Hey ladies, I've recently gotten some new toys but it seems that my one has a VERY strong rubbery smell to it. What do you do to get rid of that new toy/rubber/pvc smell?

I've heard you can get rid of the odor by rubbing it on a stainless steel kitchen sink for a few minutes but I've never tried it.

This is also a tried and tested method a lot of fishermen use to remove the fish smell from their hands... I hope someone wasn't trying to pull your leg with this advice, thinking they were being clever in comparing the two.
In the event that it actually works, I don't know that rubbing toys that you use on your sensitive bits and pieces... all over your sink... is terribly hygienic.
Try this:

It's a stainless steel "soap bar"... I use one after cleaning fish.

For starters, rubber toys aren't exactly "safe". They're incredibly porous, can't be 100% sterilized and expire after ~3-4 months with perfect use. If they start to smell, look or taste differently, they're expired and should be thrown away asap.

For new rubber toys that aren't expired, you can wash them with anti-bacterial soap to help fight the smell and cooties. Be sure to also let them air dry on a clean, dry surface that's cool (melted toys are fun, yo).

Personally I've always found rubber toys to have a smell that you can't really ever get rid of. Cyberskin and other 'realistic' materials seem to be the same way. Silicone doesn't have a perceptible smell or taste, isn't porous (medical grade ftw!) and lasts a lifetime with proper care. :thumbleft: I used to review sex toys.

I love when chickies give good advice for this stuff & include safety tips along with a solution.

Also, there is a thread in the Model's Only section that talks about toy & lube safety. :D

Works with garlic fingers, why not dildos? Maybe it has to smell like garlic first.
