I have befriended a cam model. Yes, call me crazy, but I consider her a friend. She has recently confided in me that one of the members of a popular cam site has gotten hold of her personal information, including details about her family. He has been blackmailing her to communicate with him on instant messaging daily. This has been going on for months now and has recently escalated to him asking her for money, threatening to dox her to her family, friends, university, etc.

I have recommended what I can, based on some research (and other threads in this forum):

  1. Stop all communications
  2. Report him on all platforms for blackmail
  3. Keep evidence. Messaging logs, screenshots. Etc.
  4. Make a police report. (though it seems the police are not interested in helping in her country.)
I am reaching out to this forum for help. I am certain this is not the first time this is happening. Someone out there must have some experience in this and be able to offer some useful advice on how to deal with this and help her get through this. She is really scared and this is impacting her significantly. I am concerned for her.

Please if you have any advice on how I might be able to help her, I would really appreciate it. Even if it is just someone who has been through this that I can put her in direct contact with so she can get some encouragement from a peer.

I have suggested that she should post here directly, but she is unfamiliar with the environment and the forums. She is scared. I have a little experience in this forum and in my experience, there are some awesome people on here that really want to help others.

Thank you in advance. If there is anything I can help with as a long-standing cam site member (on the other side of the screen, as it were) I would, of course, be willing to pay it forward.

Kind regards.

If I were you I'd take a step back from this. I'm guessing your friend is Russian and so is her blackmailer. If she's actually being blackmailed then there are only two options. She can either give him what he wants and wait for him to return again and again or document the threat and tell him that if he follows through with it, she will go to the police with the evidence. Extortion is a much more serious crime than being a webcam model in Russia.

Either way it cannot go on forever. He will either make good on his threats or he won't. There's nothing you can do.

There's also a real possibility that she's playing you. Most blackmailers aren't interested in communicating with their victim every day for months. It could very easily be her boyfriend that she's talking to and the blackmail thing could be nothing more than a made up story that allows her to talk to him in front of you. If she asks you to help her pay him off, that should be a giant red flag.
