I know there are a lot of threads on recipes and dieting but it seems as though most of them are in the Models only section. If I missed this topic somebody please link me.

I have never followed what most people would consider a clean diet but I try to eat fairly healty. I have been doing research and reading and reading and reading but there is just so much info about clean eating it is almost overwhelming. I am hoping to find out some tips from anybody that practices eating clean. What do you generally buy at the grocery store? Do you have any "go to" snacks? What do you do for late night cravings? Do you pre-plan meals? Whats in your pantry? Anything you would be willing to share about what you do and how you stay on track is very much appreciated!

I didn't want to put all this in the original post so here goes.....

This past month I have started eating a healthier diet. I have cut out softdrinks and alcohol and started trying to snack on fruits and veggies instead of chips and cookies. I have been eating smaller meals more often and have started back exercising. I dropped about 5-7lbs this past month from making these small changes in my diet. With that said, I am not looking to reach a goal weight, I am looking to lean and tone up while having a more healthy life style in general with the ultimate goal of entering a figure competition in the next 6-8 months.

This is something I have thought about and wanted to do for a long time and for some reason everything just recently clicked for me! Im very motivated right now and I want to see some major changed in my body. I know this type of diet will help me more than anything else so hopefully some of yall will be able to help me out!

ive been making a conscious effort to eat clean (er) lately. i fell into the vegan junk food trap a couple months ago and was subsisting on vegan cheeze pizza and vegan chickun nuggets. i noticed i was feeling like crap and changed things up. for me its all about switching things id normally eat for things that are clean. such as
kale chips(dehydrated kale with Himalayan sea salt) instead of tortilla chips or crackers
frozen bananas instead of vegan ice cream
spaghetti squash with mushrooms instead of spaghetti with meat or in my case soy meat.
avocado on ezekial bread instead of butter on normal whole wheat toast.
my go to snacks are always organic fruits and veggies. sometimes hummus or guacamole with carrot "chips" i also like baked sweet potatoes. the trick for me is making sure i don't get bored or spend my whole week eating salads and brown rice because ill end up going off the deep end.

That was a new term for me, so I looked it up. My take is that (at least on a minimal basis) it is to eat things closer (or closest) to the source. More natural, less processed.

Instead of getting a package of "Uncle Ben's" microwave dishes, make the rice (brown rice) yourself. That way you know what's in it. Whole grains, fresh fruits & veggies, meats with no additives. I saw one page where they advocated getting only "whole" pieces of meat and dividing it up yourself. If you go the full route, using only organic food and doing all the prep yourself, it could be time consuming and expensive. But you know what they say, nothing good comes cheap :)

I'm pretty sure this would be beneficial to most of us ;)

This is pretty much what I've been doing lately plus juicing for breakfast. I've been feeling pretty good. my allergies cleared up and everything, then I cheated quite a bit for a few days and they came back, I'm trying to knock them back into remission now.
I may need to do anyothe mini juice fast to kick em but it's really hard to do as a cam girl. :(

If you want to learn about clean eating you just have to read Tosca Reno's books! They're in fact titled "The eat clean diet" lol! :) I met her recently at a convention she is absolutely amazing and very inspiring. She preaches common sense. No gimmicky diets.

I'm not a fan of cutting anything out of your diet but excess sodium, refined sugar, refined carbs, chemicals and bad fats. I think diets restricting you from whole food groups are just setting you up for failure after the initial weight loss.

My biggest tip : Proteins and healthy fats will keep you feeling full for longer. A breakfast of oatmeal makes me crash about 1-2hours later. Protein keeps me full longer and gives me more energy. I recommend 1g of protein per 1lb of your goal weight. Try to include protein, complex carbs and healthy fat at every meal.

Go to snacks: carrots, peppers, cucumbers with hummus or greek yogurt dip, apple with almond butter, greek yogurt and some berries, cottage cheese, protein shake

My new favorite discovery at my grocery store: Microwavable brown rice! That stuff takes forever to cook! haha.

Pre-planning meals? Good idea if your serious about weight loss. This is a necessity for body builders. They will cook and refrigerate whole meals days in advance. I'm not much for planning too far in advance except cooking a few chicken breasts. I definitely always need something quick to grab though or I will turn to take out. It depends on your goals?

