For the last couple of months, I've been using Duolingo to learn a new language, and refresh my skills on another.
While I'm making progress and enjoying improving my abilities, I do find a few limitations with this particular app that are difficult to overcome.
The biggest one is that you cannot choose the subject matters that you want to focus on - eg if want to learn how to read a menu and order food, you have no option to select that, and have to work through whatever subjects the app throws at you.
A secondary one is that the app forces you learn by making errors, then shows your the correct answer - but does not explain or teach the rules of grammar and language so you can learn why. So you learn by remembering the right answer for that specific question, not by understanding the constructive points for general use.
Just wondered if any of you have experiences of other language apps that might address the above?
I'm ok with proceeding, as Duolingo is still beneficial, but would like to know if there's better available for my preferred style of learning.
