Thought I would update this with a more recent development. Now it is relatively easy to print an entire gun. Oh, and it's rather easy to put together so anyone, including lay people and teens, can do it. If you can solve a 20 piece jigsaw puzzle you're over qualified.
Here's the article. http://www.forbes.com/sites/andygre...wittersf&utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=social
And here's the defcad.org website showing all the parts that make up the gun. The plans are on this page and can be downloaded and printed today. http://defcad.org/liberator/
And if you don't feel like clicking the link here's the picture.
Oh, and here's the video on that page too. It shows him firing it and printing it up (short video).
And now for the latest update. The government shut down the defcad.org website and has claimed ownership of all of the 3D files. Technically I would have thought the files themselves would have fallen under right to free speech. But this is America, we're losing that right more and more everyday it seems.
:naughty: "This file has been removed from public access at the request of the US Department of Defense Trade Controls. Until further notice, the United States government claims control of the information."
God damn it this fucking Government is out of control. One of these days we are going to have to reign those mother fuckers back in under our control!
The irony is that the pro gun lobby supports the congressmen and women that support the eroding of our rights that allow these end runs on the 2nd amendment. All in the name of national security. I am for sensible and rational gun control and not a fan of how the 2nd amendment as been interpreted (judicial activism) by the US Supreme Court.
This is why this particular attempt at control is stupid. 3-D printing is not cheap and won't be for a while. Why would someone waste their time and money printing a gun that has only been shown to be capable of discharging once, when they can purchase a known quantity like an actual gun for much less than it would cost to print your own? It is already possible to make your own gun or guns in your garage for cheaper than a 3-D printer, yet you do not see a rash of homemade guns being used to commit crimes or being used by terrorists.

Yes export controls is a pretty flimsy excuse for shutting down the website. If it makes to SCOTUS I expect the Government to lose the case, but that is expensive and I doubt anyone will step forward to fund the case.
