Does camming breed narcissism for both model/member or were they already narcissists long before?

There's no denying the fact that the egos of camland need the vast space of the internet to fit comfortably. For both models and members. In a land of never-ending supply for both, it's the perfect playground. Factor in the chemical cocktails that your brain dumps out during sexy-time and it's a HUGE supply of feel good.

But do you think it's a place where it's more likely to be born or simply amplified by over 9000?

And I'm talking true narcissism. Not simply just enjoying compliments.

amplified

Both?
I think for the majority of the models, amplified almost always. I think members are not often, but occasionally born.

The majority of members are not narcissists and that is made blazingly apparent by the HUGE gap between room count and active members, however the majority of models likely are to some degree, or at least have narcissistic tendencies. It is VERY very hard to be successful in cam land otherwise, honestly.

Before camming I was a puddle of introverted, stammering nerd, and could barely talk to people IRL. I definitely think camming made me more narcissistic, but tbh it was necessary and I feel more like a functional human now. :haha:

With members, I've not picked up on this. At lest, not with my regs. A few drifters have given that vibe before they moved on.

I was just thinking it would be an interesting topic of discussing since the forums are usually filled with the same tits and ass topics that get a little dull. But you can stick to the models only section if you feel it's more appropriate to talk about things that make you feel vulnerable there instead of replying in the public :)

Does it really matter? Do we really need to explore the psychology of web cammers?

The better question is: why do members make everything more than what it is? Why can't they just be satisfied with some tits and ass? No wonder there are so many jaded sex workers.

Eh, I think if members were just satisfied with tits and ass we'd all be a lot poorer. I certainly wouldn't have the life I do. I think it's a pretty good question and not one that's brought up often. So why discourage it? This is, after all, a discussion board about camming. It's something I've talked about with fellow models before, but never in the open.

I think this job does tend to amplify narcissistic tendencies for sure, as well as amplify all self-esteem issues. I spend an embarrassingly large amount of time looking at pictures and videos of myself, pep-talking myself about all the amazing things about me so I can sign on cam and put myself out there, and when I talk to my friends about this job it's cringy how self-centered it's made me become on some level. When I'm on cam sometimes I want to just smack myself for talking about myself for hours, but essentially you have to be able to do that to make it. When a night goes well it's easy to let it go to your head, same as when a night goes poorly and you think you're garbage.

Now to go back to editing video of myself and brainstorming ways to turn my brilliance into profit.

Topics like this can often be quite interesting and you can see a lot more about certain people. Also if people literally just wanted to see tits and ass and nothing more then camsites wouldn't exist as everyone can already see that for free on pornhub.

If you don't want to participate then that's fine but no need to stifle the discussion.

Don't think she can get into models only. But another thread certainly.

Let's not forget that this is the gullible fool that got bilked endlessly by a model. it just sounds like another rousing example of him trying to find fault with models instead of his own dumb self by now calling them narcissists. But hey, maybe I'm just being a pissy bitch because I can't stand people like him that make cam life 10,000x more annoying than it should be because they try to make things more than what they are.

About self-esteem issues. What about thoses fucking troll who spends their times insulting models?
I mean even if camming amplified narcissism and model is more sensitive about what people says about her.
How can model can overcome insult and verbal violence?

Fault? Blame? It's obvious you're misinterpreting the basis for this discussion and taking it as a personal attack as such, you needed to act like a child and make a personal attack against me for something you know literally next to nothing about except what I made available to the public.

You think you're an expert on my thoughts because I shared only a fraction of my experience with one model?

The way you reply is like you view narcissism as a bad thing, it can be healthy in the right amount. I think I may have struck a cord and you just made everyone aware how fragile you really are that even the mere discussion of your biggest weakness makes you shudder.

If you'd like, I can visit your room next time you're on cam and feed you tokens and ego boosters to help you feel good about yourself.

That was also part of the stab
Well that was just shitty and the next thing was shitty and let's not be shitty.

I like the topic, let's maybe stuff the poo back in our fanny packs and get back to it, eh?

Being told by hundreds of people daily that you're beautiful, sexy, perfect. Being paid to show off your body so that dozens (if not hundreds) of people can jerk off to you every night. Having people defend you en masse against any and all criticisms. People paying you even when you're not working because even when you're not there, they still can't help but think of you... I don't think there are too many people in the world who wouldn't be effected by that.

I think it can work the same way for members as well, but probably not as frequently.

Narssicist is so heavily used asa negative and an insult that I can understand why some would be turned off by this thread, but honestly it's just a personality type that a LOT of really good kind people have.

Being a narcissist is not a negative by itself unless it's coupled with negative actions, if we stop thinking of narcissist as only negative I think this thread will be a lot healthier.

Before I started stripping I had no confidence. I never picked up on flirting. I settled for people I wasn't attracted to when it came to relationships just because they showed me the time of day, and I thought that's all I would ever be able to get. I don't think camming or stripping has made me a narcissist, though. I have way more confidence and can carry myself better and talk about myself more, but confidence isn't bad. It's done wonders for my life.

I did have a regular stripping that definitely got his narcissism fed into by throwing money at me. The whole, "everybody here sees me giving you all this money. They know I'm somebody." But I also had regulars who came in, gave money, and didn't have a power trip about it. It's the same with sex workers. Some are narcissists, some have amazing confidence, others are just good at faking confidence long enough to make some dollars.

