Kick Ass Torrent Founder Arrested ~ Not as crazy of a read as the Silk Road, but still very interesting. Especially the roles that Facebook and Apple played in the investigation.

Damn, I knew torrent sites were profitable. Didn't know how profitable. All ad revenue, too? I can't imagine they're monetizing in any other ways. Not 100% sure though. Never really tried reverse-engineering any of those sites.

Big score to victims of pirated content. At least it reads like one. Don't know if it's one of those things where twenty more pop up in it's place and it's business as usual for the pirate community. Seems like it sends a message that overseas torrent sites aren't immune to US prosecution, too.

What country was it based in?

But why disagree? He was just reporting the fact that it's back.
Guy likes to disagree on most things. Even personal opinions where no disagreement is possible. It's just his quirky thing.
He said "It's back!" "Risen from the ashes to let the masses share all their stuff!" Implying that its a good thing. For the porn industry, its a bad thing.

His post DID NOT imply that it's a good thing. Aren't you aware of sarcasm? I mean, his post isn't even structured in a way for you to disagree with it. Lol. He didn't say "Kick Ass Torrents is an asset to internet users" or "Donald Trump makes an excellent presidential candidate." So what is there to disagree about? :p

I told y'all a long time ago that some posters would misuse the ratings feature.

The fact that he linked the site in the post proves that he was not being sarcastic.

If anybody on here can give me more examples of when it was inappropriate of me to rate something a certain rating, please show me a screenshot of them. ( Im not joking) Sorry if I've offended anyone.

Maybe. But since the main intent of his post was simply that it was back, and the nuance wasn't clear (sarcasm or saying it's a good thing), a "disagree" becomes ambiguous.

Im talking about examples of when I inappropriately rated posts in other threads.

The general consensus is probably that you just click the negative ratings too willy nilly/frequently. Example (in general):

This member has been on ACF since the year 2011
Screen Shot 2016-09-20 at 8.38.13 AM.png

Then here is you, who signed up in 2015

It may simply come down to you having a strong emotional reaction to more posts than most members, but maybe you could work on processing your thoughts/emotion on a post before swiftly clicking the disagree, facepalm or poop rating.

I hope members aren't expected to use or really care about post ratings.

Best not to. I can tell you, it's a quick road to heartbreak.

Can you show me examples of when I inappropriately responded to someone's post before this thread?

If I could actually click to sort your posts I could, sorry. The forum for some reason doesn't allow those numbers to be clickable.

All I know is over the span of your membership here I recall seeing (or getting private messages about) people being put off by your disagreement ratings. So just be mindful of it going forward.

I hope members aren't expected to use or really care about post ratings.
Not expected to use or care about them, no. Only bringing this up since it's a recurring theme and some members do pay attention to these things.

-----------

Enough of this sidetrack, back on topic, folks.

I could but I don't care enough to link to it. You disagreed with a post of mine that was simply a fact. Was funny. Pretty sure you just wanted to join in on a circle jerk, which is what the post rating system mostly seems to be.

I thought that the disagreement rating simply meant you don't agree with someone's statement.
I didn't know it meant someone's post is bad.

The disagreement rating DOES mean that you don't agree. It is used for OPINION posts. Like if someone says, "Nachos are better than tacos" you can disagree. Cause that's an opinion. But if someone says a FACT, you can't disagree. If I said, "The Earth is round," it's a FACT. You can't disagree with that. You might not like it, but there's nothing to disagree with. It's a proven fact, not an opinion. So clicking the "Aw that stinks" would be more applicable if you don't like the fact in question.

BACK ON TOPIC:
I wonder how Kickass was able to get back online? I'm so confused about stuff like that. If they were able to be shut down before, wouldn't that make them more susceptible to being shut down again?

When done frequently, it starts to shift meaning and just making you seem generally disagreeable, I suppose. And it's especially strange when used for fact posts.

As I said, back on topic, folks!

I normally have Guy on ignore so I had to hit the 'show ignored content' button to really follow what was going on

I don't really care if Guy disagree's with my statement or not, it was just confusing, to me, as to why he felt the need to link a news article from AVN, as if he's a representative of the porn industry
I might have been more understanding of the rating if he said he was personally against torrents or people sharing things over the internet, but no, just a "I disagree with this because the porn industry says it's bad"

and for the record, yes, I like and use torrents, but kickass isn't the only torrent site out there, and it's millions of users would have moved onto the next
I normally wouldn't have posted anything, but as soon as I discovered that it was back, this thread popped into mind and felt compelled to perform some thread necromancy because if KAT going down was good enough to create a thread about... KAT coming back is certainly good enough to post about :p

It's actually a new "mirror" site.
