I love reading, and I have a lot of down time at my job to do so. I've recently finished book 5 of The Game of Thrones (Song of Fire and Ice) series and I'm just about done with Anna Karenina since the movie is coming out this December. I was just curious what everyone's favorite book is, or what books you recommend. I have a few to share too.

Ishmael by Danial Quinn
Invisible Monsters by Chuck Palahniuk (or anything by him really)
Brave New World by Aldous Huxley
The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

Anything by Nancy Farmer.
Specifically "The House of the Scorpion"

Vivian Vande Velde's "Companions of the Night"
The Dark Is Rising series by Susan Cooper
"Izzy, Willy-Nilly" By Cynthia Voigt
"Animal Farm" By George Orwell.

F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote a TON of amazing things that got overshadowed by "The Great Gatsby".
His short stories like "Winter Dreams" are gorgeous and melancholic.

Anything by Douglas Adams. Seriously. Anything. It will be good.
"Flowers for Algernon" by Daniel Keyes

Sherlock Holmes also has a special place in my heart.

Sorry, I can go on forever.

I read all the time, some of my fave series:

Codex Alera by Jim Butcher, seven book series about a world where people have access to "furies" that let them manipulate elements, the main people are loosely based off the ancient Romans.
The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher thirteen book series, so far, about a wizard in modern day Chicago who works as a private detective
The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien...
The Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind, eleven book series about a man who has to save the world from a group that wants to destroy magic itself, there's also a few other books that are set in the same world, and even one set in a different one that ties into it called The Law of Nines, all really good
The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan/Brandon Sanderson, can't wait for the next one although I'm a little sad it'll be the last
Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, series of books about a world where people can tap metals inside their bodies to do different things, really different type of magic than the usual and it's very well done

I read stand-alone books as well, I just tend to gravitate towards series, apparently
