There's a special on the Tyra Show today about prostitutes, CAM GIRLS (yussss!), pornstars, escorts, etc.
It's on right now and I'm sure if you miss it, you can find it on Hulu or somewhere online! :)

Just watched it...I was kinda disappointed that the cam girl didn't speak up more and talk about what she does. The girls didn't really seem to have much to say to her either.

I personally do NOT feel like I should be lumped in with a prostitute, illegal or legal. I don't mind being in the same group with a dancer or a centerfold model. Maybe that is just me. I have sex with myself and people watch me. I don't know...I don't feel bad about what I do. I also don't necessarily tell everyone what I do either, mostly because I don't want the judgements that will inevitably come afterwards. Also, because I have an 11 yo daughter and I am not telling her what I do.

How do you guys feel? And yes...I lost any feelings of like for Tyra after watching. It was obvious she thought all of them were trashy. That bitch!

I agree with you Curvy, maybe it is because I absolutely am inlove with what I do and am jaded, but whatever. I was having a conversation with someone today about this. They were kinda laughing about what I do. I was like "I dont get the stereotype around it! I don't get why people see it as such a big deal and taboo, I find it as a hobby of mine, why wouldn't you get paid for a hobby?" and they sorta laughed and was like "well I guess people aren't okay with being as open as you are" I was like "Its a hobby wouldnt you get paid to play soccer if you could?" And they sort of cocked their head and agreed. I was like "HAHAHA! See! My hobby isn't as mainstream though."

I do believe we are part of the adult industry and all that none sense. I personally consider this cyber stripping. But I am not sure if there is a hierarchy of people in the adult industry. Some may be better jobs in each persons opinions than others, but I was just baffled by the way the girls were and how Tyra was. It made me feel like I should feel like scum of the earth and am immediately going to burn in hell or something, which I don't think I will..

Cassidy, I agree with you 100%.

First of all, selling sex for money is the world's oldest profession. As long as there is sex, people of both sexes will be trying to sell it. What all of you models do is just a 21st century extension of that profession. And to be honest, stripping on cam is a 1000 times safer than working in a strip club or working the streets as a prostitute or being in a porn movie or even working in a brothel, and brothel's are very controlled environments (if you've ever seen HBO's Cathouse, you would see that).

Secondly, as long as you're enjoying what you're doing and no one's getting hurt; who is anyone to judge you? What right does Tyra Banks have to say anything when her previous profession involved people (possibly including herself) starving themselves and people doing ridculous amounts of drugs just to stay thin and stay in the business? Is that less wrong than a woman masturbating on cam and getting paid to do it? I don't think so.

Finally, you all have a job that can be very tough psychologically. Let me explain it this way:

I have performed some stand up comedy on stage. I've only done it twice and the 2nd time, I was heckled and I could barely handle it. In hindsight, I wish I could've told the heckler "yeah, I know I'm sucking. At least I have the balls to stand up here and suck. It doesn't take any balls to sit there and tell someone they suck."

But as far as I'm concerned, you all have bigger balls than any comedian because you are more exposed than someone doing stand up is. You're just as interactive with the audience as a comedian, but you're naked.

The downside of that is that you all can be heckled for worse things. And you have to be very strong mentally to not let all of that affect you. What you all do is not a job for insecure people.

So to Curvy's point about being grouped with different parts of the adult industry, I say this: what you do is safer than pretty much any other part of the industry, but it maybe a tougher part of the business as well.

But as long as you enjoy what you do, who cares about the downsides?

(If none of that makes sense, forgive me. I'm posting it at 1am!)

Geekstick, I agree with everything you said too 100000000000%. Selling sex is the world's oldest or one of the oldest professions ever. People have been doing it FOREVER, and yes I agree with you that this is the "new way" to do it, through the internet.

I live by the stance, Only God can judge me. Who is ANYONE to tell me how to live my life and tell me what I am doing is wrong? It is not like I couldn't get a "normal" job and work at a bar or a fast food resturant or anything like that. I am doing something I absolutely love, not many people can say that.

A few weeks ago, 2 girls I went to high school with were found on a Girls Gone Wild type tape of spring break in Daytona where they showed their tits and kissed each other and got paid 100 bucks. Everyone from my old high school FREAKED OUT calling them whores, they have no dignity, yada yada yada yada. I was like "WOW! really? Two girls doing this at SPRING BREAK but they had it taped and made some money to go out that night, and they are whores?" I mean I dont really get it, when did girls flashing their nice tits and kissing be not hot anymore? But I thought about it and I was like if anyone from my high school, who I don't talk to anymore, would find out about this I would be the scum of the earth.

It is just sad. People these days are so closed minded and you are a whore if you show your tits and are going STRAIGHT TO HELL!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!

I agree with you guys completely!

I also recently had "outed" myself on Facebook & MySpace on my personal accounts; told people what I do for a job.
Most of my friends were okay with it, but there was one girl that really got to me.
The things she said made me break down crying when I went out to eat with Stephen one night.

