Generally, MFC's behavior when "MFC is down" is that http://www.myfreecams.com starts loading, but the models list never loads. It just says "The site will load in just a few seconds" or "Seeing who is online..." forever.
I'm pretty sure downforeveryoneorjustme.com just tries to load SOMETHING at the destination URL. And since the MFC landing page with one of the above messages always seems to come up, even when MFC is "down", the tool isn't going to help you much, since it will just tell you that MFC is up.

True Bawsky. The models are on a separate part than the site or the profiles. Hrm. What's the IP of the model part? We could just ping it when it might be down.
http://www.myfreecams.com/mfc2/php/group_shows_board.php is the 'active group shows' page.
It does not rely on the normal setup of the website that runs everything else - but seems to always work - even if the rest of the site is broken.
Sometimes the list is empty - this is when the site is down.
Occasionally you'll see no pending, and just a few 'live' groups - this is when people can't log in, but ongoing groups carry on.
But if the site is up, there will always be some models in group/pending.
