ou may soon be seeing and sharing advertisements during your Skype calls, if the company’s new CEO has his way.

Speaking at the Fortune Brainstorm Tech conference in Aspen, Tony Bates discussed ways he might monetize the popular Internet phone service, once its $8.5 billion acquisition by Microsoft is completed.

“Obviously, there’s a very rich long-term advertising play,” Bates said. “The one I want to tease right now is in-call advertising. The average length of a video call is going up — it’s about 27 minutes now — and you’re doing a lot of things in that time. If we’re talking, you’re not just looking at me, so we have a lot of opportunities there.”

I can see it now... watching a model fuck herself on skype and you hear "oh my god i'm gonna... Vivvvvaaaa Viagra!"

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww :(

Gives me more reason to uninstall. Oh wait, you can't because Skype's software is a buggy P.O.S. :angry-cussing:

The way he talked about it, and with skype being a video/teleconferencing thing made me think it might be banners or silent commercials of some kind on the edge of the screen etc...like yahoo has for years. If they interrupt peoples calls with ads they'll invent/switch to an open-source version or something.

if they do this i'm definitely getting rid of my skype show option completely. :) but i'll be glad to do that. it seems that only the people who piss me off want to buy skypes, go figure.

More of a reason for me to try & use Google+'s cam feature now, lol.

Google Talk has included a video calling option for some time now.
