screen shots of my amazon gift cards are of cards that are already used. Any personal information regarding the other person who sent it will be blacked out, with what I blacked out written over it.

If anyone here sees an aspect that I didn't cover yet, feel free to post it before I get around to it.

FIRST, their TOS (copied directly from their website)

First, from the side of someone purchasing a gift card.

PLEASE NOTE: I have never purchased a card with my own account. I have, however, used someone else's account to send myself a gift card (with their permission). Hence, while I know how to do this and can show you most of it, I cannot show you what the person on the other end receives as an email. If someone else here has purchased gift cards and would be so kind as to upload a screen shot (blacking out any info), it would be greatly appreciated.

First, you gotta go to the site. At the top of the page, will be a link that says "gift cards". It's right above that giant search bar, like so:

If you click that link, you'll be taken to a very busy and possibly confusing page. Don't panic, you just need the send by email link. It's in two places, and I've circled both for you here:

Once you click on that link, you'll be taken to where you put in the information.

You can use the drop-down to choose your amount, or type your own in. The drop-down has the following options:

Then you click through and the rest is just like ordering anything online! And that's the post for now (again, if anyone else has more screen shots about the purchaser side they'd like to post, go for it!)

Now for the receiver side. Again, I've taken pics of the email, and how to redeem it. The email would be three parts: the first pic, the second pic, followed by the terms of service (which I quoted in the first post).

In these pics, all I had to black out was the name of the person who sent it (he used the same name as his username on the website where we first had contact, and that's all I saw from Amazon.) and the order number. I did not black out the gift card number, as it has already been used.

THIS AMAZON GIFT CARD HAS ALREADY BEEN REDEEMED. So you will not be able to redeem it.

So, the top part of the email tells you the name of who sent it, whatever they entered for that. It also tells you the redemption code, and the amount. There's a link here to apply the card to your account.

The second gives you directions for applying during a purchase:

If you don't wish to do either of those, you can get there manually. First, go to your account (link is in the same place on every page), and then go to apply a card to my account.

Whether you get there on your own, or you take the link in the email, you'll come to the following page:

If you choose to wait till you have a purchase to apply the card, then it will be in the payment options (I'll take a pic of that next time I purchase something).

And voila! You have the card, and neither you nor the other guy exchanged anything but email address and screen name. Plus, they don't get a list of what you buy with the card. That's because when you apply the card, it becomes store credit instead of acting like a credit card.
