Hi! I'm an experienced software engineer and I'm here because I want to use my skills to empower cam models. Do you want data-driven answers to help you make more money? Example questions:
  • What prices should I set?
  • How much money could I make over the next 5 years?
  • Should I focus on earning money or gaining followers?
  • What outfits/aesthetic should I try?
For the first three people to reply to this post, I'll be happy to answer your questions for free. After that, TBD.

If you already have good ways to answer these questions, how do you answer them? BTW I have checked out CB Cam Analytics. It seems like a great product but I don't think it directly answers these questions.

How often should I open my boobs to speedrun max profits?

--
Jokes aside:
I love porn data. I STUDY the pornhubs yearly data overview end of the year and usually end up applying what I can that works for me/is comfortable with. When I'm active on OF, I am glued to my analytic page. What may appear profitable on paper isn't realistic or repeatable. The questions you gave as examples are imo arbitrary. I'm also assuming your data doesn't include privates/hidden tips/ppv messages/hidden subs/affiliate earnings. There are tons of models who require an upfront tip before private. Pretty much anything you don't see that is publicly available. Those cam analytics have people widely off than what they are really making majority of the time.

Anywho, I answered your questions.

What prices should I set?
Depends. I and other successful vets recommend going by the average models in your country/niche/bodytype rates/prices. If you feel like it's too high or too low, adjust to what you feel is comfortable. It can take some time adjusting to your rates before you see results. Remember to give yourself raises to adjust to inflation as time goes on. If you feel you aren't earning enough with the amount of work and sales, raise them rates.

How much money could I make over the next 5 years?
Easy question! Anywhere from zero dollars to literal millions.

Should I focus on earning money or gaining followers?
Focus on streaming and producing content. Consistency is the best way to earn money and gain followers. You can have all the followers in the world, but you want followers who spend. Also recommend recognizing that you may put in all the work and still make jackshit. This industry is super luck-based.

What outfits/aesthetic should I try?
Whatever you are the most comfortable with. I cannot stress this enough. Just because something is popular, it isn't the way to go. Members can easily pick up if you are uncomfortable with whatever look/aesthetic/niche you are trying to recreate/adapt into your campersona. Following trends can be helpful, but not always the way to go. If you wanna still want to make money on camsite in five years stick to your comfy gut.

What kind of software do you want to develop? I have some ideas and 11 years in the industry. When you want to talk to me

Getting your own data is the way to go imo. Purple hail storm's spreadsheet (that if I'm not mistaken was suggested to me by Miss Lollipop here and was one of the best investments I ever made) allows you to track your sales and see what days, prices and categories work best for you individually.

Tracking our own data maintains your autonomy and then you don't need a random stranger telling you how much to charge or what to wear, which is the opposite of empowering models.

Quite the opposite, figuring it out on my own was literally the most empowering tool I got for myself as a model.

Thank you for this roast! At first it hurt my feelings, but then I thought about it and I agree you're totally right that my post is arrogant. To get great insights you need both data analysis skills and domain expertise, and I only have one of those. Thank you for spending your time to answer my questions on the thread. Here are some points that stood out to me:
  1. Lots of important revenue won't show up in the public chat
  2. You care about total pay, not total followers
  3. It's a hits-driven business
  4. You gotta follow your heart!

True! This is a question where data might provide a more precise answer. I see a ReadySetCam blog post How Much Do Cam Girls Make? (2023 Cam Girl Salary Report) that even includes a cute salary calculator tool, although as pointed out by u/rezzzocb on r/CamGirlProblems, the earnings figures are likely too optimistic because they're getting responses from Reddit, which is naturally going to attract a more invested population. Also the average is going to get dragged upwards by really high earners. I also see that it doesn't include country, niche, and body type, which are surely relevant. Would it be useful to recalibrate this data to get more realistic answers?

Ideas (probably bad?): "Klaviyo for camgirls;" a smart tip menu that optimizes prices; lifetime earnings predictor.

Thanks for sending this! That seems like a great tool. I like that it integrates all the way down to helping with your taxes.

Well said. I need to provide value without asking for anyone's data.

Is there a possibility you have a link to where the spreadsheets can be bought? that actually sounds very interesting :)

I don't actually use them anymore (lol) after reccomending them like crazy - not because they're bad, they are fantastic! Spreadsheet maintenance is just hard for me to keep up on and after a while I had enough data on what clips sold to make decisions. The rest of the data on customers, earnings etc was all SO helpful but as my sales went up inputting the data from 5 clip sites and 2 fan sites + cashapp/venmo sales became just realllllly time consuming.

I need to find a faster / intuitive way to keep track of my earnings though. Like maybe not every clip sale anymore but I have so many different sources of income I need to be able to see at a glance what I have coming and from where on a month to month basis. I use YNAB to track my income once it hits, but i need like.. current sales.

I'm currently utilizing notion to keep track of my video processing.

Thanks for being a good sport. But there really isn't a precise answer. Unrealistic to achieve that from an estimation. Plus this is a very volatile high-risk overly saturated industry.

I believe it's more realistic/useful to focus on the available data that can be used like what I mentioned. Is it a profitable product? Not really and ignorant to assume we models aren't already actively doing this and sharing our methods/tools in open/closed groups. Or for funsies.

  1. You gotta follow your heart!
not really. more so recognizing and establishing boundaries.

To OP:

This. This is what sounds to me like a killer app, if you are trying to make something that helps models. If all that data is on web sites and apps, it can be scraped and dumped automatically into a spreadsheet/QuickBooks/etc. in seconds instead of hours. Lightweight analytics can be added later. Just be sure it's done in a way that fully protects model privacy, of course.

But also this is the kind of stuff (data entry, really) that could be outsourced to a trusted remote personal assistant, if there's a even way to navigate the privacy issues there. Different business model, same result.

And the monetary value of the service, whether human or digital, would have to be enough to justify any fee. I have a feeling that many successful models likely already have their own system in place that they are comfortable with, even if it doesn't track every number.