Also, I've glanced at this thread title about three times today and every time I've read it as "Cum Eating" :?

I eat around %90 clean :-D
My staples include Greek yogurt, eggs, boneless skinless chicken breast, salmon, avocados, steel cut oats, asparagus, broccoli, carrots, mushrooms, wheat tortillas, brow/wild rice, potatoes, extra virgin olive oil, grapes, bananas, wheat bread, natural peanut butter, celery, squash, I use only misses dash seasonings and pretty much avoid sodium. The list goes on but this is what I almost always have in the fridge/pantry and makes a lot of different meals for me.

When I get late night cravings I usually go for some yogurt or a banana, they're filling and low cal. I dont generally plan my meals. I stay on track by allowing myself to eat "crap" a couple days out of the week. I do cheat meals not days. I usually just splurge on a nice dinner out or go out for ice cream or have some drinks. :)

I went grocery shopping about 2 weeks ago so right now my fridge/pantry still has some junk in it but I did go back yesterday to buy a lot more healthier foods. I spent about an hour walking around the outside edge of the food section at wal-mart reading and looking over ingredients and picking up some items like strawberry, oranges, apples, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, peppers, guacamole, bananas, peaches, salmon, boneless skinless chicken breast, greek yogurt, and egg whites. I hate to waste food so I am going to slowly transition out my white rice for brown rice and get rid of the other junk I tend to buy on a regular basis. I honestly felt really proud of myself for going to the store yesterday and not buying any chips or softdrinks or cookies. I also bought some divided Tupperware containers so I can keep my lunch in the fridge. I tend to eat junk when I can't decide what I want to eat so I am going to give pre-planned lunches a try just to see how that goes.

Congrats on avoiding the junk. Maybe you could consider donating any of your unwanted food stuffs to a local food bank so it's not wasted.

My suggestions (I'm sure most of this you already know): Avoid most frozen, canned, and prepackaged food. They contain a ton of preservatives and junk that people really shouldn't be eating. Canned and frozen veggies have a lot less nutrients than the fresh stuff. A healthy diet requires you to grocery shop more often. I like to cook so I look for new recipes (or healthier variations of old ones) to try and plan a basic menu for the week and buy ONLY what I need from the store.
Casseroles and anything cooked in a slow cooker are great because you end up with leftovers and there's minimal effort involved.
Onions, mushrooms, bell peppers and garlic are always on my shopping list<- I do a lot of stir fry type dishes and these are must have flavors, Great for breakfast skillets too.
My favorite recepies:
Black bean Quinoa burgers w/ avocado
Red and White Cauliflower bake
Chipotle BBQ Acorn Sqaush

Not strictly clean eating but there is a pretty funky thread devoted to juice fasting/dieting and healthy eating/living that may/may not be of some use to you :)

http://www.ambercutie.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8157&start=210

I had read over that thread and I am not really that interested in juicing so I didn't want to hi-jack it.
Thank you, but that is one of the things I like about that thread, it has become very loose, and seems to be mostly a place for posting progress reports when we care to, or bit of info as we go along. Well, for myself that what it feels like more than strictly a juicing thread. But I just love food, and a whole sub forum on just food would work for me.

I also like the food/diet threads, because I can relax, and don't have to worry that it could flash into a political, or religious battle zone. I allow my self to appear as stupid as I am. I'm ok with not knowing a bunch about nutrition. It is really something, that when you through off all the efforts to appear smart, how open you become to learning. I digress, sorry.

Food is always a good topic. :thumbleft:

Ahh I need to eat much healthier. Ideally, I'd eat organically and eat more veggies/fruits and less meat but it's so darn hard for me financially and my will is so weak. I think if I went to the farmers market or something like that I could buy cheaper fruits and veggies. Does any one have any ideas for cheap organic foods?

I know its on MensHealth, but this post in the Forum helped me loads when shopping so i thought i'd share it. I have a Farm Shop near me so I shop there when I can as its cheaper and i know im getting good stuff. Ive dropped about 3 stone this year with just cutting shite from my diet (I say diet but very rarely thought about what i ate before!)

Have you considered growing your own if possible? Other than that I would only be able to suggest a farmers market. I also know that sometimes you can work out a deal with farms where you pay a set price once and they deliver you a bunch of stuff (you dont get to specify, its different everytime) weekly. :)
