So last night we had a good discussion on carbs and what not. This is how I feel about carbs.
Complex carbohydrates a.k.a. low glycemic index carbohydrates are IMO the best kind to eat. They are less processed and tend to have more fiber. They also don't cause spikes in your blood sugar. Examples are broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, whole wheat bread, whole grain pasta, sweet potatoes, red potatoes, brown rice, etc.
Here's a good list of low glycemic foods - to be considered low glycemic index, the index needs to be 55 or lower:

People don't realize how much your blood sugar affects your functioning, and for diabetics managing carbs can be a matter of life and death.
One thing that is nice is that there are lots of food like meat that has no carbs in it.
It is worth noting that you can't get too focused on carbs, there are many other things about food that you need to put together in order to eat healthy.
