So how do you all feel about remakes? For me it's pretty rare to enjoy a remake better than an original. There have been exceptions tho. What sparked my interest in starting this thread was seeing the new trailer for Beaches. Beaches is one of my all time favorites hands down. I cry every. single. time. I am curious to see what they do with it. It has been almost 3 decades since the original & notably the new director is a woman. Whether it is good or not, at least it will bring exposure to such a great story! & also yay for more representation in media:D

21 Jump Street, Vanilla Sky, The Departed, and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo are my exceptions :)

Rarely an improvement, usually just left wondering how they got even the little things so wrong. I did enjoy the Halloween remake. Will even admit to not hating the new Jason and Freddy movies. I don't think that I could make a reasonable argument that they were improvements to the originals but I didn't regret watching them.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo

The American version of TGWTDT wasn't so much a remake as much as a complete reworking, and they did some cheating. It includes elements, for example, the torture of the rapist guardian, from the second and third novels in the Millennium trilogy - The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest - that weren't in the original TGWTDT movie. That's probably one of the reasons that there has been a delay in following up the US version with the next installments of the trilogy.

With that said, I also enjoyed the US version a bit more than the original, mostly because, as good as Noomi Rapace is, Rooney Mara's performance was even more amazing.
