I downloaded the newest update late last night/this morning, then when I went to watch a video on it about 10 minutes ago it wouldn't completely start up. it would spin up for a while, then it would beep three times and the red light started blinking.

it's a 60 GB launch version with full backwards compatibility that I've had for three years and this is the first time I've had any issues with it, other than not playing a certain video from my computer. I have it running a lot because I use it as a media center/blu-ray player while I'm browsing the web.

I'm pretty bummed because it's way out of warranty and I can't really afford to pay for it to get fixed or just buy a new one.

to make things worse, my copy of Nightmare Before Christmas on blu-ray is stuck in the drive and I'm finally getting Heavy Rain from GameFly

Our PS3 crashed a while ago and we sent it off to be repaired. I'll get the link from DH if you're interested

thanks for the link, I'll look into that.

from what I read, removing and reinstalling the hard drive might actually fix it, but the site I saw that on suggested letting it cool down overnight first, if possible, so I'm leaving it shut off for a while then I'm going to try that.

thanks, and tell me about it.

I downloaded TVersity to watch all my videos on my xbox, but I'm guessing I didn't tweak the settings properly or something because the quality is utter shit compared to what I was getting on my PS3 yesterday, even with some of the same files.

and update:
the fixes I found online didn't do anything for it, so I'm either going to ship it off somewhere to get repaired/replaced or let my brother try to do it himself since it's out of warranty anyways. the only thing with that is that we don't have any of the supplies needed to do it, so I'll have to find somewhere to get those.

We tried the fix we found online today. It seemed to work because when I hooked it back up it loaded and let me start downloading the newest update which was going to take a while so I turned my tv off and left it downloading. When I came back in the light was still green and it was running, so I turned the tv back on to see how far along it was. As soon as I turned on my tv it shut off, beeped three times then started flashing red.

So, I'm back to square one, although now I'm thinking there might be something wrong with the hdmi port.

yea, it was neat seeing the inner workings of it, but I didn't really do all that much stuff since I tend to overreact when something goes wrong.
although I think I've been handling this, not to mention my external drive failure, fairly well.

finally got the part in the mail today, but I won't find out if it fixes the problem until tonight or tomorrow, cause I'm exhausted right now and don't want to risk messing it up.

Heh, I had to send my old 360 in 3 times because the DVD drive stopped reading games/movies. At least it got repaired for free.

I had to buy a newer 360 a year or so ago because my old one got stolen when my apartment was broken into during Christmas Break. I haven't had a single problem with it so far.

I had a 360 RROD on me, but it was still in warranty so I sent it in no problem, the only reason I'm trying to fix my PS3 myself is that it's out of warranty and I can't afford to pay $150.

Yeah, that's what sucks with the PS3, if it breaks you pay. Everytime my 360 went in, Microsoft extended my warranty another year, so i didn't have to worry about a thing. All I had to do was phone them and deal with tech support for like 1/2 an hour.
