Rune Factory 2 help - DS

Ok, I know Rune Factory 2 is a really old game and there's Rune Factory 4 on the 3DS now, but I don't have one of those fancy things. Yet.

So I started playing Rune Factory 2 again and I can't for the life of me remember/figure out how to place things in the chest outside my farm. Does anyone know? I Googled but couldn't find anything say how, just that you can. I end up traipsing into town and selling to the store.

Also, should I hang on to some of these metal ores? Can I make weapons or something with them later? I've been selling them but not sure if I should keep them or what.

In order to put items in the shipping box you need to select them - L+A to bring up the items you can ship, then use left and right to get to the item you wish to ship and then press A to select this item.

You will now be holding this item in your hands above your head. Make sure you are next to the shipping box and facing it and press A again to throw the item into the box and that's it. Rosetta will come and collect items between 5 and 6.
