Colonization of Mars could happen within our lifetime

ever dream of going out into space? being a pioneer on a new planet? would you apply? if you got to go, would you?
do you think it's a necessary step for the human race to survive (in case of nuclear war or the zombie apocalypse or whatever)

thoughts? opinions?
do tell

I get motion sickness playing video games or doing math in moving vehicles, so space travel is not an option for me. Even if I could just teleport there magically I would also miss many things like internet porn and long hot showers if I went to Mars, so I have no real interest in going. I am fine with other people going, just in case everyone on Earth gets wiped out.

When Elon Musk and SpaceX (or possibly Richard Branson and Virgin Galatic) start selling tickets to space destinations I am buying. However, the Mars One guys are well intentioned amateurs. The cofounders have modest technical achievements and the rest of team very little. I find it a bit scammy that they are using money from application fees to be an "astronaut" to fund the organization.

I do agree with Elon that is important for human race to be multi-planatary species both for our long term survival (fast moving Zombies are dangerous :D) and to feed humanity need for exploration and hope.

There goes your #1 excuse for not tipping.

I don't get it :?

Part of me would absolutely love to go.

Most of me realizes that in such a society I'd be a useless waste of space until the internet catches up, which will be well past my lifetime. (Don't contradict me on this, there's absolutely nothing I can, at this moment, contribute to a society that doesn't have space for a sex-worker who won't have actual physical sex with the client.) Of course, if I really wanted to make it happen, I could always go back to school and get my master's in Mathematics, and make myself into someone who could be a productive member of such a society, but...

I like having access to the internet. I like having access to video games. I like having time to read and play. I like my current partner, who has no intention of doing this (to my knowledge). And... I'd miss nature way too much. Plus, I'm too damn lazy.

If I were still alive and fit during the time after the initial pioneer stage, I'd gladly go there. But that'll probably be a couple lifetimes after I'm gone. But it would be a lie to say that it doesn't give me hope to know that this will happen, and people will be able to live on Mars sometime soonish. (relatively soonish)

I would absolutely love to go to outer space someday. I am obsessed with astronomy documentaries, but I don't think I could live on Mars.

My mood is dependant on the sun, and Mars is even farther away from it, so I don't think that would be a good idea.

If we were talking about going to a gorgeous place like in the Avatar movie, then count me in! ;)