Anyway, I told people through my status what I do.
A girl who was under my friends list commented on it, saying things like:
"Online strippers are just strippers that are too ugly to get a job at an actual strip club"
"You don't respect your boyfriend. If you did, you wouldn't take off clothes for another guy"
"I'd never do that. I actually have class. I thought you did, until you told me this"
And other really horrible things.

I understand that she has values and morals that I may not stand by, but who is -SHE- to tell me that I don't respect my boyfriend, and that I'm not classy? I may not be the classiest person out there. I drink, I smoke, I swear. Whatever! Having class to one person is based on their definition, someone else's definition for it may be different!
Also, I was -OFFERED- a job at an actual strip club (which takes care of her first comment) but I didn't take it because I didn't want guys touching me. Why? Because I respect my boyfriend!!

People like that just make me sick. Really, they do.

Wow. I was able to watch the first part of this show with the lovely (and then still new) Sasha Grey. And was so disappointed to see someone who's supposed to be educated & open turn into a ignorant closed minded cunt. o_o

I've never been a fan of Tyra Banks really, but to see her treat a porn star with such pity and confusion is a big WTF to me. Tyra doesn't seem to realize she made her money on the same concept, just no dongs flying about. Sex. Sexuality. The image that on her modeling show she scorns girls for (if you can't take your clothes off for a photo shoot then you can't be a model worth a damn) is what she's telling people they should be partly uncomfortable with.

Sure, modeling nude & being a porn star or a cam model or even a prostitute are all different fucking worlds, but since she wants to clump them all together she's the biggest whore out of any of the girls on that show. Just sayin...

I'm sure anyone who's told a friend/family member or hell even a complete stranger what they do (as far as being a cam model) gets ALL these responses. And you have every right to straighten their shit out if you feel the need. I stopped a long time ago and now stick with the come back of "Oh please bitch, you just wish you had the balls and the beauty to do my job and do it well" Even said that to my mother once. We no longer discuss my job.

Wow, people are seriously so dumb! Who the fuck are they to judge you for what you do?! Are you hurting someone? Nope you're pleasing you and others. Are you in a bad enviorment?! Nope you are probably sitting in your bedroom. I dont think i could just openly come out on facebook or anything like that. The people that need to know know what I do and I try to keep it like that. ;)

I don't understand why society has their class system for careers and jobs. Are you happy doing what you do? Then it's fine with me.

The point that bothers me the most is people are judging conduct between consenting adults. The sex industry suffers the same scrutiny as others, such as the fighting sports. I have run across advocates for the banning of boxing and MMA (mixed martial arts, ie Pride, UFC, et al) yet those same persons promote and have no problem with anything in the sex industry. Both industries share the common ground that the acts performed are done between consenting adults whom have made the decision to engage in that activity knowing and assuming all the risks as real and apparent.

The one point the seems to be the deciding factor in anything is money. Sex between two people is fine, but once money gets involved it's all of a sudden morally wrong. The argument usually comes from the conservative Christian side of society, which I find hilarious because according to the 'lost' books of the Holy Bible, Jesus did not die a virgin but was a frequent patron of various brothels and enjoyed the sexual company of several prostitutes as well as is reported he arranged for orgies. He befriended a well known prostitute yet did not, according to record, persuade her to take up a different profession despite being 'morally wrong' in his eyes. He also struck someone blind as a child because said person was degrading his 'father' Joseph's skills as a carpenter. Conveniently left out of the published version of the Holy Bible as Christian society knows it today.

People that judge others for their career choice aren't worth the paper I wipe my ass with. I don't care what someone does for a living nor rank them according to any perceived value to society or to themselves for that matter.

Someone apparently needs to link Tyra to this thread.
Legalize prostitution. It gets rid of a large section of the criminal element involved, as well as makes it taxable and controllable. What are the problems with prostitution? The unchecked STDs, the violence, etc. All gone with the legalization of it. Operating without a license? Arrested, no license means not paying proper taxes, tax fraud. It would also help undermine underage prostitutes and child sex slaves. No license for them. You can regulate it. Plus if it's something people are consenting to do, then it's fine. The only reason not to legalize it is this "moral obligation" that puts your morals above societies desires and the safety of these girls.
Strip clubs are ok, but cam girls aren't? Lolwut? Cam girls are in a better environment, are much more safe, plus get to be their own bosses. How is that not better than stripping in a club? Oh right, because cam girls plunge things into their places, which isn't ok. Well, it is, but only when no one is watching. Plus as a cam girl, you decide where the line is. In a world where we publicly humiliate people on TV all the time for fun and money, you'd think we'd be a little passed this.
Pornography is the huge issue for me. You're paying people, to have sex with each other, but you film it, so it's not prostitution, it's totally fine. I'm not against porn in anyway (duh) but the conflict of this statement drives me mad. Moral of the story, if you pay a prostitute to "be in a film" then it's legal. Just like how escorts are "paid for their time" not for sex.
Cheerleaders, models, actresses; All of these jobs are aimed at sex appeal. Granted not all actresses are hot, but look at the ones that the media talks about all the time. It's all still selling sex, they just package it differently.
Peanut Butter shouldn't be so discriminatory.

