please someone help me. how the hell do i change my ip address without using a proxy server?
i tried run cmd,
then typed in ipconfig /release,
then ipconfig /renew,
restarted my comp.
but it is still the same. Arrrrrrrgh... this is really getting on my nerves. PLEEEEEEEEASE one of you brainy, comp. tech savvy ppl here... can you help?

Pretty sure ipconfig /release is just going to release your IP address to your router. Your modem's IP address is the one you want to change.

Turn off your modem for 5 minutes or so, then turn it back on (if you are using a router, turn it off as well). Wait for the modem to come back online, then turn the router back on if you have one. If 5 minutes doesn't work, you can try and turn it off for 30 minutes or so. If that doesn't work, you can try calling your ISP.

Beyond that, there's not much more I know of that you can do.

It might. Then again, it might not.

When IP addresses are assigned automatically, it happens like this: the modem or router connects to the ISP network and sends the ISP a message like " Hi :hello2: I am device number 01:23:45:67:89:AB, please give me an IP address". It is called "a DHCP request". The DHCP server (a computer on the ISP network) then uses some rules to decide on the IP address of this modem and sends back a "DHCP response": "Hi :hello2: device number 01:23:45:67:89:AB, your IP address is 123.234.012.123".

Sometimes, the IP address is randomly chosen by the DHCP server from a pool of free addresses. In that case, turning off the modem for a long period of time may help. However, the period of time required is uncertain. It may be 5 minutes, or it may be many days, depending on how soon "DHCP leases" expire.

With other providers, the IP address is firmly tied to that device number (called a MAC number, not to be confused with the Apple Mac brand). In this case, the only way to change the IP address is to contact the ISP and ask them to change your IP address.

The trick that Poker has found will only work if the ISP does not do "MAC number filtering". Mine does.

Ok, I'll go bore myself to death now. :violin:

most likely it does not work for you, most providers here (The Netherlands) have assigned a static IP to every customer.

Oooow thats probably why i was suprised.. My basic knowledge was correct..
Thanks ;)

Interesting. All a model needs to do is to click on one button to ban someone.......It takes a lot more effort for the member to change the ip address to get around the ban. It seems that the model has all the power. :-D
