This should be interesting to see what comes of the joint effort:

"
Three of the nation's most formidable companies – Amazon.com, Berkshire Hathaway Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co. – sent shock waves through the healthcare industry Tuesday by announcing a joint plan to reduce healthcare costs for their U.S. employees.

Although the companies said their focus mainly would be on providing improved healthcare for their own U.S. workers, which total nearly 1 million, the move immediately triggered speculation that any solutions they develop could spread throughout the industry."

Super excited about this!

I think it'll take a long time to roll out and be effective. But, I do see a lot of potential in changing the way things are done. Especially when it comes to medication, and how expensive so much of it is. Even so, I'm a little apprehensive of how it might work, and exactly how effective it will be in driving changes both at the provider side as well as changing the insured's methods of visiting doctors and not caring about expenses so much.

It's about time!

I really hope this is a step in the right direction and other corporations with clout will follow suit.

Yep, one of the biggest challenges with costs is insurance itself. It removes the patient's direct visibility to expenses by putting the insurance in there. Most people have the "At least I'm not paying for it!" mentality.

I honestly think that putting the visibility of costs directly in front of the patient, they'll think twice about a $50 bandage that would normally cost $1.50 at a drug store. Once people start shopping around for lower costs at a regular basis, I think the demand for over priced services may drop and we'll see prices come down again.

As mentioned, I'm a little apprehensive of it, given the history of how Obamacare and other Gov't plans have gone. But, also excited since it's private sector from three major companies pushing for it.
