Hello @all & @punker barbie

No matter which cam I open on the desktop-PC, the video quality is set to auto 360p, sometimes 480p.

If I manually select 720p or 1080p, very few cams work, most of them just lagging.

For the ones that run at 720p or 1080p, I set them back to auto, and then it stays at 720p or 1080p.
When I refresh the cam, it goes back to auto 360p.

It’s not my internet connection or the browser, because other users I’ve talked to are having the same problems.

In march all was fine, it's since april. Before, no matter which cam I opened, the auto setting was set to the highest possible video quality and all cams worked fine with 720p or 1080p.

What has Chaturbate changed here???

CB is now using low latency HLS
in general it works rather nice , errors are recovered very fast
but indeed , it sometimes starts at a low resolution

If people can't watch cams in 720p and 1080p anymore, because the picture is lagging, you can't say "it works rather nice" 🤷‍♂️

did just some extra testing and most cams start at highest resolution , without lag
a few sometimes drop back to 360p but go back to 1080p after a while

but if you go to an other browser tab the resolution always goes down and will not always recover if you go back

That’s how it is for you, but important is the majority of users.
No matter who I’ve spoken to, everyone (european users) has been having this problem for weeks, that cams are only streaming in poor quality.
The reason is now clear to me: CB switched to HLS.
The fact is, if this keeps up, it’s no fun to broadcasting and especially watching cams 😩

THIS! My users cant watch me in 1080p anymore. I stream in HD with bitrate 5500 and is lagging but not dropping lower than 4900 so acceptable, but if i set lower bitrate is lagging til unacceptable quantities to be in HD , so for me best solution is set bitrate in HD as high as i can, but HD+ i cant with bitrate 5500. Maybe i will try 8000 and will see today

I know this thread is quite "old" now, but I'm still facing the same issue ever since, just hoping that it would start working again, but today CB doesn't even work anymore.
It's good to finally know the cause, but oes anyone know if there's a way to turn this low-latency off, like you can do on Stripchat?

Also experiencing this issue lately, and noted whenever I'm seeing broadcast quality defaulting to lowest available resolution, it's when using wi-fi.
Same for others, or still happening when on wired connection?

Wired, wifi, mobile data, pc or phone, it doesn't matter. It just doesn't work well anymore. I made a thread before I saw this one, there I explain everything in detail and everything I've tried doing

I had some members saying this last time I was online so I started trying to work out why it was happening, checked my room and had the same issue. it's not your internet, it's not the model, it's the sites player causing the issue. When I pull the video feed directly (so bypassing the sites video player) there's no lagging and buffering everything plays cleanly, so since the video feed is fine and an external player plays it back fine the only thing left causing the issue is the sites video player.

Just for clarity you extracted the path while the browser player was playing the video, opened directly with something like vlc and the vlc played it fine while the sites video player using the exact same url you extracted had issues?

Yep, even having them side by side, same resolution loaded the site would lag like crazy while vlc played back with no issues.

Could be something else causing the site to make the video lag, but they changed how the video data is sent at some point to where the video and audio are on 2 separate streams now so I'm guessing the video player needs to combine them which is causing it, could be wrong on that because I dont have a great understanding of how their video processing works.

It dosnt seem to be something that effects every room or every user at the same time though.

my experience is a bit different
when they just started with LLHLS there was the problem that the auto selected resolution was low .
many complaint about it and they fixed it and resolutions are now always good (max available)
it's even better than before the change to LLHLS
.. maybe it depends on the browser ??

If so, then Chrome and Edge are cooked, because I tried both and neither work. I haven't tried other browsers though

FWIW I get the issue of defaulting to lowest available video resolution with both Chrome and Firefox.
Following up on this comment, I was online recently and found completely the opposite.
The video resolution kept defaulting to the highest available resolution, not the lowest.
Ordinarily, that would be what I was hoping for, but this last session, the higher-resolution video kept freezing, although the audio continued without problem.
(This supports recent comments here that CB has separate feeds for audio and video these days).
I noted the higher resolutions available in the room were 720, 720p75, and 1080p75.
I had only previously seen 720p60 and 1080p60 - so I suspect the 75Hz refresh rate may have been causing the video freezing issue for me, as I was using an older laptop at the time.
