I can't log in to the website?

So I recently signed up for a website, it's all been approved and they told me to download their software and input the details they gave me, which I did, and everything was fine - I was logged on to the site. However, I decided that I wanted to change my username which they then set up for me, but when I tried to log on the next time I was unable to. I've been trying ever since with no luck. The message I keep getting is: cannot connect to server, username must contain a-z A-Z 0-9 -_ combination. I just don't get it - so I've emailed my contact at the company and he's at a loss too. I've tried loads of times so it's very frustrating. They told me to keep trying while they look into it for me. Can anyone help?

Some sites when you change a username, it also changes your log-in, and some it stays the same. Have you tried logging in with each username? The original and the new one, and neither worked?

What he means is account name may not be the same as display name. You may still have the same account name, but the name displayed on site to users may be what you actually had changed. So when you log in, it may be the account name you use and not the display name.

However, I've never heard of the site so

My log in username is the same as my profile name. I was told to log in with this new username. I've just tried again and it still shows up with the same message. I've tried 2 different browsers too, to no avail. Strange?
