It seems just like yesterday sometimes, when that first trailer for Final Fantasy Versus XIII was shown at E3 2006. It blew me away. I was instantly in love.

After this trailer, news on development went cold. Nothing was said for years, except the odd mention that yes, it was still being created. Then finally a new trailer featuring gameplay was released.

Again however, news went cold for a couple years. Skip ahead to last year's E3, and we were all in for a big surprise.

Hurray! New hope! And it looked fantastic. But then at E3 this year, there was no mention again. Lots of fans, myself included, were beginning to get skeptical. Would this game ever see the light of day? This past week, we got some clear answers with 2 new trailers.

Along with these videos, came a possible demo release date of March 2015! Unfortunately, the director Tetsuya Nomura has stepped aside to focus on development of Kingdom Hearts 3 and other unannounced titles, giving the reigns to former co-director Hajime Tabata. Now whether Nomura was forced out, or stepped aside, is still anyone's guess, but with the bulk of the game seemingly done, a 2015 release seems likely now

I find it difficult to care about final fantasy after they ran the franchise trough the mud with 3 iterations of FFXIII. The fact that there are now two mmorpgs in the main series doesn't help :snooty: .

Now to the actual game at hand.

- I have a feeling that it will be difficult to feel empowered with that kind of combat system. Which i feel has sort of been a problem since the transition to real time combat in FF12.
- The vibe i'm getting from the story is kind of dry. FFXII level of dry politics kind of dry.

Not sure why i'm harping on about FFXII. I kinda liked that game. I couldn't draw a comparison to FFXIII though. Which has an incomprehensible story rather than a dry one.

The Leviathan looking monster just about the only exciting thing i've seen in the footage. The adamantoise one wasn't bad to be fair, and they remembered at last that magic should look a bit impactful.

I used to be a huge final fantasy fan. So it does not please me that i feel that i have to be this cynical with the franchise. FFIX is one of my favorite games, and i have greatly enjoyed many of the other mainline installments.
