The nice thing about going to the Olympics in Sochi, is that you can shower, knowing that the FSB has your back in case you slip and fall. Or, you know, drop the soap.

Russian official says government has video surveillance of Sochi hotel room showers

Dmitry Kozak, a Russian deputy prime minister in charge of preparations for the Olympics, mistakenly revealed during a press conference that at least some hotel guests are under video surveillance in their own bathrooms. "We have surveillance video from the hotels that shows people turn on the shower, direct the nozzle at the wall and then leave the room for the whole day," the official told members of the press, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Well, Atlanta had pretty serious traffic problems. Thankfully, they have that straightened out now. Oh wait.

For your information it is straight as an arrow now. Look at all these cars flowing down the roads in an efficient manner. There is no need to investigate my claims any further either. :liar:

The twitter account @SochiProblems is a really great one to follow!

It is crazy how much they fucked this up. The committee that approved them for hosting should really be in trouble too, to be honest. The corruption there is so intense that they have shamed themselves at a time when the entire world is watching. They could have spent a teeny tiny portion and finished everything just fine but NOPE!

Like...they just couldn't not take ALL the money and everyone knows it.

The UK have topped that Canadian video already, in my opinion (Think we may have even made the luge comments a few days before them on mainstream TV too). I give you all, the UK's theme for the Winter Olympics!

They did a nice job with the opening ceremonies, at least the part I got to see while at work. There was even a Cyrillic alphabet lesson. The rings got fucked up, and I guess someone's gonna really regret that happening.

I saw some pictures of what looked like a celebration of the Stalin era, though. You really want to remind Ukraine of that period as often as you can.

It was a bit ironic that a ring wouldn't open, given the anti-gay stance shown by Russia. Certainly got a few inappropriate laughs from me.

A...celebration of the Stalin era...? I think I'm going to hurl...

American Olympic star Johnny Quinn had to break out of his hotel bathroom in Sochi this morning because the door would not unlock.

Here's Johnny!

Either "Here's Johnny", or Oscar Pistorius is there ready for the Paras afterwards.

*Apologises if that is too dark a joke..*

I heard they have 2 TV channels available in Sochi. One channel is Russian propaganda and the other one just directs you back to the propaganda channel.

If it's in English, that's probably Russia Today. That's available here for free on basic cable, too, courtesy of Russian taxpayers. Anyway, they a bunch of TV channels in Russia, and almost all of them are loyal to the government. The last independent channel is in the process of getting squeezed off cable and out of business.

Canada's first gold medalist.

I'll just leave the gallery link, since the image is a little large. http://imgur.com/gallery/M6LDCHX

Her sister Chloe won silver, and her other sister Maxine competed as well, but didn't make it into the finals.

Ladies like this make Montreal winters worth suffering through.

in case you where wondering why the Dutch are winning so much medals on the winter olympics?

http://www.ibtimes.com/winter-olymp...ntinues-be-dominated-netherlands-why-1554557#

The Dutch love of skating, including competitive skating, goes back a great deal further than the 1960s. The ISU was founded in Holland, the first world championships were organized by the Dutch, and, in 1865, the sport was already considered so typically Dutch, that a book about a Dutch boy named Hans Brinker (aka The Silver Skates) became a best seller in the US.

Oh snap! Well I'd definitely prefer things not be as bad as that account makes it out to be, so that would be nice if things were less fucked!

Our women already won. The best you yanks can hope for is a draw.

I won't be an American until next week. Until then I must completely side with the Canadians, and I'll be watching the Canadian commentary via VPN. But, I'm currently in Chicago, still kind of win either way based on that as well :/

Stupid game is too stupid early.

I'm SO RELIEVED Canada won in semi-finals!
After the women's spectacular gold medal game I smack-talked SO MUCH online that I wouldn't have been able to show my face on the internet for days had we lost today's game to America :-D :-D :-D

Well that sucks!!

Kind of a boring game too, everyone was playing way too nice. The Russia/USA game was WAY better imo.

11:00 am was too early?

If you stay in Chicago, you'll still be able to watch some great hockey :thumbleft:

Chicago Blackhawks on various Olympic teams.
