My car says its oil is low, so I checked the dipstick and YEAH IT'S LOW. THAT'S AN UNDERSTATEMENT. Like it's definitely still GOT oil in it, but VERY VERY LITTLE.

And since I don't know very many men, I'M ASKING YOU :D

My car says "5w-30" and we have "10w-30"
How much will that fuck my car up?

One time substitution should be fine, just let your car warm up a little before driving it. I wouldn't make a habit of it though. The thicker the oil, the longer it takes for the finer parts of the engine, such as the valvetrain, to be brought up to operating oil pressure. Lower weight oils allow the engine to "pump up" to operating oil pressure faster. This effect is especially pronounced in colder climates.
