Who came up with the term "Ninja" tip? Any veterans here know?

(When I first started watching MFC, I thought "Ninja" was just the name of a certain member who always hid their tips. :))

I too would like some insight about this. As a member, we can only tip as ourselves or annonymously.

When I asked some models, they see same, never ninja.

Why is it called a ninja tip?

You can tip publicly, anonymously, or "Ninja"! Ninja is an affectionate slang term for a member who tips and selects the option to hide the tip from the room. This means that only the model sees the tip and the room does not. Depending what the member selects the model can see their name OR they can make it an anonymous ninja tip.

A model would not see the word ninja or anything, it's just a slang term used by members or models.

Similarly, many members and models will call anonymous tippers "Anony Moose" or even "Nonny Moose" just as a cute nickname. :-D

Both seem pretty intuitive! I can easily see randomly saying either of those without any prior knowledge of the nicknames! It's pretty cool though how they become widespread and everything, I love how things are shared in our community!

Ninjas are known for their covert ops, stealth, etc. Hence, a person who tips a model without being seen by anyone but the model earned the nickname.

I always think it's really cute when someone sends a ninja tip and you say "thanks so much ninja!" and then they are PM you and are like "noooo THAT WAS ME not ninja!!!" It's really sweet.

My favorite is how many people have changed their user names to have the word "ninja" in the title.
They seem to always have a comment shortly after a Ninja tip, lol.
Clever way to look like a big tipper without spending. I saw in one room the other day where a new fellow was complimenting the member in the room with the name "Ninja" in their username for tipping so many different girls around the site rofl. They did nothing to dispel this of course.

Ok so I'm still a total noob somehow (it's been like 5 months, my my my) but I was wondering if, say you have the (tip not shown in room) message come up... Does THAT make someone "ninja" or is it just if they are completely anonymous?

I think I've been looking like a total dork trying to figure this one out... and I hope I'm not blasting members who would rather not be recognized in the room for tipping (don't know if anyone has this feeling but nonetheless).

Yep, "tip not shown in room" (grey tips) are "ninjas". As a model you will see the username (unless it was also anonymous) but the room will see neither the username or the tip itself, although they may hear the tip noise if you have that enabled.

Thank you... I always wondered that.

Also- just thought of this. Is it even bad manners to announce someone's name that has not posted in the room?

I would say it's not proper etiquette. If the tipper wanted the room to know who they were, they would have tipped publically in the room. :thumbleft:

I'll admit, I've done it a few times though lol...

It's generally considered proper etiquette to not announce their name. However, most may not mind as it really depends on the motivation for ninja tipping. Almost all of my tips are "ninja" tips for two reasons: #1 - some guys get very possessive, jealous, territorial over cam models (shocker, right? lol) so I usually prefer to keep the amounts of my tips private between myself and the model. Then I don't have to deal with some weird guy getting all bent of shape because I tipped his favorite model more than he did or can. So I don't mind if my name gets mentioned by the model...more interested in keeping the amounts private. #2 - other models will sometimes stake out a model's room and PM or MFC mail guys who give her big tips. So the ninja tips also avoid having to deal with that.

But I love getting those MFCmails and PM messages. It lets me know which models to block and NEVER go in to their rooms :twocents-02cents:

Basically if you get a ninja tip it's not cool to say the member's name. Just assume they had a reason for the ninja tip.

I've ninja tipped before on accident, so it's not always the case that they don't want to be recognized, but better to assume that they don't.

I ninja tip regularly. For some of the same reasons already mentioned. I'll also ninja tip to let the model know that this is a "just because" tip and she can use her discretion as to whether or not it counts in the countdown. Some do, some don't.
