    UK porn ban

Reddit (and twitter) won't, because although they allow porn, they are not primarily porn sites and the government has had to conceed that those sites are used for lots of other things, so since they can't make the operators ban porn from them, and they won't block them, the implementation of...

Might be losing my job because they found out...

Sounds like you have it sorted out now, but so you know for the future, in the first two years of employment a company can let you go for almost any reason that doesn't contravene equality and discrimination laws and you cannot claim unfair dismissal unless for a reason that is "automatically...

    Your favorite sci-fi

Blake's 7 on TV. Babylon 5, Firefly and new BSG. There's also Ultraviolet, but that's vampires, so probably not strictly sci-fi (ditto for Buffy) Star Wars, Serenity, Gattaca, ex Machina, Terminator 1&2, Metropolis and both of the Blade Runner films. And 'La Jetee', which is a short film...

Why MyUglyCam is so popular ?

You aren't the only person that thinks that. While I only have CB to compare with as I only have accounts on two sites, I find the MFC layout much easier to get along with.

What was the last movie/show you watched?

Last week - Bohemian Rhapsody. Really enjoyed it and felt it was pitched just right, as a celebration rather than a gritty bio-pic. I think the fact that I basically had Queen as a soundtrack to my childhood helped a lot. Yesterday - Mirai. Japanese anime about a small boy who suddenly finds...

    Whats your favorite romance film?

It's an amazing film, though when I think of romance films it doesn't immediately spring to mind. Wenders' "Paris, Texas" is one of my all time favourite films. My own choice would be Some kind of wonderful, not just because of that kiss. Would have been Pretty in pink, but Hughes wrote the...

    Anyone read any Fantasy novels?

I have quite a lot more scifi on my shelves, but from the fantasy ... "Magician" by Ray Feist, which is pure high fantasy "Neverwhere" by Neil Gaiman, which is another novel with the premise of magic hidden in contemporary London. Plus (of course) his whole Sandman series of comics. "The...

Microsoft Bans Nudity - No More Skype

IP over avian carriers is an actual thing, there are even two RFCs (1149 and 2549) and real world implementations. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_over_Avian_Carriers

Microsoft Bans Nudity - No More Skype

Some of us still play pen and paper D&D!

Microsoft Bans Nudity - No More Skype

Any video calling app with end-to-end encryption would fit the bill, there's no rule that says you have to use skype for video calls. ICQ (there's a name I haven't heard in about 15 years) already offers this according to their website.

In Honor Of Women's History Month. Who Are Your Favorite Female Musical Artist??

She died 40 or so years ago, but still Sandy Denny. Picking just one of hers is rather difficult, but I'd have to go for this one. And since the topic is "musical artist" rather than singer, Delia Derbyshire, who was IMO an absolute genius. (I can go on at some length about the masterpiece...

Starting my first ever D&D session next week...

Sneak attack for the win! Rogues get some cool stuff early on. My group has been playing the same module since something like May last year and we meet once a week (with occasional skipped weeks if too many absent). We might be the slowest group in the history of D&D :bookworm:

    Major US banks blocking Bitcoin

More precisely, not allowing speculation using borrowed money. Some banks in the UK are doing the same. It's always been the case on this side of the pond that if you ask for an unsecured loan and say the reason you want it is to buy shares / funds, the bank will refuse, seems now they are...

Best alternative cards to buy MFC tokens?

I just use my normal mastercard that I put almost all of my spending on. Don't see why I'd need a separate credit card for MFC - can someone explain?

    Sci-fi Books Thread

I'm a big fan of Gibson's Sprawl trilogy, particularly Neuromancer, and also the Sprawl set short stories in the Burning Chrome anthology (Jonny Mnemonic is a blistering short story which makes the fact it was turned into a turgid and dull film all the more depressing). If you want to try some...

When was the last time you went somewhere that didn't accept credit or debit cards?

My local fish and chip shop, last week. Strictly cash only.

UK Digital Economy Act Coming April

At the moment it looks like one of the providers of this age verification solution will be Mindgeek (not aware of any potential competitors at the moment, in fact), which I imagine most of you on here will be familiar with from sending them DMCA notices for their various sites (pornhub, redtube...

Starting my first ever D&D session next week...

I returned to D&D for the first time since university last year and joined a group starting a 5e campaign. I bought a PHB which I read before the character creation session and still I needed a fair bit of help with the 5e character sheet as well, so I wouldn't stress about that too much...

    BitCoin/Ethereum

I mined some four years ago using the GPU in my gaming computer. Cost me some electric and I think I'm about 5000% up now on my electric costs (hardware costs were nil as I had the computer already). People were saying it's a bubble, a ponzi scheme and it would all turn into tulips within...

On the topic of ridiculous rules

Cam sites are not under any human rights obligation to allow anyone that wants to use their platform to attempt to make money. They are private enterprises. It reads to me like you do not really understand the scope of human rights treaties or legislation. I'm a passionate human rights...
