Anyone have any cool unique suggestions of places to eat?

Every year I go on a shopping trip with my dad and we always eat at somewhere different. We travel all around the state and our shopping date is fast approaching. Some examples of places of places we've eaten in the past include Sans Chez in Grand Rapids, Morels in Detroit, Melting Pot in Novi. This year we've tossed around a few ideas but no one we know has really any experiences with them. They are Joe's Gizzard City, Ozzy's Kabob, Gojo Ethopian Cuisine and The Tin Can dive bar.

I'd be open to reviews of those places or new suggestions. Please Help!

Thanks in Advance :)

The whole area around Oakland University is pretty awesome for Christmas. Plus, the meadowbrook mansion gets all decorated!

I haven't been to MI in 10 years so I can't give a specific name of a place since who knows if it would still be there.

But!

There are some great and interesting ethnic enclaves and with a bit of research you'll eat very well.

1. Hamtramck, which is a strange little Polish enclave inside the city of Detroit. It's actually kind of hard to get to, as the big highways miss it somehow, but I had the absolute best Polish food ever there. If you like stuffed cabbage and peirogis and real kielbasa and things like that, you'll be very happy.

2. Dearborn area has a huge Middle Eastern population (I think I've heard that it's the biggest Arab city not actually in the Middle East, lol). Anyway, there are awesome Lebanese bakeries, with all those little flat breads covered with spices (zatar! sumac powder!), and spinach- or meat-filled pastries. YUM.

Also, if you like kebabs, nobody does them better than emigré Afghanis. I remember some excellent meals in a nicely upscale atmosphere in a few places. Hot pita bread just baked, and spicy meat on skewers! MMMMMM.

Also, soul food.

Also, there are some great little tiny Japanese restaurants outside of Detroit that cater to the Japanese engineers that work for auto companies. Ramen bowls being slurped by guys that look like salarymen out of a movie, reading their manga. You know it's good, then.

This is making me homesick. When I moved to Florida, I thought we'd be surrounded by all sorts of worldly foods. All I find is Cuban and Thai. I never realized that all the middle eastern grub in Michigan wasn't everywhere else.

I'm obsessed with Thai! My favorites are XO Asian Cuisine in Grand Rapids and Thai Kitchen in East Lansing! You can also do a google search for middle eastern in West Lansing, only one place should come up and if so, it's incredibly authentic and delicious. Mexico to Go in Lansing is also delicious! Don't be fooled by the silly name. It's better Mexican than my Mexican family ever made.

 "Pure Mi. Fresh Coons. 834-8617."

DETROIT - An elderly Detroit man is making a name for himself selling meat. Not the typical meat you find in the grocery store, but a specialty item.

His signs can be spotted along roadways in Detroit. They read: "Pure Mi. Fresh Coons. 834-8617."

The man behind the signs is Glemie Dean Beasley. He has two passions in life: Blues music and hunting.

"I've been hunting over 40 years," said Beasley.

Beasley came to Detroit in 1958 from a small town in Arkansas. That's where he first learned to hunt. Now he does it to help make ends meet.

"Business is not bad," said the elderly man.

He runs his raccoon selling operation out of his Detroit home on the city's west side. He keeps his dogs in the backyard, and a freezer full of raccoon meat in a shed.

The meat and the fur are equally valuable to Beasley. He skins the animals for their fur so it can be used to make coats. Beasley says he has customers as far away as California. He sells his raccoon meat for $15-$20 per animal.

Hunting is illegal within city limits. Beasley says he hunts his raccoons on a farm in the Jackson, Michigan, area.

Although the coons sounds super appetizing  we actually went our trip yesterday. We ended up eating at a place called Zaytoons (which is what came up when I googled Mediterranean in west Lansing) and it was just OK.
