I'm a bit skeptical but it sounds like a lot of other people like this idea as well. They've already surpassed their $950,000 goal and have raised nearly $4.3 million...

I think as long as they can keep the price around $100 or less it might be worth picking up for teens/casual gamers as long as there are "free" versions of the games like on the current android marketplace or if they have a cross platform version of the game that include Android, PC, and Mac. I also really like that it's open source.

It's still an amazing thing to create though. A lot of game developers can't afford the xbox/playstation/nintendo "top-secret" kits that it takes to create a game. It will be more accessible and the games can be anything these people think up without bending to government rules. A friend mentioned how left4dead wasn't available in some countries or that it was modified to be able to be sold there. They don't have any say if its all digital download.

Think about games like steam mods, runescape, slender (my fav), and all of those indie games created on a shoe-string budget that inspired a whole new generation of gaming. It's giving power back to the gamers as well. That's why steam and pc mods are so popular. Open-source means that you can modify and make it your own without fear of microsoft or sony bringing down the legal hammer. Smaller game developing companies can't afford to create games for a console now the market has been monopolized by the big 3. They might have ideas that will revolutionize the gaming industry but they aren't given the chance to compete.

Fuck microsoft and sony. I give them everything I have to just play a little dlc and they turn around and disable online multiplayer for used games. I have spent years and thousands of dollars and I'm feeling like a sucker. I'm talking 4 red rings, a currently failing disc reader and hundreds of games that were pre-ordered at full price only to be traded for 2 bucks. If thats not blatent abuse of a loyal consumer I don't know what is. If they were computers instead of consoles they would be in the bargain bin with the acers.

The Ouya will probably become the 4chan of the platforms from the xrated content and evil anons mucking about so it wouldn't be something santa would bring the kids but this can honestly crack open an almost untapped market.

I'm very eager to get a hands-on look or even a peak at some of the engines people are working on for it. I'm excited for the possibilities and in pre-mourning for my social life.

To be honest, as a games platform running android I have no interest in it, but if they or NVidia actually provided some real working accelerated video drivers for linux this would make a great piece of hardware for XBMC/VDR use.

I already have a Tegra2 desktop machine which was meant to fill that purpose, unfortunately between NVidias broken hardware and their total lack of linux drivers it's nothing but a very small, silent door stop :(

As a gaming device it becomes a Nintendo also ran with a standard game pad. Most of the Android games I've actually played for longer than it took to install them worked because of the touch screen interface and the casual game play style. The FPS/Racers with the tilt control or on-screen joypad are just poor and if I want them on a big screen then I'll use my PS3 not a Tegra3 based device.

Between the Raspberry Pi, the Cotton Candy and the 3rd device I can't remember there are already 3 machines capable of doing everything this box can. The problem as usual is driver support and a promise of features working in the future when the drivers are ready, while releasing a device which isn't fully working while people will throw money at it.

If Google ever get their act together with the Google TV devices, then I can see this also becoming an also ran product. I bet the next Google TV device will have a control pad available.
I also have more confidence that the Apple Ios TV will hit the market and work before this does. Android has been losing developers to Apple, purely because the costs developing for and supporting the Apple devices are lower than for the Android devices.
