Is a prostitute obliged to have sex if she's been paid?

Also: the word 'prostitute' isn't a slur. It looks like that writer means to say that it's loaded, which it is, but every word used to describe prostitution is loaded.
Yeah it wasn't until this thread that I even heard people considering it a slur.

No matter what title you come up with for something, eventually it's going to be considered an insult to someone, somewhere, or the definition will gradually change over time. There is now this trend of making up new titles/words for things because someone suggests it is insulting and it catches on. I'm not sure how I feel about it.

There's no simple, commonly-understood term that clearly the profession better than "prostitute", without being overtly derogative, i.e., "hooker" or "whore", or narrow, i.e., "call girl", "escort" or "street walker".

Any negative connotations are more likely due the perceived respectability of the activity itself rather than the term. It's not like your mom would be more impressed if you were to introduce your fiancée as a "full service sex worker" rather than as a "prostitute".

This debate's interesting, and I don't want to throw a wrench in it, but I just wanted to mention that sex workers don't usually charge for sex acts. They usually charge for time. So if we're comparing it to other jobs, she'd fail at her job if she didn't show up, not if she refused to have sex. It's also pretty common to attach terms that clarify whether the guy gets his money back if she decides to leave early. I've never known a sex worker who didn't protect her right to say no.

It's like camming. When a guy takes you private, he's charged for the time. Everything else is either implied or understood, but not mandatory.

So the question's more along the lines of, "if a guy buys you a fancy steak dinner, takes you back to his place, and puts on the mood music, and you say 'no' in the middle of the make-out session that will inevitably follow, is it rape if he fucks you anyway?"

Also: the word 'prostitute' isn't a slur. It looks like that writer means to say that it's loaded, which it is, but every word used to describe prostitution is loaded.

everytime this comes up, the way i see it is like this...

a contractor that builds your house is also paid ahead of time for a job to be done later (generally, i know there are exceptions, just as with prostitution).

if he took your money and refused to do the job, small claims court. if you just grabbed his arm, stuck a hammer in it and started beating it against some wood it would still be assault even if he owed you a job.
