So my drug addict brother in-law stole my iphone from me about a month ago. I ended up getting it back from him, but now it won't turn on or hold a charge. I was wondering is it possible to get the info off of the phone without having to get it fixed. Like can I just swap out the memory from one phone to another? Or do I have to get it repaired? Any thoughts?

you should be able to take out the little SIM card and put it into a new phone and it will have all your stuff on it.

The sim card doesnt actually hold any of the information and on an iPhone you cant take out the memory. The sim card will just mean its still your number on the new phone.

Try plugging it into the computer and see if iTunes will let you get into it, sorry to say this but I suspect that since it wont turn on you wont be able to access any of it. If it does work then you can just backup everything to the computer and then restore it to your new phone.

Also if you had iCloud on before he took it then it will be automatically backed up anyway and you can just restore from there.

As fandango said, Apple does encourage backups by giving users a choice of either backing up every time they connect to their computer or storing the backups in iCloud. If you have backups on your computer in iTunes, you can connect a new phone and restore the backup. Instructions for restoring from iCloud are here: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH12521?locale=en_US. If you happen to live near an Apple store, it's worth taking it in to have one of their "Geniuses" take a look. They don't always live up to their name but they do usually try.
