OK, so I reconnected with some friends from highschool via facebook a couple months ago. One day one of these friends posted that she was looking for a couple more people to fill a softball team for this summer. I delt with a really bad bought of depression for pretty much all of 2009 and desperately need to get out of my room/house and interact with people and the real world so I offered to play. She was like, "cool, but FYI this is a GAY softball league, but breeders are welcome to play too." I've known for as long as I've known her that she was a lesbian, and she is a friend nonetheless so I agreed to join anyway. I get a facebook group invitation for the team and get to see everyone else who I'll be playing with. to my suprise, THREE more people that I was good friends with growng up are on the team and are also gay! I was a little shocked, but whatever right?
So the league starts tomorrow at 11:45am, but what this post is about is the league kickoff party that happened last night. the party was held at a bar called the Rainbow Room in NE detroit, which is (GASP!) a GLTB bar. For those of you who don't know that stands for Gay Lesbian Transvestite Bisexual! The party started at 7PM and would culminate with a baseball themed drag queen/king lip-sync show at the end of the night. So I get there at 8pm and start looking for anyone from my team (we've had a bunch of softball practices so I pretty much know everyone on our team already) and to my HORROR, I am the 1st one from my team there! SO I grab a table in plain site of the enterance so I will be sure to see someone I know as they walk into the place. No big deal, a 6ft tall, 190lb bull lesbian should stick out like a sore thumb right? NOT! So after 2 hours of "Oh, finally Cheryl is here......oops maybe not," She FINALLY shows up, along with everyone else from the team all at once. Everyone was very suprised that I showed up, and I gain a lot of points from the other teamates for being open minded (as none of the other "breeders" on the team came to the party).
I was drinking Jack and Coke and commented that the drinks were pretty strong. Cheryl replies, "they are just trying to loosen you up and free your mind." LOL. Sorry, but it would take a helluva lot more that 3 drinks for me to dare cross that threshold! Next, some league representitives were going around selling 50/50 raffle tickets for $5. How many tickets you got was determined by the length from your crotch to the floor. I decided to be a good sport so some random dude got a free grope of my balls as he strung out the roll of raffle tickets to see how long I was (his words, not mine!)
Finally, the "talent" show. Long story short, it was laugh worthy! 4 dudes in dresses lip-singing the tune from Moulin Rouge, Cher, Lady Gaga, Fat Joe (Lean Back) and Pink impersonations, a Mary Poppins number, and lastly a VERY IMPRESSIVE Michael Jackson tribute. I don't know if the MJ act was a guy or a girl but it was damn good! they did the raffle drawings which 2 people on my team won. Then I got the hell outa there!
It was a night I won't soon forget to say the least! EVERYONE that I talked to was very nice. It had a everybody knows everybody atmosphere and even though I was an outsider I didn't feel overly alienated (suprising even to me). I mentioned in the Odd Turn Ons post about finding some somewhat manly girls to be one of mine, and I'll admit there were 5 or 6 girls (hopefully bi) there that I thought were pretty hot! The league has a bar of the week every Sunday after the games (not ALL gay bars mind you) so I'll be seeing a lot of those people again throughout the summer. At the least I'll make some new real life friends out of it, at the most.........who knows?