I should also mention one of the least formally educated, funniest men in the last 100 years in America is Groucho Marx. A comedian that could hold his own in intellectual debates because while all the doctors and professors heard lectures on books, Groucho was actually reading them. Similar to me, I do any work I can right now, but I'm probably more intelligent most of the people I help or work for or even see most of the time. A man is not his job. Even a patent clerk could very well be one of the greatest mathematicians in the world. Same shit with age. I used to get ignored because I was a kid when I was younger. However I was at a party with some big business guys and they listened to me and their only response was "wow, this kid is smart, I agree." When you consider kids are dumb, and old people are crazy, it's a wonder anything gets done. Especially when you take into account that most things are still "old boy's clubs" that try and exclude women. So take out anyone under 25, older than 65, or female (hell take out anyone of color too because whitey doesn't give a damn) and you have society right there. Oh shi- republicans are running the world.
I like how Tyra did a show on how fatties are the last people discriminated against. Except all of the other discrimination.

Keithy you made me LOL here.

Wonderful post. It really is inspiring hearing something so supportive and well written coming from you, or hell, any of our friends from the Internet.

A+ dude.

I was watching a documentary about the Bunny Ranch and all, and there has not been ANY CASE of STDS since they have been monitoring it and having weekly tests, etc. I thought that was pretty interesting.

Maybe making prostitution legal would help out our amazing country with the google billions in debt we are in and getting further into. I am not sure though, I haven't looked at the numbers or anything like that.

No, not 'all gone'. There will always be elements of crime associated with prostitution whether prostitution is legal or illegal.

Taxes don't solve problems and they only are a burden to society. Taxes are always mentioned as a way to pay off debt when that's the last thing. Follow the money. Congress raises taxes or creates a taxable service to gain revenue. The businesses pay it. They are also in business to make a profit, thus by recouping their cost of doing business so if their cost increases due to having to pay higher tax, the tax will be passed onto the consumer which will raise the price. Now the market price increased putting a burden on the consumer who now buys less service. That stresses the labor since without demand of service there is less supply of service needed. Jobs get lost more people are on social programs so they get drained until the programs are underfunded. What does Congress do? Raise taxes. Thus the cycle continues.

Same thing happens when the minimum wage is increased. Payroll taxes account for about 40% of the hourly wage of an employee, ie I pay $10/hr it actually costs me $14/hr, $10 to the employee and $4 to the government plus I have to babysit their portion of income tax and pay it for them quarterly since Congress decides it's the business' burden to do that instead of a responsible adult. So wages go up, costs go up, taxes go up, costs get passed to the consumer which raises the price. The business looses revenue due to the increase in taxes and wages. Now with less sales to support the workforce, it has to cut labor force to stay afloat. Now you increased taxes and with smoke and mirrors made the revenue sheets look a bit better but instead of solving a problem you moved it elsewhere. Now the government is getting more in the way of tax revenue but it's paying more out in social programs for those that lost their jobs. The net result is usually worse off than before labor wages were raised in the first place.

Taxes are not the answer and seldom are. We need less regulation (regulation costs money), less taxes, and the government needs to spend less money and print less money. That is the answer to the economic situation, not higher taxes.

Operating without a license? Arrested, no license means not paying proper taxes, tax fraud.
Not necessarily. Taxes and a license are correlated but not co-dependent on each other. One can pay taxes without being licensed and vice versa. Simply because one does not have a license doesn't mean they don't pay taxes.

It would also help undermine underage prostitutes and child sex slaves. No license for them.
I disagree. There will always be some and it won't solve nor reduce the problem. Since it is still a black market, the licensing of such won't solve it or reduce it, perhaps exacerbate instead. People whom will defy regulations won't care about a license or not. They will do what they want to do, laws be damned.

The only reason not to legalize it is this "moral obligation" that puts your morals above societies desires and the safety of these girls.
Laws should not regulate morality since the very idea is fundamentally unsound and impossible.

Hrm...

I'm not over-looking everything said, but have no more to add to it besides that;

We have the most awesome and lucky job ever.

Sure, it can be made easier on us like if we could assign moderators or better control over some of the site's more shady members, but hey, it's still pretty fucking awesome.

There's not a day that passes where I feel bad or unfortunate for being a cam-whore, and I hope the same is true for every one of us. In fact for me I'm proud, and I feel quite joyous over the whole thing.

Hell I love it.

Yep. I think it says a lot that I actually quit a very stable office job to devote more time to being a cam girl. I am not STUCK with this job, I obviously CHOSE it. It's fun, it's rewarding, and it's flexible. It's not "poor me, I can't find any work other than exposing my body to strangers." It's more like "fuck YES!! I get to cum and get paid for it!!"

That you for the link! Turns out Tyra has done this episode a few times from a few different angles. The one I watched evidently totally different. I still wanna slap a bitch. >_>

EDIT: Also, the cam girl on there, I wanna slap her too. She makes the rest of us look like stupid cunts.