Phoenix,
It depends on the model and member. Frankly, I believe that many models and members can be narcissists. Personally, I am not a narcissist and I do not need camming to stoke my ego. Frankly, I do camming for both the financial and entertainment aspects only. So, I guess camming amplified narcissism if someone is already a narcissist :)

I VERY strongly believe confidence and narcissism are almost complete polar opposites. You do not have to be confident to be a narcissist, honestly being a narcissist is probably more likely to result in lower self esteem because you are so much more focused on yourself than many and your flaws and hangups hurt 10X more.

I think actual narcissists, like Jolene said, are people who have low self esteem. Instead of working on that, they take the shortcut and go delusional. All of the narcissists I know are awful people who hate anything that chips away at their inflated ego. So, I feel that an actual narcissist, while she might enjoy creating an online identity, would not last long at camming unless she managed to get others to see and praise her exactly as she wanted. They're fragile people and not that pleasant when not catered to. Now, if we're just using narcissist as a dig at someone who is confident or has a large ego, sure... although I think camming would humble them at least on some days.

Members? It might be an enticing place for a narcissist to spend time, but unless they have tons of money to tip, they probably won't get the level of control or attention they feel they deserve. Then they end up here complaining about whatever money they did spend hoping to feel like a special little victim.

Actually, Jizzy Jezebel, sex workers become jaded for various reasons. Often, they become weight down by guilt or shame when it comes to sex work. Also, they become jaded when they no longer think of this industry as a business and put too much of their" true selves" into this industry. Ways of stopping jadeness will be having fun at work, treated this like a business, take a more light-heart approach, focus on your financial goals and develop great hustle.:cigar:

I disagree, I think many of us are narcissistic (self centered) in a completely harmless and helpful way. I separate "Narcissist" and "Narcissistic personality disorder" and do not believe delusions have anything to do with the standard narcissism that you'll likely find in cam models.

I think my view of narcissism is a lil different than many though

There's no denying...egos of camland...a land of never-ending supply...perfect playground...HUGE...over 9000

That's a lot of generalizing and glib hyperbole, isn't it? I wonder what brought that on.

There's a difference between narcissism and self-confidence. One is unhealthy, while the other is not. "Narcissism" gets bandied about so much recently in the context of social media and there has been an increase of it in the population generally, but the term itself is overused, and is now applied to anyone who doesn't "know their place", and it's usually done in a passive-aggressive manor.

Ah. My go to understanding of narcissism is the personality disorder. I've used narcissist as a descriptor before, but I try not to. It's confusing to use as a word for someone who just thinks a little too much of themselves. And, if someone doesn't have a disorder, who's to say what is too much peacock strut? I guess I assumed we were talking about the disorder. Like how camming can both exacerbate and appeal to folks with social anxieties.

Very easily. The ban button. Muting guests/basics. Being doted on by members. When you're in control, anyone who disagrees with you, or threatens the illusion you portray (member threatening to expose information like real name, etc etc.), is disposed of pretty fucking quickly.

Being told by hundreds of people daily that you're beautiful, sexy, perfect. Being paid to show off your body so that dozens (if not hundreds) of people can jerk off to you every night. I think..erm..I am one of those members. To be honest, being in the Marines did not help this one bit. Being in the elite, the less than 1% of population, the finest fighting force in the world, etc etc. It goes to your head. We're the best and we fucking know it attitude basically.

At some point you go to war and you have to accept death. Everyone handles it differently, but when I did it. Boom. Void. What overcame the fear of death was a huge fucking ego. "If I'm going to die I'm going to take these fuckers with me."

Come back from that experience with a shitload of $$ and a feeling of entitlement. Anyone who says they don't feel entitled to something after that is a fucking liar. We receive "training" to down play that feeling, but it doesn't go away.

Factor that in with what I already believe about myself and it's just a recipe for becoming a little bit of a monster. I know I'm special because (my reasons) and it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. Truth be told, it actually does matter, but more often than not I can find someone who will tell me what I want to hear. Whether they believe it or not isn't important, but just telling me feels good because it reinforces what I already think and know about myself.

Then I go on a cam-site where the average male isn't young and attractive even more so and there on the homepage is 1100 ways to fill the niche any time I want.

I can def see your view, and why my take would probably not be the norm or be confusing.

Maybe Narcissistic tendencies vs. full stop Narcissist?

Narcissism is not a bad thing because we have to learn to love ourselve. It's the base of the self confidence.
When this love for ourselves reach the point that you only take care about yourself we are in the disorder. Other narcissic disorder is people who are empty inside and feel like they don't exist so they need to destroy other people part of narcissism.
I don't know what i'm saying is understandable but narcissism helps us to know who we are and accept it.

You're on the right track. But the mistake you're making is when you say "need to destroy." You're making it about the other person. It's less about destroying them and more about getting them to suit your needs. Whether they are "destroyed" or not is irrelevant, unless that is your goal.

Ummmm..narcissism does not help me learn to love myself. I already love myself and will upgrade myself for more profit Frankly, my main objection of being a cam model is to make money and have fun. My main objection of being a sex worker is to make money, have fun, be creative, and maintain power. I am non-nude model because I love the challenge of being creative and maintain my position of power without being nude. Narcissism has nothing to do with my sex worker career nor my lifestyle. Sex work is about making money, being creative, getting power, and being a better hustler for me. Nothing more nor less. :cat:
